What I liked most was how unpretentious and genuine the place felt. Excellent Choice for a Short Getaway

I booked a last-minute trip and Gold Apartments was exactly what I needed. Close to the beach, easy to reach from the airport, and with plenty of shops around. Great pool, breakfast on the beach, best view

We stayed 3 nights at Gold Apartment and immediately regretted not booking more nights! The location is absolutely perfect — direct access to the beach (literally a few steps away!) and surrounded by shops, restaurants, bars, supermarkets, and tour companies. The pool was large and beautiful, our kids loved playing there. The room was spacious, with A/C (we didn’t even need it in October) and a big balcony overlooking the sea and pool — the sunrise and sunset views with orange and purple skies were just magical. The bathroom had a bathtub, which was super practical with small kids. The kitchen was quite minimal, but it worked fine for short stays. The breakfast by the beach bar was simply amazing — I honestly don’t understand why anyone complains about it! We had more than enough food, freshly prepared each morning: coffee, juice, toasted bread with butter and jam, chunks of feta with olive oil, olives, tomatoes, fried eggs or Greek omelette, club sandwich… and more! Delicious and generous — and you can enjoy it right on the beach! Overall, an excellent stay with great memories — we’d love to come back for longer next time!

The only downside was the breakfast time — starting at 8:30 am felt a bit late for us since our kids are early birds (already up at 6:30 🙃). Also: the kitchen could have been equipped a bit better: we had only one wine glass.

FRAUD! STAY CLEAR

NOTHING!!!

Stay absolutely clear of the GOLD APARTMENTS in Platanes!!!! Booked it and arrived to be told there was no availability and that booking.com was wrong. Asked me to cancel and they would refund me. This was yesterday morning and the booking is still active and I’m now being told to rate my stay!! Opened a claim with booking.com but I would steer clear of this hotel, robbing customers and ignoring messages!! We stayed there for 30 minutes when she apparently cancelled the booking but this was a lie!

The room was spacious, nicely renovated, with a large and very comfortable bed. The bathroom was big and the shower convenient. The staff were great: the manager was responsive, and the cleaning lady was super nice and friendly. The apartments are located right by the sea, which is very convenient, with good infrastructure around and a beautiful beach. On the beach, two sunbeds and an umbrella cost €10. The pool was large and clean. Nearby there is Mirela’s Taverna, which we really enjoyed. The apartments also have their own beach restaurant, although we didn’t have the chance to try it.

There was no reception. In the shower, they didn’t provide shower gel or shampoo, which was a surprise. Breakfast had no options — you just get what they serve, which was inconvenient. It would be nice to have at least some choice. As for drinks, only plain coffee (without sugar or milk) and peach juice were offered. This part could definitely be improved. The room itself was great, but it wasn’t with a sea view as indicated on Booking. However, it wasn’t a big issue for us since the room was very good.

Generally a good stay.

Lovely clean spacious suite. Very good pool and plenty of sun beds to go round even though the area was open to the general public as well as guests. Close to some very good restaurants, supermarkets and shops although on a busy main road.

Check in a bit chaotic on arrival. Restaurant service also a bit hit and miss although we only used it once.

Unfortunately, not something we'd choose to repeat

The apartment was ideally situated close to the beach, with easy access. A supermarket was just around the corner, and the bus stop for trips to Rethymno was also nearby. shops and restaurants were also in the neighborhood.

The swimming pool located within the complex is a public facility and not part of the apartment itself, contrary to what was claimed in the advertisement. Swimming lessons were held there for locals, making it very crowded during the day and evening. The same applies to the sunbeds on the beach. Breakfast was very basic—we had expected much more variety. The sea view was also quite limited, as a large plant was growing directly in front of our balcony, obstructing the view.

Overrated

The room is large and clean.

As a customer, you are not welcomed in this hôtel. In fact, there is no lobby. No one to greet you or give you information if you arrive before 11 a.m. You have to walk around the building, then around the pool, then ask at the bar, where they tell you to sit down and let you wait. We ended up asking for information, and that's when we understood that we had to wait until 11 a.m. At 11, the person who seems to be the owner/manager told us that the room wouldn’t be ready before 1 p.m. (which is okay, but we would have preferred to know right away). The coffee is expensive (€4 when you can find it for €2.60 or €3 elsewhere), the sunbed are not free even for guests (and cost 10€ when you can find some for 8€ elsewhere), and when we expressed our surprise, the same manager replied, “I want your millions.” At least it’s clear. The food is bad, the order was taken by a child (which can be fun, but his English is that of a child, so let’s just say he doesn’t understand much), and the service was done by the same child, who asked us to pay even though we hadn't finished our meal yet. As for the pool, expect music all day long, with only one 80s remix album or bad rap played on loop, and one of the speakers crackles—though apparently, no one thought to change or unplug it. The view from the room… It’s just over the balcony of the hotel next door (which looks great… we recommend it instead). And the AC doesn’t work really well. The hotel’s facade is not finished: there are still visible metal structures. There’s a shopping cart blocking the entrance to the building.

