Excellent location, layout and comfort of the house, and good local facilities such as pubs and restaurants. Also good location for walking.
There was an issue with the heating, in that the thermostat did not turn on the system, and there was no heating schedule. Now that summer is over, this does need attention as the house was quite cold on arrival. If the thermostat is not changed, there needs to be clear written instructions on hiw to use the boiler switch. Having said this, Helen and Jim were extremely helpful and willing to come to the house to sort out the problem.
As a general comment, a handbook, or written guide to the house facilities which is quite common in similar accommodation would be useful.

Location,
Nice house
The heating had to be rebooted many times while we were there the owner helped us with this twice but it wasn’t fully functioning. The house felt unused and damp when we arrived. There is no extraction fan in the kitchen so the smoke alarm was triggered. The smoke alarm in the kitchen area has been broken off which seems dangerous. The flooring in the downstairs shower room/toilet didn’t fit and there was no window or extractor fan in that room. The lights throughout the house are chandelier style and they were all covered in dust. There were at least 3 lights which the bulbs had gone and not been replaced. We bought new batteries for the heating controller and weren’t offered our money by the owner when she came to ‘fix’ the heating. No towel in the toilets. A cheap packet of biscuits were left out for us. This was a very expensive 2 night stay and we weren’t impressed by the care of the property.

The position was ideal for staying in hope. The beds were very comfortable.
Unfortunately the property had not been prepared/cleaned on our arrival. I contacted the owner who dealt with it immediately. However we then had to vacate the house for over an hour in order to allow the lady to sort it out. Which isn’t what we really wanted to do as soon as we had arrived. Fridge wasn’t very cold and didn’t get colder over the weekend.
There was no freezer compartment therefore we couldn’t have ice for drinks etc. the weather was hot too. We bought a bag of cubes from the spa shop on the first evening. Until they all melted. Non left in shop for second evening.
Crockery, Pots and pans were dirty. I know this is the fault of previous guests. The cutlery drawer was also dirty.
No hand soap in downstairs loo. We bought some.
Old/dirty washing up sponges provided. Non new available. We bought some.
Kitchen tap drips constantly.
Used paint pots under the sink
Ceiling light in bedroom not working.
No shower curtain in main bathroom so having a shower was difficult also the Shower holder didn’t stay up.
No hand soap in main bathroom.
Bathroom shelves rusty

The property is great, such a beautiful area. Shower pressure is amazing! We were there to attend a gig in Manchester with friends who live in Hope and it was well needed by the time we got back. Everything was clean, having the washer and driers was great too. Great breakfast options a few min walk away from the front door and the small village shop was also really convenient.
Only downside - the bells from the church across the road rang on the quarter hour very late into the night and started again very early, plus I think they were practicing on the Sunday morning?? So just a heads up if you're a light sleeper you might want earplugs for that.

Great location for walking in the Peaks and very handy for local pubs/restaurants.
Unfortunately we found the cottage to be quite dirty inside, particularly the kitchen, and there were a few items of disrepair e.g. the upstairs shower holder was broken which made showering difficult and there was no shower curtain so the whole bathroom ended up soaked. The booking.com page also says pets allowed but the house rules inside the cottage say strictly no pets - it's lucky that this didn't affect us because I very nearly brought my dog. Also be aware that there is a fridge but no freezer.

Excellent location for hiking the area. Near loads of options for food. Well setup kitchen, mud room. Nice decor.
Very little loo roll on arrival.

Located in the centre of the village, next to a nice pub & cafe.
Comfy bed.
It was cold downstairs despite using the log burner , they advised that guests could not change the thermostat . We were well clothed but still uncomfortable sitting on the sofas in the evening.
Small details - there was a curtain over the back door (with a wonky rail!) but not the front which has a powerful draft.
The key to the front door is tricky - we noted a screw on the inside handle was loose and at an angle - we didn’t have a Phillips head to tackle it .
Exposed rawl plugs evident beside the bath but no shower screen - one of the reasons we had chosen this property over others was because of the 2 bathrooms but couldn’t use the over the bath shower for fear of flooding !
The kitchen tap has a powerful drip - one washing up bowl full collected in 6 hours & the second sink’s drain was not connected but wasn’t noted as out of use - we could have made a real mess.
It’s an old cottage but the light switches were crazy & it took our 2 days to work out how to switch on various lights.
No coat peg but the front door so you traipse through the house with wet clothing .
No peg on the backs of the bathroom doors to hang your pyjama whilst washing.
Broken heat/ smoke alarm in the kitchen.
Bits of the pendants from a glass light shade loosely in a box up stairs on the window sill.
No accessible plugs next to the upstairs beds ( to charge the devices etc) in sight and the bed in the larger bedroom is positioned against a wall on one side and the slope of the stairs on the other- without a bedside table to stand a glass of water on .
The mini chandeliers need their cobwebs removing .
None of the ‘nice’ touches we’ve had from previous hosts not even a welcome biscuit or tea bag & given the price for the cottage out of season this felt parsimonious . Not great if you were arriving after the shop had shut & without supplies .
There’s also black mould in the corner of the downstairs shower .

