"Great location within walking distance of lots of Lisbon’s attractions . Struggled with the elevator which didn’t work well at all. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

About this apartment rental

Summary:
Fantastically light and airy apartment in Lisbon's most trendy and sought-after neighborhood. Located on the third floor in a restored Pombal-era building with side views down to the city and lots of sun. Beautifully and carefully decorated by the owner with bespoke furniture of a luxurious standard. Just a short 10-minute walk to the waterfront and the Cais do Sodre station. Eat out or shop in the fashionable Ribeira market which is just a couple of minutes' walk from the station.

The Space:
A spacious living room has a super comfy sofa perfect for relaxing after a long day. The kitchen is cozy and suitable for a nice breakfast, café style. Beautiful wooden floors take you back in time to a romantic age. The typical high ceilings of this architecture make you feel the golden age of Portugal's past. Not to be missed!!

Guest Access:
We offer a meet and greet service on your arrival at the apartment but we can also make arrangements for keys to be collected. Get in touch with us.

The Neighborhood:
Principe Real is one of the finest neighborhoods of Lisbon boasting turn-of-the-century mansions, fashionable shops, and happening gay bars. It is very green, has lots of trees, and has some amazing shopping along the, including concept stores, art galleries, and local designer shops.
The kiosk in the center of the Principe Gardens is a famous meeting point for well-heeled Portuguese society where they will enjoy coffee together and a delicious Portuguese pastry under the umbrella of high canopied trees.
As you walk out of the building, you can choose to turn left and shortly you will be in Principe Real where you have a selection of different restaurants, bars, or kiosk cafés, there are a couple of museums but be sure to find different sight viewings over the city, one of them being the Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara.

If you decide to turn right, and adventure in between the different alleys close to the apartment you will find Bairro Alto, where you will find a couple of Fado restaurants but the highlight of this neighborhood is its authenticity. If you proceed walking down in the direction of Rio Tejo, you will be on route to Cais do Sodré where you will be able to find Mercado da Ribeiro, Rua Rosa (pink Street) and so many other great gastronomic and cultural options.

Finally, if you decide to go forward, as you walk out of the building you will head into Chiado, where you will find different little alleys leading you to different stores, and a whole new selection of restaurants, bars, and cafés. Besides this, you will find a few churches and other monuments which are hidden among the city's buildings.

Getting Around:
You will have access either to the Rato metro station, which is the yellow line (about a 15-minute walk in the direction of Principe Real), or the Baixa Chiado metro station, which is the blue line (about a 5 min walk in the direction of Cais do Sodré).

There are a couple of trams (located in strategic points of the city), the most famous one is N. 28, where you will be able to catch and feel like an authentic "alfacinha" (someone who is from Lisbon), and these will lead you to different areas within the city.

Down in Cais do Sodré (about a 15-minute walk), you may find the green metro line, the connecting train service to Cascais (45 min ride, along the coast) and you may also want to adventure onto the other side of Lisbon, crossing over the Rio Tejo by ferry boat - you will find there a lot of different restaurants known for their fish, an opportunity to see the beaches by using connecting bus services and also a different view of Lisbon.

Lisbon is smaller than you might think so you will be within walking distance of almost everything an additional fun fact is that this city is known as - "a cidade das 7 Colinas"/ "the city of the 7 hills"- so there will be a lot of ups and downs, but it all adds to Lisbon's charm and uniqueness.

First the pros: The location is fantastic. Lively, vibrant, energetic. The proximity alone to Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara, Glória - S. Pedro Alcântara, and the lively restaurants and bars of Bairro Alto make this spot perfect travelers looking to experience some of the best Lisbon has to offer. The flat itself is very spacious, and modern. Quite comfortable. Cons: No air conditioning. This was not an issue for us because we visited in late March/Early April. However, even with outside temperatures around 70f/21c we still felt the need to open windows and doors every time we entered the condo. The only issue with keeping any doors or windows open at night is that Bairro Alto is full of bars that are open late. Late meaning you can hear people in the streets till sometimes 4/5am… every night. If you are a light sleeper, and planning a trip when the weather is such that a window would need to be open, this is not the condo for you. Also it seems the building is in need of some plumbing work. Occasionally we would have to flush the toilets in order for the showers to drain properly, and there’s definitely a peculiar odor around the front bathroom. Again this seems like a building issue and not a unit issue. Ultimately we loved the unit and would rent again/recommend to friends.

First, I want to thank Tracey and Neill for letting us use their apartment. There are core things that really matter, and this space has all of those. The two bedrooms were well appointed with ample space and the beds were quite good. Not that this is a surprise, but the master bedroom is much better than the second bedroom. As we were two couples traveling together, I just wanted to note this obvious distinction. The bathrooms were functional with no major issues. The kitchen was adequately supplied with equipment. For Americans – the stove top has induction heating and we found ourselves looking through the web on how to operate it. I cannot say enough about how great this location is in terms of Lisbon geography and topology. We received many unsolicited comments from guides and taxi drivers about how fortunate we were to be in such a spot. Now to the nits – as others have said, the elevator works, but you should just count on climbing up three flights of stairs. As with all small elevators retrofitted into an old building, it has its limits. Use it for luggage and you will be fine. As stated before, this is a great location and everyone knows it. Expect loud crowds at night that will be up until 4am on the weekends. Just be prepared. Don’t expect much from the company that manages this property. We were there for 10 days and they left us about 3 day’s worth of toilet paper. Upon bringing this to their attention, we received the following email - “Our apartments are self-catering, we do supply a starter kit per bathroom and not per person. Although we leave some shampoo, hard soap, body wash, toilet paper and a few capsules for the washing and coffee machines, this is as a courtesy and during the stay if the guests need more they need to purchase these items themselves.” Then a day later they sent us an email asking if we needed anything… Later in the stay, the management company sent us an email saying someone would be stopping by to drop off an extra set of keys, could we be available at a particular time? We waited for them to show up, and they never did. Bonus tip – the neighbors upstairs offered to help us with any problems we might have. I suggest you contact them, not the management company if you need help.

It was a wonderful flat in the best of neighborhoods! The property manager could have been a bit more attentive to our check-in needs re: the lift and hall lights.
