The room was really big and compared to the money it’s really worth. The bed, red carpet, bath tub everything thing felt a royal feeling. They have parking facilities as well.

Great location lovely view from window

No staff. No hot water. Severely lacking in facilities. Felt like staying in a haunted house,very creepy. Outdated. In need of a deep clean and updating/refurb. Carpet worn and very dirty, bathroom dirty. My son was very upset and didn't want to stay there, neither did I but had booked tickets for the wildlife park and couldn't afford to book anywhere else. Definitely won't be back and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Didn't feel safe as main door open 24hrs, also the cctv cameras inside freaked us out abit. Have stayed in hostels for cheaper that were better.

Tranquil stay in a cozy room among the Scottish countryside.

Beautiful, perched on top of a hill with fantastic views, lots of cute little wild bunnies hopping around in the yard.

The only thing that wasn’t great was that there was construction happening on the building during the day but that’s really a non-issue since you don’t go somewhere just to stay in the room.

Poor quality residence, woefully inadequate amenities and level of service

Location and cleanlinessa

Beds lacked comfort. Insufficient number of pillows, thin and Insufficient pillows that were present. No shower gel in shower. Milk in communal coffee machine was rotten and thus was the case for more than 12 hours. Welcome pack was Insufficient to meet even basic needs, sweets were so old they had melted into each other and were disgusting. No fridge in room. No real facilities beyond kettle. Rooms were clean but drafty. Was like staying in a poor quality university halls of residence. Staff did not answer the contact number until the morning of.departure and we saw no.staff at any point during a 3 day stay.

A deeply unpleasant experience

Cost, nothing else.

Horrible atmosphere. Dark unlit track leading to hotel. Listed as pet friendly, but banned my pet from entering the room. I’d never have booked if I knew this. Check in procedure by telephone and lock box, unfriendly. Shared bathroom stank of bleach, overwhelming stench of it throughout accommodation block. Will never stay here again.

Great stay. But in need of some TLC

Great place, spacious room. Massive bathroom! Plenty of parking. Great pillows and warm bed. The tv is also a smart tv so can watch whatever. The location is also great with takeaways down the road.

The whole place does need some tlc. The rooms are a little outdated but give character however, needs a good clean. The blind in the window in the bathroom needs a wipe and underneath the sofa. The steps leading to the room also need a good sweeping.

Great location, affordable and comfortable stay

Really nice property , location is amazing , 10 min walk from co-op and chippy. Room was lovely, shutters and blinds meant you get a really dark room to sleep in which was great. Tv was a great feature too. Cereal, coffee machine, microwave and mini fridge in the breakfast room which we didn’t expect and were really useful. Heating was really good as well, we were never cold.

Great value for money and beautiful location/hotel but some hard to ignore inconveniences

Beautiful building and lovely sizeable room and bathroom. I loved having my own bath and a four poster bed. Love the classic style and the views from the room were stunning. Great quite location too away from the main road and easy to find. Really handy having a fire stick on the tv and a kettle in the room as well as different lighting options

Didn’t see any staff during the stay. Was told just the day after processing my payment that no food was available and the breakfast bar was quite sad. Also barely any dishes were available, appart from cups in the room, only bowls and cutlery were in the breakfast area. No Kitchenette or way to make your own food. Which was quite inconvenient for me. The value for money was great but it seems like a few fixes would improve the place immensely. I barely broke a bench in the garden by simply sitting. Also one of the couches in the room was covered in dog hair.

Memorable like a horror story. Only stayed one night out of 3. No cancellations accepted.

The email notification received en route to the hotel, advising that it was currently unable to offer any catering or service facilities was accurate. The totally "impersonal" check in arrangements were clear and accurate. The room/suite was clean.

There were no staff on site as far as could be determined and all attempts to speak with a real person using the contact failed. The Hotel Website Gallery showed the premises as they might have been some years ago. The grounds were untended the external paintwork was in disrepair, the room facilities minimally matched description. e.g. Coffee maker was a kettle and some coffee sachets. 2 x small pillows for a King sized bed.

The only thing I was annoyed about Was in the questions someone asked do they do breakfast? And the answer was yes a continental. . But when booking my room and getting a confirmation that everything was booked, it was stated there is no breakfast . So to be honest, I need to update the question and answers

Dreadful stay, more akin to a bothy than the hotel suggested in the listing.

