The reception check in was simple and straightforward the receptionist was pleasant and gave us all information we needed for our stay The reception area in the hotel was very pleasing on the eye and we anticipated our room would be the same...
Upon check in we were advised that our room was actually located in a different building across the main road in the former Carlton Hotel. We relocated to the Carlton, the difference was evident immediately, the reception there was never manned, the area appearance was that of a building needing refurbishment.
Our room was on the fourth floor (no lift)it was clean, absolutely no complaints about the cleaning staff who were very polite and helpful but unfortunately the bathroom required improvement, The shower area was discoloured with brown staining to the corners of glass shower screen adjoing the bath and also in the shower area of the tiling.The bathroom extractor fan did not work and the room itself was very warm (a fan was provided in the room ,but no air con) Whenever we returned to the room after being out for the day, there was a very pungent smell of sulphur.
We found the wardrobe space was limited but we managed. The bed was comfortable.
Be advised, Car parking is first come first served and is limited all other parking in the area is by permit or two hours max stay and the wardens are very vigilant !!!
Did we enjoy Jesmond? yes definitely, it is a vibrant place, a nice range of shops and bars with outside seating, and restaurants Jesmond has a nice mix of people with a village vibe. If you book a room at this hotel ignore the basic room price and consider the upgrade price as we think you will probably stay in the rooms shown on the website photos.