The location and quality are excellent for an affordable price.

The location is excellent—situated next to the beach and near a street with shops and restaurants. The sea-view studio is spacious and offers a great view of both the pool and the sea. The beds are very comfortable.

The pool is public; every afternoon, it becomes overcrowded with local children and teenagers and therefore becomes dirty. Breakfast is quite simple: every day, the same toast with jam is served, along with another dish (omelet, salad, or club sandwich). The beach bar is of average quality but is significantly more expensive compared to others nearby.

Super nice staying in the Gold Apartments

The overall location is nice. The restaurant was superb. Optimum quality for a good price. The breakfast was even better. Also because having breakfast in the beach is absolutely fantastic. And last but not least, the staff. Starting from Giorgia, going to all the people (young and less young)…. Absolutely nice. We all felt to stay with friends. Great people.

The first impression. The entrance from the main road is not clear and the parking area must be improved. The building is clearly not finished. Common parts inside the building can also be improved. Then the room was big and clean, with a wonderful terrace and a wonderful view (we were in the second floor… I believe the best).

Would have been worth if the room cost half the price

The room was big

The building where the rooms were located was still under construction. There was no reception. We happened to find the owner after roaming around a bit. We were never asked for our IDs. The room needs a touch-up, especially the bathroom. The plug which was used by the fridge is an electrical hazard, especially if someone has young kids. The air condition was not sufficient for the room. It took 4-5 hours until we started feeling a bit cool. The A/C was running during this time at full power No Wi-Fi reception in our room. On our last day in the morning, we noticed that the swimming pool was extremely dirty. Not sure about the rest of the days. There were no options for the breakfast, they only served eggs, some bread with butter and marmelade and coffee. We asked for tea, and they only had green tea, no black tea

Did not meet my expectations

Good location, comfortable bed, friendly staff.

The building appears to be only partially finished, with no proper reception and no staff available at night. On our last night, we experienced a power cut at midnight. I reached out via Booking.com and WhatsApp (as listed), but received no response at all. We had to sleep through a very hot night without air conditioning. The entrance to our “deluxe garden view” room was through a dark, unlit corridor accessed via the car park. The advertised garden view was just a few plants along a fence, and our balcony faced a walkway between the car park and the pool—not what I expected at all. Relaxing by the pool was impossible—the pool is open to the public and was overcrowded, with at least 30 children playing loudly. Overall, this stay did not meet expectations, and many details were misrepresented.

No frills but the place grows on you and the price is right.

When we first got to the apartment, we were not super impressed. But at the same time, the price was right. The room was cleaned everyday, the bar staff, cleaning lady and owner, Georgia, were great. The pool is warm and the music was at a decent volume. I would recommend this place for families. There are tons of kids around which was ok because we had our 5 year old with us. But in general, I would not recommend it if you want a quiet, non-kid experience. Also, the WiFi works well (re: see previous comments).

We were fine with almost everything but annoyed about having to pay for the sun beds when we were hotel guests. I would recommend contacting them before booking and establishing which room you want before booking to ensure that you get the right sized room as some are really small and don’t have a sea view. We went at the end of May but I suspect that from June on, there might be limited availability. We had a great time!

Nice location, difficult and greedy host

Location and view are nice.

There is no reception. We went all the way back to find all personnel working outside painting, cleaning the pool/bar/restaurant area. Smell of fresh paint everywhere, inside and outside, couldn't even open any windows upon arrival. The next day as works continued we have decided to change accomodation. The host claimed we are unreasonable, no refund will be possible whatsoever and all works will be finished "latest tomorrow" (by that time 30% of our vacation would be gone) and that all of this was disclosed on the booking.com site and the price was lower because of this. The note the host was referring to is this: "Please note that the pool will open 1st of may." I find it sad that the host wouldnt accept that they ruined 2 days of our holidays and agree to a peaceful refund (I even offered an extra night, because we didn't "check out" on time) in which case i wouldn't have left a negative review. Instead she has decided to marks us as "No show" (which also disables leaving a review) and forcing me to arbitration thru booking.com. I hope you will have a nice season Golden Apartments, but your first review will be this one.
