The check in involved calling the host and following a series of laminated signs to find the keys - all of which could have been communicated via email as the signs were very hard to miss. Payment was taken through booking.com then refunded and had to pay in cash instead… Parking was awkward and required leaving car keys available in the room in case the host needed to move your car to let someone else out. This felt like an infringement on privacy and has implications for insurance. The entire hotel and room was full of more laminated signs dictating what you could and could not do. One of these was not eating in the room, which I found to be very restrictive and inappropriate. The rooms were relatively dated and the bedside lamps were so dull that they may as well have not been there at all. The rooms were freezing as the heating was hardly ever on and there were no blankets - only a thin duvet. A request for the heating to come on was ignored completely with not even an explanation for why not. This was not ideal for us after a winter walk in the lake district!
