Perfect Christmas Holiday stay!

We had the perfect stay for our Christmas holiday! Although a 15 minute walk from town we loved the quiet and lakeside location. Our room had plenty of space with a sitting room which allowed whoever woke up earliest the freedom to be up without disturbing the later sleeper. The property is beautiful and well maintained and even offers a club room with hot drinks and water whenever needed. The breakfast was delicious and we really appreciated the efforts of the staff to accommodate my allergies and vegan lifestyle. I was not just stuck with bread and jam, but vegan "cheeses and meats" and plant based yogurt and milk. The restaurant did the same for dinner. The staff was amazing and their English is much better than our German. Don't hesitate to stay here!

Enchanting place, with a few practical limitations that are good to know beforehand

Staying at Schloss Schadau was truly a memorable experience. The hotel itself is impressive, with rich history and stunning architecture that make you feel part of something timeless. Its location is simply idyllic – right by the lake, offering breathtaking views and peaceful surroundings. The combination of elegance, comfort, and nature creates a unique atmosphere that is both relaxing and inspiring. A perfect place for anyone looking to enjoy beauty, serenity, and a touch of history.

On the practical side, there are a few things to keep in mind. The rooms are quite small, and the sink is located directly in the bedroom, which may not be convenient for everyone. Parking is not right next to the hotel – you need to walk a bit – but you can drive up to drop off your luggage first. The restaurant requires a mandatory reservation, and it’s really worth making one in advance as many guests come for the location and view. The food is rather basic, yet still tasty and satisfying.

Stunning views & Great location

The grounds are beautiful, and the view from my spacious room was absolutely stunning. I loved enjoying a glass of wine on the balcony while gazing at the Alps and Lake Thun. Breakfast was hearty, with the option to order eggs, and dinner was just as enjoyable, attentive, friendly staff and fantastic lake and mountain views. The hotel is an easy 13-minute walk to the train station (or a quick bus ride), with just a few more minutes to town. Guests also receive a helpful discount card for transportation and local attractions. The location offers easy access to Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, and other mountain areas. I loved my stay and would happily return

Magical stay in a Swiss Castle

This roof was enormous and the property was simply stunning . It was a magical stay that will live in my memory forever!! The room, balcony, and bathroom were all gorgeous. The staff was very accommodating. Breakfast was delicious.

Schloss Shadau could be your storybook vacation.

When we booked our reservation through booking.com we liked what the pictures showed, but experience has taught us to be wary. Occasionally properties do not deliver on the promise. This, however, was not the case with Schloss Shadau. They delivered on all their promises. The property was magnificent. The extensive grounds and gardens (about 10 acres) were lovingly maintained. They offer a brochure that identifies the many trees and flowers. They offer building as you might imagine is old but well maintained. Yes, the floors will creak under your feet, but that only feeds the images of the many feet that walked the same floors over the generations. Did I mention the food? You must try the food! The cream of asparagus soup with pea sorbet was extraordinary.

The castle and the surrounding parkland is owned by the City of Thun. To cover the cost of maintaining the property ( and it is spotlessly maintained) they host lots and lots of weddings. The wedding guests, as you might imagine, can get carried away with their celebration.

Quite expensive but worth it

The location was spot on and the lady on reception took her time to show us about and also helped with our bags

No air con, although had a Dyson fan that helped. The bathroom was a bit dated. The lady on reception who showed us about told me I was too quick when asking for our food and drinks.. but we were tired and wanting to get to bed (and were hungry)…. But didn’t appreciate being told we were impatient clearly after travelling all day to get there. Also no availability of onsite parking which was our fault for not pre booking

I wouldn't have been as happy in any other hotel.

The location is amazing. The fact that we had the panorama pass for free bus rides was perfect for the location. Being able to start the day with hot breakfast and a glass of Prosecco was wonderful. The staff were all very kind and helpful. Overall, we had a great stay at a great hotel.

Beautiful property in a stunning location directly on the lake. The quality of the food is excellent, and dinner on the terrace is particularly enjoyable. Most members of staff are very helpful and friendly.

At breakfast some members of staff seemed overwhelmed. The buffet should be larger and offer more options, which would help solve this challenge.

perfect for instagram but actual experience not so good

the castle is located very far from the city and there is nothing near it. the exterior and public areas are impressive and perfect for instagram photos. we had a room with very nice views.

all rooms don't have any refrigerators. we did not meet the friendly staff. we didn't eat their expensive dinner. most disturbing - from early afternoon until dark all the park in front of the castle is full of many people in swimsuits and blankets making music, noise and even bbq. (all the area is public and it is not the fault of the hotel) - but instead to feel like in an elegant chateau in france you feel like being straight at the beach.

The bed was not 100% comfortable, and there is a strong smell in the stairs between the 1st and the 2nd floor (the stairs on the left side, not on the right side). But other than that, everything else was perfect!

Location amazing, generous rooms and front desk management could not do enough to guide us around Thun. Car parking on site,staff in restaurant friendly - breakfast and dinner top notch. ….should have stayed longer if we knew how good!

It's a Castle.

Living in Australia, we don't have castles. So the opportunity to stay in a castle was too good to pass up. Schloss Schadau did not disappoint. We were met at reception by Helen who could not have been more helpful and was also had a wealth of knowledge about the property. She personally showed us to our beautiful room which had a magnificent view of the lake and the Alps behind. If you stay here you simply MUST have dinner here as well. Again there is no escaping from the fact that you are in a castle ! The dining room(s) are luxurious and the food and the service are excellent, matching the decor. Breakfast is served in the same location. It wasn't cheap, but hey ! It's a castle. If you are able to stay one night or more here. You should do it. Unforgettable.
