Proximity to the bus stop and train station
No one is allowed to visit even for a moment. And the owner lives in the same apartment with dogs.

Really friendly welcome. The room was ‘blingy’ but fun. I was invited to make tea and coffee in their kitchen as no facilities in the room. The tv was huge!

Great location near centre and train station!
Quirky house, very comfortable bed, clean room, wifi good, on site parking!
Lovely welcome from Debbie on arrival, we were upgraded as Debbie thought we would be better in the larger room and we had more space at no extra cost!
We had everything we needed for our stay and will definitely be back!
We did miss the tea/coffee facilities in the room but there is access to make drinks in the family kitchen downstairs!

Amazing stay with helpful and friendly host, great location.
I would have liked a kettle in the room but other than that amazing, tremendous value for money for the quality/cleanliness of the room!

I liked everything about this room and staff. Very very clean. Very comfy bed. Quiet at night. Lovely sized shower, close enough to center with out getting all the crazy night noise. Little garden to sit in. Owner is lovely as a women traveling alone I felt completely safe. Looking forward to my next visit. And to top it off it's cheap.
There was nothing I didn't like.

There’s no question about the warmth of the welcome. Debbie, the owner, is very likeable and one immediately felt at home. My first impressions of my room were also very favourable. It felt really quite sumptuous with a stylish bedspread and a whole pile of richly-coloured cushions on the bed. There was also an artistically-decorated vintage wardrobe – even a Buddhist sculpture in the window. In fact, there were Buddha figurines all over the House which I really liked. Not to mention the very affectionate dog.
I don’t want to be critical because I enjoyed my stay. But I can’t not mention a fairly major issue on the first morning when I discovered that not only was my shower not working but that the power point had actually come away from the ceiling and was hanging by its wires. Although the owner allowed me to use the shower in her room, it was hardly ideal. It also immediately raised the question in my mind: surely this is something that’s checked every day? If not by the cleaner, then by the owner - or preferably both. For me, it’s an absolute basic rule of hospitality that, at the very, very least, guestrooms are clean and everything works. I’m sorry to say there was evidence of a similar lack of attention to detail at the front of the property as it was far from clear where the entrance is. In fact, I ended up mistakenly going to the hotel next door. Also, hasn’t anyone noticed that the latch on the double-gates is so stiff and awkward that it clearly needs adjusting? It's a shame that these oversights distracted from what was, overall, a very pleasant stay.

I cycle tour a lot so and used to staying in a place just for one night, I am looking for 2 things, cleanliness and a comfy bed and often I am disappointed. Not here. The first thing I noticed was that in a long line of guesthouses, The Bays was clearly the best maintained one, it also has a very nice courtyard too with plenty of seating. Debbie was there to let me in and was a very personable lady, I was able to store my cycle inside then shown to my room. I noticed on the way up that it's not decorated "normally", it has an eclectic mix of furnishings and colours, I liked it a lot. The room was fine, a very comfy bed, spotlessly clean and a decent en-suite, I couldn't fault it. I'd go back and stay again with my partner and often that wouldn't be the case in many places I stay in. I woudl definitely recommend The Bays!

Very friendly welcome from the family members, lovely quiet room at the back overlooking the garden, very comfortable bed, good shower with toiletries provided, great location a few minutes walk from the town centre, sea front and railway station.
Would have liked a kettle in the bedroom to make a morning cuppa. Use of kitchen offered but easier not to have to get dressed on waking up!

Owner was very friendly and helpful. Comfy bed. Nice compact bathroom. Secure bike storage.
Rather than a kettle in the room access to the kitchen was available to make a brew. Felt a bit awkward as it was the family kitchen and they were cooking dinner. Would be better in the room.
The advertised washing machine is not accessible like other shared kitchens and no dryer. The owner kindly threw my washing in with some of hers and mostly dry (ish) by the morning after hanging it up overnight.

Family friendly welcome, fantastic host.
A hidden gem in a seaside town full of generic hotels.
Debbie and the family are both welcoming thoughtful and knowledgeable about the area and respectfull of there clientele.
A very homely yet individual property, well done to respect the history of the building and the owners identity at the same time.
I would recommend this to anyone.
