Location was excellent, hotel met our expectations, did not use restaurant/ breakfast, discount for carpark was great

Bed was really comfy, great location, staff really friendly and nice. Everything thing was clean and tidy.
A bit slow with refreshing the hot food breakfast, although food was good just wasn't amazing.
I did love that there was a lot options though and plenty of fresh juice.

Comfortable bed, clean quiet room. And a pleasant bar to relax at the end of the day. The central location made it easy to find.
Worth taking the lift up to reception on arrival.

Location was excellent - central and close to every main attraction
Breakfast - we didnt take up that option as it was about £16pp per night
The room was large and comfortable
The reception smelt very damp

Location central & 5 mins walk from train station
Steps outside of hotel are very slippy & dangerous! No attempt to mop up rain. Steps do not have grip strip.
Do not eat there - hygiene rating of 4!
Weatherspoons 2 mins walk & half the price!

The hotel is in a perfect position to explore Cardiff. We would certainly book again.

Location was great. Room was good.
No fridge.
Wasn't told in advance it was nsp carpark. Did get 50% off with code from reception though. About £15 for 1600 to midday..
At breakfast coffee machines playing up no bacon or mushrooms. Staff slow to keep food topped up. What was there was good.

The location is the only good thing
The property was dated wallpaper peeling the hygiene poor they manually took all my card details before I was allowed to check in forcing me to cancel my bank card because they were so weird I can’t trust them. The bedroom floor was sticky gum the shower door wouldn’t close and the room hot and noisy. AVOID- staff not interested

Lovely location. Staff were great. Hotel was clean and tidy. Will book again.

Happy with the parking arrangement, professional staff on duty, location and price. Will definetely visit again.
However , with previous experience in working in a hotel, the cleaning staff can do better. Laminate floors are ok but any way to keep the bed stable as it appears moves because of the smooth floor.

Nice clean rooms, staff are welcoming and the location is great for all the amenities.
7.0 / 10.0
Spacious rooms perfectly located in the city centre. Good discount on parking at the NCP Westgate Street.
The bedroom floors were squeaky and felt sticky. The showers were over a bath which was difficult to access for the elderly member of our party.

I didn’t have breakfast but it sounded like good value for money and the breakfast room looked lovely.
The entrance to the hotel is underwhelming. When you come in from St Mary’s Street it doesn’t reflect how lovely the reception area is. Signage for the hotel outside could be better.

Convenient location and hotel was fine in mNy aspects
As the reception is on the second floor the entrance is not as welcoming as it could be.But not sure how that could be changed?

I liked the room size I booked a twin. The decor was nice throughout the hotel&the hotel was very close to the station& very clean. The security of entering the building at night was excellent. Good choice at breakfast although some black pudding wouldve been nice& poached eggs. Staff were happy to answer any questions asked.Check in was easy& check out.Food is available & more like typical bar food menu although we did not try it to comment.Very conveniently located & close to town & surprisingly quiet considering its by the busy street.Staff looked smart.
No bottles of water in the bedroom & kettle& mugs etc were kept in the wardrobe plugged in,would be better on the side in the room. The shower was not the best & too high to change its position unless you are tall,i had to climb on the bath to do it, it had a strange shower head something id never seen before in a hotel but it was very clean. I don't like the entrance to the hotel you have to walk in and use stairs or the lift to get to reception as a bar is underneath the hotel. Not the best hotel if you was disabled although there is a back door that brings you straight near the lift so no need to use stairs. The front of the hotel in the street with all the bars has steps which are steep( only around 5 or 6 steps) these are lethal when wet!! There was a small sign saying wet floor at the top on the landing that was the wrong way round when coming out of the building& was not easily visable but the steps were so slippery due to the rain& material they are made from the sign (if you did see it ) wouldve made no difference. 2 people including me slipped& fell down them all so use the rails& still be extremely cautious when leaving from this exit especially if its been raining.Hotel staff were not interested that id fallen when I told them & said sorry about that, another staff member& collegue joked about them & said theyd fallen down them before.I wasn't asked if I was ok at reception or anything despite me saying I had really hurt myself! I had to ask for the manager& request it was put in their accident book, same happened to the other person they only insisted it was put in the accident book when they over heard me saying I'd fallen to the manager ( they'd fallen 2 days before me)they also said staff were not interested at the time! This ruined my last morning & a good stay as I was unable to walk far due to the pain.

The location is unbeatable, it's smack dab in the middle of the main street of Cardiff and so much is within walking distance, I don't think there's a hotel as well located as this one in the city.
The staff was very, very friendly, nice and welcoming.
The hotel's building is beautiful and well maintained and the hallways always smelled very nice, although it could use a bit of an update.
The hotel felt a bit old-fashioned and antiquated. The room's floor, cabinets and wardrobe weren't very clean, there was dust and hairs, which wasn't great, not huge amounts but enough to make you feel less than comfortable there. The wifi in the room was extremely hit or miss, sometimes it just wouldn't work at all for the longest time or the connection would be very weak, also the TV, in a lot of channels would just be stuttering all the time which would make watching anything there impossible. The heating also didn't work very well.
The bath didn't really have a proper curtain or, like, barrier for the water to not come out while you're showering, it only had a small glass pane that barely covered half of it so it was quite hard to not flood the bathroom floor.