Excellent location and comfortable well equipped house.
Communication prior to our stay was difficult, we needed to change the number on our booking but couldn't get any response. Also mixed instructions about pets, details on booking.com says they are allowed but other pages say not and rules left in the house say not - needs clarifying.

Good location you have to admit.
Outside 15 degree and you open the door and freezing damp cold hit you like a shovel.
The owner only switched on the heating for the last night after we complained to booking.com as she ignored the communication up to that point.
Oh yeah and we had to block her after her passive aggressive texts calling us in effect a liar claiming she can see remotely that it's 21 degree.
We could have ignored the mold in the bathroom, broken blinds, gutter or you had 30 cm between the bed and wall etc, but enough is enough.

The location was good. The beds were comfy. It was clean.
The property was very cold when my 80+ mother arrived after a long journey, the heating was off, there were no clear instructions how to turn it on and there were no logs for the fire. The owner responded quickly and came to sort out the heating and provided logs.

comfortable and (particularly bedrooms) and we enjoyed the wood burner.
insufficient hot water
heating on at apparently random times. eg 2am in the morning. why?
odd things missing. eg no teapot, very few and random (3) wineglasses
poor communication. lots of quite useful information provided but no confirmation of our notes back and despite requests no wood provided. not good enough

Excellent location for exploring and hiking in this area of the Peak District.
Cosy comfortable cottage with enough space for 3 couples. Dining room table expands nicely with extra bench for 6 people to fit round it.
Although located near the main road through Hope which can get busy/noisy, it is peaceful at night time. But I would advise shutting windows at night because the church clock chiming can be loud during the night.
Good facilities nearby for food shopping, cafés, pubs and also in Castleton which is a 30 minute walk away along nice footpath through the fields.
Key collection and drop off easy.
Parking was easy on the street outside.
No complaints but
reported a couple of minor issues to the hosts e.g. leaking tap, which hopefully they will resolve.
5.0 / 10.0
The property was overpriced overall. It was extremely cold the afternoon / evening we arrived. It was warmer from then on but the heating seemed to be on mainly in the night and upstairs. The door to the street lets a lot of cold air in and has no provision for entering with muddy boots!
Also, there was very little in the way of helpful essentials, especially kitchen/cooking items such as kitchen roll, oil, salt & pepper etc. Most places have such things as it is extremely inconvenient.

Great location! Perfect for exploring the peaks, comfortable place to stay. Helen was very responsive with queries!
Terrace and garden furniture was very muddy - could’ve done with a clean and sweep. Kitchen would be better equipped. But otherwise very lovely place and would definitely return

Excellent location. Spacious cottage, bigger than it looks in the photos. Spotlessly clean.
Easy to collect keys.
TV channels tricky to access.
Lack of heating control.
Fridge full of ice, needs defrosting.

Very central location in Hope, lovely town with great cafes and walks on your doorstep. Spotlessly clean. Really comfy beds, great shower.
Kitchen quite sparsely stocked, poor response from host when sent messages, road noise quite loud.
No BBQ, no firewood for the fire.
A few things like coffee, tea, shower gel etc are a big help when staying just for a few days and can’t pack a lot of things

Great location, lovely cottage with good facilities. I would stay here again.
It would have been nice to have more than 4 dining chairs. We are a family of 6 so couldn't all sit around the table together and it was a big snug on the sofa. However, we had a great stay and these are suggestions that would make the cottage just perfect for larger families!

Very cosy cottage and much better than expected (in this lockdown period)
We stayed two weeks for works purpose at Breedon Cement Plant and have found everything we needed in the cottage and around.
Nothing

Spacious rooms, great place to stay with friends, wonderful location with nice view outside. Small garden area with sofas and a pub next door. Shop 1 minute walk and some restaurants nearby. Clean and good amenities.
The heating didn't work and the host stopped replying to me when I raised it, and they never have any help on how to fix it or sent anyone around so we were quite cold. I thought communication was a bit poor. Checking in I had to call the host for instructions to check-in as no details provided. The sound of bells as others have mentioned was slightly annoying, and in the bedrooms the door is glass panelled which means if the hallway or bathroom light is on then the bedrooms light up. Doors should be changed as between this light coming in and the church bells it was quite difficult to sleep.
