Our host, Athina, was there to meet us and show us around. Treats awaiting in the fridge (bread/milk/fresh fruit/butter/jam..) and a bottle of wine and a jug of ouzo!! She noticed that my 83 year old father was struggling up the stairs so 2 days later a hand rail was installed!! We saw Athina every day and she is a delight - brought us fresh fruit from her husband's garden and was on hand if we had any issues - which we didn't at all.
Apartment was clean and welcoming and as advertised. Aircon in all the rooms. Upper mezzanine rooms had steep staircases (we didn't use these rooms) but would have been fine had we needed them.
The beach is so close - literally off the edge of the patio!!! Beach was quiet (the main beach is past the main town) and the sea was very warm. Patio had plenty of sun loungers and a table and chairs for each apartment. There was lots of shade in the morning and early afternoon until the sun swang round to the front and set over the hills to the west. The pool at the back is really nicely laid out with plenty of seating/loungers and has a nice amount of shade in the afternoon.
The location is on the road out of Rethymno to the west - a short walk to some local tavernas (very good local tavernas I might add!) and a 15m walk to the Old Town and on to the harbour front and then the main beach sweep. There are many many tavernas, bars and shops - and it was busy but it didn't feel overcrowded.
There is a small convenience right next to the apartments and a larger supermarket (with free underground parking) a 2 minute drive away and a green grocers/convenience store opposite (which is open on a Sunday - the supermarket isn't).
All in all it is a wonderful place to visit - both the apartment and the location - we loved being nestled away from the main drag on what seemed our own private beach! I would recommend to anyone.
We didn't like that we had to come home eventually!!!

We loved our stay at the Volakas Beachfront Suites. Our host, the owner, Athina met us on arrival and made us feel really welcome. In addition, we were greeted with a very generous welcome pack which kicked off our stay wonderfully. The suites are in a great location with easy access to local excellent tavernas ranging from budget meals to high quality dining. The delightful Rethymnon Old Town is a reasonably easy 15-20 stroll with access to a wide range of bars, restaurants and shops in a web of very attractive narrow car-free streets. The location was peaceful and very quiet at night other than the sound of the waves breaking on the shore literally a stone's throw away. We loved our stay and Athina was the perfect hostess.
The four suites that make up the whole property are in very close proximity and the shared space outside is a little tight, but our fellow guests were all very pleasant.

The villa was fantastic! Waking up to the sound of the sea was unforgettable. Athina, the owner, went above and beyond to make our stay special—she brought us fresh fruit from her garden and even baked us a cake. When one of our group needed to stay an extra day and the villa was already booked, she kindly helped arrange a nearby hotel. The location, cleanliness, and Athina’s exceptional hospitality made this stay truly perfect. Highly recommend!

The hostess was lovely! She brought Fresh fruit from her garden and checked in on us. The location is great between old town and nice restaurants.
Overall the house needs updating. The description isn’t correct. There is only 1 full bathroom with shower. Not enough for a family of 5. The doors on the bathrooms do not offer enough privacy. The 3rd and 4th beds are in a loft above the bedrooms which is up steep stairs.
