A great stay and close to York Centre and car parking

The location was great.

It was so cold and I understand it’s an old Victorian property but we’ve never stayed anywhere where you have to contact the host to keep putting the heating on ? We did try and control it ourselves but it wasn’t working right. The property wasn’t spotless either. They need to look at the kitchen tap where the water comes out it was disgusting. Also some of the cutlery wasn’t clean and we had to clean them along with the kitchen sink which was grimy. Also you state in your information that the council owned car park is £20 a day. We stayed for 3 days so thought it would be £60 no it cost us £75 which is a bit steep. The small car park that you have an agreement with had no spaces so we were unable to use that one. We also feel that you need to state in your information warning people that the stairs in the property are steep and people with mobility issues would find it difficult.

Beautiful York, beautiful house, perfect stay.

Beautiful house, perfect for the 6 of us. Our grandchildren loved having their rooms on the top floor. It was spacious, exceptionally clean, great shower and big beautiful bath and very comfy beds. We only ate breakfast there but the kitchen was fully equipped if we needed to cook a meal. We couldn't have had anything better. The additional touches of all the wonderful books and games was a bonus. Communication with the owner was great aswell.

Great location and facilities

Location was excellent, and house was well equipped even though we were out most of the time. Nice to have the yard for morning coffee. Beds were comfy and communication with Alistair was excellent

It was warm when we were there so was a little warm at night even with windows open - shouldn’t be a problem in “normal weather”. It’s on quite a busy road so obviously with windows open you hear it.

The games in the “games cupboard “ all had bits missing and was a real mess , bit disappointing when we got a few of the games out and were unable to play them. It didn’t spoil our stay in any way but would recommend you take your own games if you want to play something

Great spot for families

Hosts were very helpful and eager to accommodate. Kids loved the "3 layer house" and enjoyed sleeping on the "top layer." Kitchen was well equipped for a family with young kids, including plasticware for the kids. Walking distance to city centre and to train station.

York is a gorgeous city and Spencer House is the best to stay!

Excellent location and super accommodating hosts. Will definitely return to stay at Spencer House and have told all of my friends! Beautiful property with a lovely small outside bit which soaks up the sun, lovely kitchen and lounge space. The bedrooms were great too. Allowed us to leave our bags on arrival and a check out time that worked perfectly for our group.

A truly brilliant property and a great base to explore York

We loved our stay at Spencer House. As soon as we booked, we were quickly sent lots of thorough information about the property, where we could park, and the different restaurants/bars nearby. The house was extremely well equipped, really clean and homely and all of the facilities were brilliant. The property is a short walk from York centre and so it’s the perfect base to explore. Similarly, it has its own little high street nearby with lots of shops, bars and cafes that were really great. We met Alistair as we were checking out and he was very friendly and welcoming. We stayed at Spencer House for New Year and we loved our stay and would definitely return. Thank you for a great way to start 2023!

Comfortable and well positioned base for a York visit.

Very convenient for a few shops and restaurants, as well as a short walk to the city center. It was a nice quiet neighbourhood and we sat out in the small yard in the evenings.

Perfect place & perfect location for our York trip.

The house is lovely and has been beautifully decorated. It's a nice big space for the whole family; we arrived with 4 kids, so needed the space! The beds were comfy, it would have been ideal for us had there been another twin option but I understand that's hard to do. The location was brilliant for discovering York. kids liked netflix! I loved the couch!

Stairs are very steep & there's no garden. The information everywhere was very helpful but perhaps a little too many signs everywhere made it feel less homely.
