Building, grounds and breakfast room
Room furniture was too small and tired. Hallway carpet was migraine inducing

I have stayed here several times and am charmed by the building and the beds are so comfortable
I suppose some things are a little old fashioned due to the age of the property but everything is so clean and comfortable i don’t find that a problem

Breakfast is all I can say was OK. But even elements of this were cold
Where do I start. I wasn't informed that the restaurant was closed at booking time due to no kitchen. The room temperature was cold with no heating available. There was only on UK plug socket in the bedroom the rest were European round pin. Worst of all the price for one night was obscene for the standard that I was confronted with. I constantly asked Booking .Com to investigate but was told the booking ws with a partner and not them. Even though the booking was on Booking.Com App. I felt leet down by the hotel but more importantly let down by Booking.Com on customer service.

Wonderful staff, friendly, attentive and efficient. Excellent evening meal.
A full length mirror in the room and a plug near the kettle would both be welcome.

Kettle lead so short that kettle had to be placed on carpet to boil it.

It’s beautiful. It’s a stunning building and for me was perfect location. Overall the staff I met were lovely and helpful. Nice to see the entrance has had a refurb. Made such a difference.
The mattresses are not comfortable. I had to move rooms as the first mattress you could literally feel the bed base. The second room was better but over all the mattresses and some of the pillows need refreshing. I do appreciate the staff promptly changing my room.
I was very sick during my stay which I alerted the staff to. I left my DND sign on the door and I sent a message via the booking.com app to let them knew I was not well and wouldn’t be coming out of my room before midday. But at 9.10am on Boxing Day I got a very loud phone call from housekeeping asking if I wanted my room cleaned. This was invasive, woke me up, forced me to talk when I had a throat infection, admitted they hadn’t been round to see if my DND was on and hadn’t checked the messages. I also wasn’t checking out of another day so it was not a call in relation to that.
When I flagged it the response I got was quite defensive and said they don’t always check messages and I should call them next time. This was neither helpful, inclusive or accessible for someone that was struggling to talk.

All staff and housekeepers were excellent. Room was very comfortable and warm enough (as it's December). All facilities to hand and shower and bath hot on demand. Breakfast and evening meal was very good but bar area a little cool. Location and grounds excellent.
Only the coolness of the bar area in the evening when dining but rectified next morning with localised heater.
Probably being just post Christmas but our evening meal for two was served in cool bar area where a large group of coated guests met each other. This could have been easily rectified by serving in alternative room or directing these guests into the large and welcoming reception are with seating and big log fire.

Great to stay if you are at an event at the hotel
Feel some of the rooms need better signs.

Breakfast was good but some fresh berries etc for the yoghurt would've been good
High areas needed a deep clean, lots of cobwebs, dusty edges n ledges, bannisters etc.

Decor was nice
On arrival the room was freezing, we are talking December weather, it would have been nice to enter a warm room. I had a disabled shower, the seat doesn’t come down, the shower head is stuck for someone who is over 6ft, I couldn’t move it and if you were sat down the water would be cold before reaching you. There was cobwebs up in the corners by the bed, where the mirror is situated so you can dry your hair, the tea tray is also there, you would end up with hair in your cup. The toilet seat did not fit the shape of the toilet and it moved when sat on, there was no toilet brush. The breakfast was passable, bacon was cooked too much, hard and crispy, I think it was reheated, beans were in a little pot which had been warmed in the microwave.

Good comfy bed. The hotel is away from busy roads and noise so the room was very quiet and perfect for a good nights sleep. Room temperature was great (it was winter) for comfort and sleeping. I had 2 evening meals which were both fantastic. Good selection of wine. I was lucky enough to get a freshly made cheesecake on my first night which is not normally on the menu... I would love to see this on the desert menu. Yum!
Good service all round and the staff treat all guests with the perfect level of professionalism and friendliness. (Even baby reindeer Christmas ornaments get well looked after in this place...)
Quite a few people seem to stay here for work (solo), besides myself. It would be nice to be able to sit at the bar for a drink - it always feels a bit more sociable than sitting alone at a table.
The breakfast service and menu was great but I think the quality on the plate didn't quite match the great evening meals. I would happily pay a little more for some butcher quality sausage/bacon/black pudding. Also a good quality barista coffee in the morning would definitely help to tick all the boxes.
Don't let this stop you staying here though - the cons seem to be comparable for most hotels.

The property is nicely set in a park style environment. The staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast from the menu was very good.
There were dusty cobwebs in the corners of our room. Also the towels were not always clean. Generally, the premises were slightly run down.

No heating in bedroom despite cold weather. Dining room in conservatory was also extremely cold

Location... but thats why we chose it!
Service was poor! Went to reception at least 3 times to find no staff. We waited an hour for our breakfast and when it arrived it was luke warm at best. Bacon was like cardboard. Toast was basically bread. Coffee from urn was cold. Waitress took our order without a word being said... not a 'good morning. How are you?' Not even a smile.
The hotel was cold 🥶
I understand there was a wedding reception, which is perfectly fine by us, but the staff should not neglect other guests!

First night stay & the room was full of ants & requested a move. Room was cleaned whilst we still occupied it, watched the domestic help at work. Poor communication with staff who left us for hours. Second room not of the same standard and smelt very musty. Had to insist on another room which was eventually found and it was of a better quality.
Poor communication with staff, they expected the domestic help to tell us we were to remain in the room after cleaning.

Lovely hotel, spacious comfortable clean rooms.
We were unlucky. There was a wedding on the night we stayed and our room was on the ground floor. The wedding party were drinking and chatting until 3am outside our window. Being summer we needed the windows open to cool the room. It was therefore very difficult to sleep.

A lovely setting, the hotel has a big staircase with stained window which is very stunning. Staff were welcoming and friendly
Food was basic for a place like this. Pillows were lumpy and hard. The room was not equipped very well for a women needing to get ready in the morning, no dressing table, not enough lighting etc. The inside of the hotel needs a bit of attention in places such as the toilets downstairs, the bathroom in the bedroom.

Lovely evening meal and staff were friendly.
Paid for a deluxe room . No sofa as advertised but a single seater arm chair . No booklet advising about the hotel and facilities . Web site says the property occupied 20 odd acres . Couldn’t find that . Temporary manger was unable to help there . Piles of black bin bags and deteriorated furniture in grounds visible. Certain areas looked dumped on and unkept. Bathroom bin stained . No mirror at dressing table . Brown stained bath grout in corners . Difficult to use the key for access . Room was huge - nicely painted but sparse . Web site mention could be some noise - but on one of our two nights was a party . The noise was so load the tea cups and spoons were vibrating on the tray in the room ! That went on past midnight . Web site deceiving - great potential but when we left there were 3 couples checking out - all complaining including us . Temporary manger was doing her best . It is a family run hotel . I will be emailing the owner with this feedback . . .

I thought the room (suite) I had was excellent. It was very clean bright and comfortable with nice touches like a small bottle of Prosecco welcome and good tea-making facilities. I slept well accepting that there was a lot of noise from a wedding which was perhaps unusual on a Tuesday night. I will check specifically next time. I found the staff Teo us and willing to help.
The bar dining room and facilities are totally geared towards wedding parties so if you stay there when a wedding is on you are very much side-lined and my guests for dinner commented that the bar looked like a canteen so we went elsewhere for dinner. Perhaps a little thought like an extra room somewhere away from the noise could be made available for non-wedding guests. The conservatory could perhaps have been used for this purpose. I would stay there again because of the room but would not use the other facilities.

Location
I was in a room that involved going up stairs to go down to the room.
No staff on reception.
Overall a bit disappointing.