We booked this on behalf of volunteers working at an event nearby. Nothing was up to the standard expected, or the expectations set by the listing. The photos do very well at hiding how run down the place was. Dirt has built up in corners, there are grease marks on the wall, wallpaper peeling off. Breakfast looked like it had sat out for months. Tried to contact owners during the stay but no answer - ended up booking somewhere else for the planned second night of the stay.

Not worth it for the money until the place has had a makeover.

Location is great for being close to the Cairngorms, self check in and check out was super easy and flexible amd it was very quiet.

For having paid 80£ for 1 night I feel like the room really didn't meet my expectations. The bedding wasn't clean and clearly needs changed, the mattresses are super old and not comfortable at all, the shower curtain and shower have seen better days as well. I would not come back here until this place has had a makeover.

Very disappointed with this property

1. My daughter and myself were on motorcycle . The path that led up to the property was loose stone with two deep channels woren out over time by vehicles going up and down the path. There is a high point in the center of the path which is very dangerous. The area in front of the building is covered in loose stone which is not Biker safe. No reception on duty. Key for ones room was dispensed on an electronic key board.. The whole property could do with a compleat makeover inside and out.. On the web site it stated that there was no breakfast but then there was a note left on a table up stairs to say that break fast was served between 7~9 . . It consists of 4 cereals coffee and tea dispenser and individual wrapped pano chock.

The mattress was very uncomfortable, we could feel and hear the springs when we moved. So we lost a lot of sleep on what was supposed to be a relaxing holiday. Reported the issue but nothing was done it during our stay.

Adequate for a stay in the Highlands, but not a hotel in any proper sense.

The room was large and comfortable--the "penthouse" upstairs at the property--and the breakfast provided was adequate.

Columba House is not a "hotel." There is no one on site, and it is beyond tedious to message the manager by email through the Booking.com site and wait for a reply. The shower in the large bath was apparently inoperable; my question about it went unanswered by the manager. The shower head in the tub was adequate, but not more than that. This is basically a self-catering facility that calls itself a hotel. Honestly, I think at least partial refund is in order.

Check which rooms you're booking, 'The Crofter' rooms are very, very basic & dated.

Communication was fine, self check in work as it was supposed to. Only slight issue there was that when my colleague used her pin to get her key from the collection safe, she got a bunch with keys from all three rooms of the 'Crofter Wing'.

We knew that the two rooms we booked were to use a shared bathroom, we didn’t know/realise it would be shared with others too. In my room, I opened the desk drawer to find the TV remote (after it turned itself on twice), I didn't find it but did find 4 red onions... the room cleaning was not sufficiently thorough. When booking, I viewed a handful of photos and all looked decent, but I didn't view all the images. Later on in the photo carousel, you will see pics of the rooms in the Crofter Wing (I've discovered this post stay), to say they're 'basic' is generous. They make a Premier Inn look posh.

A quiet and comfortable stay.

Our room was clean and bed very comfortable. For the price we were very happy and would definitely use again.

Grab and go breakfast could have been better. Further explanation of the breakfasting facilities before arrival would have been beneficial. Like the fact that there is a microwave and a small fridge available for use, and shared with other guests, which can be found in the breakfast room.

A short stay in a comfortable, unstaffed and rather anonymous motel, close to the facilities of Kingussie.

Comfortable for a short stay - we had a tent failure, so we’re in retreat from that! Lots of outside space available for drying things was very welcome. Well located for the shops and bars in Kingussie, just a 10 minute walk away. Good parking available. The telephone conversation about how to get access was helpful, and was followed up quickly with key codes by email. WiFi was fine.

It is all rather soulless, with seemingly no or few staff at, or visiting, the property, which is really a motel rather than a hotel. Between Sunday pm and Wednesday am we met just one person, a cleaner. All contact with anyone else (E.g. about how to find the keys, and with what code for the key safe) was by phone or email. Security is weak. We just had a Yale lock on the door for our room. There was a lockable outer door for our room and the adjoining ones, but no keys were available, and the instructions were not to lock it! Not very safe really, especially with no staff on site. The shower worked fine, but the temperature control was stuck, so non-variable. The link sent for checking in on line was unnecessarily complicated, and requested photos of our ID documents (!!) we aborted the process at that stage, and rang the phone number instead, which was answered quickly by a knowledgeable person.
