Not to be repeated.

Location. Easy for sight seeing, close to public transport links. Lovely part of the country. Moved us into the 2nd bedroom, with heating. Changed to first floor because of mobility issues.

The water leaking onto my bed from the room above. 112 .Taped up cracked window in the first bedroom. Decor very tired, damp in the 2nd bedroom, 105 wall paper under window hanging off . Staff need more training. Imo. Maintenance of property needs more attention.

Comfortable bed. Television worked. That was about all on the plus side .

On arrival we went to the bar/reception to check in . Told to fill in a form and the member of staff disappeared never to be seen again . The only remaining person , the barmaid , who had not got a clue , rummaged in a cup and gave us a key on a broken fob . Managed to find the room - and what a disappointment . Our expectations had not been high but we did expect a bit more . It looked like it had been furnished from a reclaimation store . The furniture was tatty , the cheap curtains did not fit the window, the bathroom sink was cracked , there was no headboard so the paint had worn off the wall and you could see the patterned wallpaper underneath. They had made an effort and put a tiny framed picture on the wall to make it look cosy . There was also a nice new plastic tray for the tea things . Sorry New Inn - we will not be returning.

Central location. Very old, quirky place.

No car park. Very old inn so obviously facilities weren't great. You practically need a degree in hydrodynamics to flush the toilet. Uneven floors and steep stairs.

Avoid and book elsewhere

Checking out

We stayed in the sister hotel for one night and experienced the room overrun with flies. We were moved to another room and stayed at the New Inn for the next two nights. Never again, the smell throughout was vile, no air conditioning in the rooms, extremely uncomfortable beds with lumpy pillows. A complete waste of money and I would definitely not recommend. Everyone came home exhausted with no sleep. We didn't have any food at either hotel.

An amazing hotel so full of character in the heart of the city. Rooms were excellent, beds comfortable, shower facilities a little cramped not surprisingly for such an old building. Staff really friendly and helpful.

Don't expect to get a full night's sleep if your room overlooks Northgate Street. Revellers (well, rowdy and violent drunks and druggies) shouting all sorts of obscenities into the not so early hours. Helpful if you want to revise or improve your gutter language vocabulary.

Do not be fooled by the pictures!!!

Location

It is very outdated and in a bad state of repair. I had arranged a group trip and a number of rooms were booked and not one person in a group of six had anything good to say about the rooms. There was mould and severe water stains down the walls. Poorly fitted taps made it challenging to turn them on and off. The TV screen was cracked. Due to the age of the building, the stairs are extremely steep and felt dangerous to come down them. We had drinks in the bar before we went out for the evening and ordered a bottle of wine, a full glass was poured out before realising the glass had red lipstick stain on it. When we complained, no offer was made by the staff to replace what was thrown away. It was extremely overpriced for what you get. The nightly charge should be around £30 and is not worth the £89 per room we spent. The hotel gets away with charging this amount for its location. There is no car park due to its location and the nearest car park. The hotel suggests is not a 24 hour car park, so if you leave your vehicle there you cannot gain access between 7 pm till 7 am. Do not be fooled by the pictures as it is not a fair reflection on the actual current state of repair of the rooms.

Comfortable, central location in Gloucester.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room was clean and we were very comfortable. Location was very central, which was great for us.

The room was very cold when we went in, and we used the heater to heat up the room. The windows were not double glazed. The shower was not great, we had to really pull on it before we could get it to work with any kind of power. The breakfast was decent, but the poached eggs were not cooked properly.

Characterful, with great customer service

The hotel itself is really nice and cozy, with a beautiful courtyard and and real wooden beams. Reception & bar staff, even at ungodly hours of the night and morning, were always friendly and helpful - excellent (10/10) customer service. The food was decent. I felt safe. The room was clean and spacious.

There was a gap between the window and the windowframe in my room, so it got quite chilly at night! Whilst the venue itself is nice, the nearby area feels a bit shady at night. But that may just be me.

Lovely hotel, poor service

The nostalgic appearance of the property was lovely. The history is fantastic.

The service to get booked in, ordering breakfast, and getting breakfast was incredibly slow. One person doing everything does not work. Need at least two people doing these tasks. This made us late checking out, and I had an unbelievable cherky phone call to ask why I had not checked out yet! It took over an hour to order and get breakfast, which made us late leaving.

It was pleasant, clean and friendly

location, ease of access, friendly staff. Peaceful even with a pub within it. The Knight armour was awesome too.

The room gave my girlfriend the creeps (I think it was the history rich part of it) so it was a rougher night. I slept well, but was worried for my girlfriend's mental wellbeing

Lovely comfy room, nice bed, good size room and nice bathroom.very tasty breakfast and worth the £6.50 pp per night that we added on. walking around central Gloucester, the docks , quays & the cathedral. Staff were knowledgeable & welcoming, dinner on Sunday night was exceptional.

Comfortable stay in an historic pub

It is a lovely old inn steeped in history. It is so central to Gloucester, easily within walking distance from the train station and close to the cathedral so made a wonderful base for my short visit. And the staff were very helpful too, allowing me to leave my luggage there for some time when I checked out until my bus departure time.

the bed was broken and it had a sprung mattress and the mattress topper was 2 single quilts with a sheet over the top and the mattress didn't fit the bed the pillows were unsatisfactory and the hair dryer did not work and one of the plug sockets was hanging out of the wall witch was a major hazard for my 2 year old son

Comfortable, clean and convenient

The New Inn is a grade 1 listed building in the centre of Gloucester. This must make keeping it running as a modern hotel very tricky as every change requires listed building consent. My room was clean and comfortable, the staff very friendly and helpful, and the location fantastic for Gloucester city centre. The corridors look tired and in need of sympathetic decoration.

It was perfect for a one night stay to attend a function in the city centre. I love the historic courtyard.

Perfect central location within walking distance of shops, restaurants and Quays/Docks bars. Breakfast was extra but was very good. Paid £15 for late checkout from 10am to 1pm which was appreciated. Staff were friendly enough though checking in at the bar and waiting to be served didn't give a great first impression and neither did having to provide ID to check in.

Room was pretty awful for the money - terrible furniture, dark, floor steeply sloped. View out of the window of a decaying pigeon. Shower pressure poor. Little noise protection so could easily hear people outside the room.

Medieval in more than one way

Fabulous and beautiful ancient premises, if you enjoy history. Actually unique in the UK, probably the best preserved medieval coaching inn in Britain - well worth researching the fascinating history. Very nice old world bar vibe and 80s music. Nothing modern here, but clean rooms and very pleasant to come back to. Room was wood panelled, very appropriate and cosy. The city cathedral is perhaps the most fairytale and charming of all in Britain.

Gloucester is quite a rough town with a lot of addicts, screaming and drunkness/drug use in the street, night and day. We heard plenty from our room.

Came back for more of the medieval hotel experience and it's even better second time around. We stayed in the oak suite with original panels and 4 poster bed. Quite roomy, warm without being stuffy. Lots of hot water, great 🚿 🛁. Great wifi.

I expected a bit of floor creaking as this is an olde hotel, so no problems for us. Nice to have pub and restaurant on site.

Staff were pleasant and helpful. Location perfect for work. Building appeared impressive.

The room was absolutely sub standard. I have photos to document all of the listed below. Wallpaper and paintwork damaged and unkept. I had to retune the television to get it to work. Spider webs on chandelier. Faeces left in the bowel of the toilet. Shower head/holder coverered in mold and mold that had came lose ran down my body on use. Stained divan bed circa 1980's, unsightly/uncomfortable.
