Excellent view from our upper room overlooking an extensive lawn with trees in the background and upland woodland in the far background. The main building itself very impressive from the outside and well kept public rooms downstairs, comfortably furnished. Good to use the snooker table, despite the lack of decent cues, but at least it was free to play. Breakfast had a good selction of cereal, fruit and juices to start the day.

The bedroom itself, although the furnishings were OK, the room itelf was unimpressive and the descriptor of a 'dining area and dining table' was a bit rich!. The toilet/shower was very good. Cooked breakfast would have been better if if hadn't been cooked earlier and if the staff had served that which had been ordered. We had dinner on one night; it was not cheap, it was not impressive and then to be charged £14 for a 250ml glass of Sauvignon Blanc is excessive. We also discovered later that we were charged a 'service charge' on top. This is totally unacceptable for a hotel guest, different maybe if just a casual visitor.

The property was beautiful. From the well maintained long and sweeping drive to the imposing and impressive facade. The mature gardens were neat and tidy with plenty of seas and tables to enjoy the sunset and the interior is tasteful, clean, and interesting. The dinner menu had a selection of options, and for the quality of the food was very reasonably priced. I particularly enjoyed the arancini starter and my partner was very happy with the smoked salmon. We both had the braised beef (cooked to a melting tenderness whilst retaining a deep flavour. The double room was clean and tidy as was the en-suite. We didn’t spend much time there (the cooked breakfast was really good), using it as base to explore Staithes and Robin Hood bay which are nearby. We will be back and are likely to book a second night to allow us to spend some time in the beautiful grounds. The staff were kind , thoughtful, and engaging - and are clearly very proud to work in such an amazing establishment. Very very happy !

Nice old house. Faded grandeur

A little tatty. Bathrooms need a refit and a check to see what is working or not. Bulbs replaced. Knobs on shower missing.