- Great location, next to Cardiff Castle and Train Station.
- Large bathtub.
- Delicious croissants. Breakfast in general is quite good. with good fruit, pastries and yoghurts.
- Comfortable bed.
- Dressing room.
- The Wi-FI is quite mediocre.
- No plug in the bathroom, must dry your hair in the dressing room or charge the electric toothbrush in the room.
- Some members of staff are a bit cold and unhelpful sometimes. There was an unfortunate incident when ordering a taxi; I would avoid it.
- The building itself is pretty weird, with many stairs.
- In my opinion, it got too expensive, probably due to an event in the town.

Location was perfect. Breakfast was great. Staff were all very friendly.
The lift to reception was out of order so 47 steps and bags weren't ideal, however everyone was very apologetic and we survived.

Lower lift didn't work
The floors in 703 was very noisy with movement.
I could also hear the room next door 702 floor was very noisy. Could also hear the TV

Lift didn’t work & travelling with someone who was 4 weeks post knee surgery and being informed a day before travel was a bit ridiculous

Very friendly staff, excellent location, on the pedestrian street, a few meters from the castle, perfect if you go for a game in the principality stadium because it is two blocks away.
THE LIFT DOES NOT WORK and we had to climb 3 flights of stairs with 3 suitcases of 25kg each! A torture. . There is no staff to help you with the luggage. The floor of the room is completely sticky, if you don’t plan to go out at night, don’t stay here because you can hear all the noise and music from all the bars below.

I really enjoyed my stay. The building is beautiful and well looked after. As soon as I walked in, I felt it was a warm and friendly place. The staff were fantastic, very friendly and willing to advise on places to visit. I special mention to, I think its Alex (the gentleman with his hair tied back), for pooring drinks out in the bar, which was a nice and peaceful place to relax. The breakfast was yummy. And room was so clean and comfortable I struggled to get out of bed, and had a really comfortable nights sleep. Really happy with my visit and will definitely rebook on my next visit.
There was nothing I didn't like....my stay was fantastic.

The staff were very friendly and really sweet, letting us chill for a bit before checking in with tea and coffee. Really needed after that drive from Plymouth! The room was amazing too.
Can’t fault it at all.

The location
The room was extremely hot, couldn't open windows, air-conditioning not cool enough. Shower was poor and tiles were extremely slippery when wet.
No water provided in bottles, usually standard in most hotels.
No plugs by side of bed to charge phone.
Room felt pokey. Couldn't wait to check out

The location was very good and the staff were friendly and helpful.
I found the bed too soft, but that's just a personal preference.

Location was great if Central Cardiff is where you want to stay. The hotel was very clean. Breakfast was OK.
The hotel felt more like a Travelodge than a grand or royal hotel. Lots of little things made the experience less impressive than it could have been. First, the reception is 4 flights of stairs from the ground floor. There is a lift but you have to go down stairs to get this - weird. Reception did not feel like a 'Royal' hotel at all. More like a small office. They were going for boutique in the style of furniture, but the decor is mostly characterless travelodge. The age of the TV in the room (~15 years) was a giveaway to the age and style of the room. I've stayed in enough hotels to put this at a 3 star.

Location great
On arrival said I had no booking until I showed my reference. Then as I arrived late morning said £4 for luggage storage before 12pm room 3pm ready, I’ve been before and know they are not flexible at all for any earlier. Hotel picked for price and close to station and shops etc.
This luggage charge seems an insult.
Room given had no view, also could hear cupboards draws from next door. No biscuits with the drinks on offer, just seemed basic.

If you’re a party person, this is the perfect location. The hotel is bang on the most alive street in Cardiff- pubs, restaurants and bars.
The breakfast is excellent- plenty of choice and a flavourful selection of food.
The whole place has a run down look. Maintenance is poor, spider webs here and there and old shabby curtains. Carpets are old and shabby too. The hotel is more than a 100 years old so probably needs more care. The decor is dry and dull… needs more colour and life. The room needs better thought through and modern storage space.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and had everything we needed, basic but good. The location was superb, right in the middle of the highstreet...we loved it. I would totally recommend having the breakfast included, it had so many options, the fry up was delicious, pastries, fruit, continental ham, cheese..tea, coffee and juices. Absolutely wonderful. The room was very attractive with all the tables set nicely in a stunning period room.
We didnt find any faults in our stay.

Nothing really.
Smelly hallways.
Not accessible: if you need to use the lift from the main entrance, you have to go up some stairs and down to the basement (accessible from back entrance) in order to go up.
Room had water damage one doors even with their most premium rooms. The ones we travelled with barely had any windows and their experience was that of a prison.
NOT a four star hotel.
