Kashoutei Hanaya

5 star service starting from JR Noboribetsu. A great onsen and a lovely hotel with extreme attention to every detail. And the food, I am speechless. Pay for any meals they offer you and you won’t regret it.

I love the quiet (I was on a heal and reset vacation) and Hanaya is located away from where the bulk of tourist area. I truly love the garden - a view that I always looking for as an added bonus. The staff, hospitality, onsen and breakfast (I didn't book dinner) are excellent. I will come to Hanaya again if and when I am at Noboribetsu in the future.

A note: I didn't ask if there is any but there seems to be no coin laundromat on premise. There might be an option for the service especially if the need arise to wash some laundry.

Sitting in the steaming mineral water while looking out at the landscape felt almost unreal. The water was perfectly maintained! It was quiet, never crowded, and deeply restorative. What truly elevated the experience, though, was the food. Dinner was a beautifully presented multi-course meal, with each dish showcasing seasonal ingredients and incredible attention to detail. Every course felt intentional, balanced, and memorable. Breakfast was just as impressive, equally refined, and a perfect way to start the day. The service matched the quality of the setting and the cuisine. Staff were warm, attentive, and incredibly professional without ever feeling intrusive. They anticipated needs effortlessly and made the entire stay feel seamless and personal. Overall, it was one of those rare experiences where everything comes together perfectly: the setting, the baths, the food, and the hospitality. I left feeling completely refreshed and already thinking about when I could return.

We loved using the onsen, particularly the alfresco one! The food delivered to our room was delicious, plentiful & beautifully presented. There was free beer & sake (till it ran out) in the reception area, which the signs encourage you to take back to your room. We sat quietly in the downstairs seating area, with alcohol, without being asked to go back to our room.

The room service was disappointing. I understood Ryokans were all about traditional Japanese service, yet on our first night, we were told we'd need to clear away our bedding ourselves in the morning. We were told to move the mattresses & bedding to the corner of the room, where they remained all day. I thought the staff would put it all away after we had gone out for the day. On the second evening, after we had finished our meal, we phoned reception as requested, then went downstairs to write up our travel diary. When we returned to our room, the dessert plates were still on the table & due to the language barrier & tiredness, we ended up moving the table & chairs to the side of the room ourselves & pulling the mattresses & bedding back out. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this inn & feel it is not good value for money.
