Amazing hostel! Uber friendly and the staff work so hard with FREE activities each day/night which are so high quality. A great place to meet people as a solo traveller. The dorms are spacious and spotless. There is a kitchen for use and a lovely courtyard with hammocks to hang out in. A place people regular extend just to stay longer.
The only improvements I can think of are:
delimescale the showers (in reality, ours barely worked)
Maybe start breakfast earlier so those doing tours/ early morning things don’t have to buy breakfast out.

Comfortable beds, nice & helpful staff, great breakfast, nice rooftop
Not really a downside for me but might be good to know: a couple of blocks to walk to the Zocalo

I stayed here when coming in to Oaxaca and when leaving as well. Every staff member was friendly, fun and just made me feel welcome and like home. The communal evening activities are great, breakfast is delicious and the beds are comfy. Thanks for everything HH!
If I have to mention one thing, it would be that I have booked a tour via the hostel and they never picked me up, never picked up the phone when we called them, they basically completely ghosted me which wasted my full day in Oaxaca City. The hostel staff was very apologetic and sorry and returned my money back immediately. Not necessarily their fault, maybe just consider changing suppliers.

This place is a must stay when in Oaxaca city. The stuff, free delicious breakfast, evening fun including mezcal tasting and food making, informative and warm.

Friendly staff :)
No bunk beds in dorms!! Love
I was feeling unwell and happened to have a 4 bed dorm to myself for 3 nights which I loved
Breakfast was tasty and changed daily - they were very accommodating with dietary needs
Cute chill out spaces
WhatsApp group + lots of activities planned - sadly I couldn’t join for most of them but it was nice to also have things like movie night
Kitchen :)
A little bit further away from centro (but I knew that when I booked)

Excellent location, helpful staff and a beautiful atmosphere.
The hostel was cleaned daily, including mopping etc. but it needs a deep clean. The hostel is also a little tardy on responding to messsges which was a little frustrating leading up to my stay.

Lovely accommodation with something happening everyday. Staff are helpful and make the effort to create a social atmosphere. They also offer daily tours to hierve el agua and monte alban for those who do not want the hassle.
I stayed in both the single room and the room of 4. The toilet for the single room was not private and feels like it is constantly occupied. Would recommend to do the room of 4 where there is a toilet in the room.

Such a great stay! Bed was comfy, no bunks and spacious room. Breakfast each morning was unbelievable, and they happily cater to diatery needs (vegan/vego etc). There were included activities every night - mole and mezcal tasting, cocktails, movies and cooking class - all of which were well thought out and a great way to meet other guests. The workers and volunteers were super lovely and helpful. I had an amazing time and I will defintley stay again if I am lucky enough to find myself back in Oaxaca.
The bathroom was a little dated, but not really an issue for me. Also it's not in the centro, but the walk is easy and I never felt unsafe.

nothing bad to say about this hostel, its been my favourite out of 20 or so hostels across the Americas. The breakfast is incredible, the rooms are amazingly priced, and its the perfect size to get to know everyone well. It felt like such a great little community. The hostel organises events almost every day, which is great if you're a solo traveller. All the volunteers were lovely people. It's not a party hostal due to its size, but we went out to bars multiple times.
The location could be better, it's a couple of streets away from the busy area. Just don't walk home alone at 2am and you won't have any issues.

Hostal Central did exceptional breakfasts that was included in the rate and the breakfast changed each day. They also were very happy to cater for Vegans. The hostal had an event or activity each evening which was a great way for people to meet and learn about Oaxaca and Mexico. Events included cooking classes, movie nights and were great fun. The staff at the hostal were incredibly helpful in booking taxis, providing advice on restaurants and bus information.
We had a double room with private bathroom which was located facing the street. Room was a little noisy as window needed to be open (no A/C) but after one night was not an issue.

Atmosphere at the hostel immediately makes you feel home. Staff was so friendly and helpful too. Loved that they offer different evening activities, especially free meals. Food is prepared with lots of love. Never had such good hostel breakfast!! !
People say the location is actually not central. I think the location of the place is perfect. It’s a short walk to reach everything you want. I personally prefer this location to being right at the Santo Domingo Church were it is so loud and touristy.

Great activities offered within the hostel. Good location.
The property is a bit dated and needs some TLC, bathroom on top floor often dirty.

Wonderful hostel with a friendly atmosphere. The breakfast is amazing!! It’s a smaller hostel but it feels sociable due to the events (pizza night, mezcal tasting). Walkable distance to everything you need.

The property is very minimalistic in a sense but delivers what it promises. Staff is great.
Very anonymous and no real communal area. It feels more like a house that rents out rooms short-term.

Very friendly staff. Wonderful mezcal tasting event, very memorable. Comfortable atmosphere.
The whole hostel got booked out so the day we left they said we could not store luggage there to be picked up later in the day

The amaxing ambiance, patio, dining room and tv room. Many places to hang out and meet other people. The staff is so friendly, the rooms are cleaned every day, the beds made up. I slept in 3 rooms, love the rooms with the normal beds ans lots of space. Although I slept very well in the bunkbed dorm too.
It is a quiet hostel, not to big. It felt to me like a family as everyone shows up in the dining room, having breakfast together. And the quality of the food is amazing, fresh prepared, every day different and always this finishing touch like being in a restaurant. A very good start of the day this fulfilling breakfast. The owners are so nice too. They cooked for us on mole night, pizza night. I felt so taken cared for.
I might be spoiled now.....

Nice community hostel, hot water, workspace area, big tv, activities, trips offered from hotel do Hierve el aqua, and free walking tour. Amazing breakfast included hot cooked dish not like in other hostels. They do your bed. Great internet.
Breakfast is served very late from 8.30.

This was one of the best hostels I was in Central America. Firstly, it's small and all rooms are super spacious w/ private bathrooms and no bed bunks! The beds are comfy&clean and the dining area is wonderful.
Secondly, the staff was super welcoming and nice, giving excellent recommendations and support on everything!! The free breakfast is probably one of the best meals you'll have in Oaxaca. There's a homie-vibe all the time and a lot of effort to socialise with great activities
Kitchen is quite small&basic, but honestly Oaxaca isn't a place to cook, but to try local food & cuisine so I didn't mind. Also location isn't super central but I actually liked exploring the hostek area

What can I say, the rumours are true. This feels like coming home. Everything was so nice, everyone so friendly. So easy to socialise and also easy to be on your own if you please.
And the breakfast is AMAZING. Even for a vegan!!
There is noise from the street. Could not care less though as everything else makes up for it.

-Staff very polite and helpful
-Property was clean and very well put together
-All the facilities that were promised, were there (like well working fan)
We did not unfortunately have the opportunity to try the breakfast so no comment on that.
We had a private room w a private bathroom
- the bathroom smelled worst than a public bathroom and there was nothing you could do. There were also small mold stains in the ceiling.
- the facilities were all very old
-All in all very overpriced for what it was. I ofc did not expect for a hotel experience but I stayed in hostels before and it was a lot of money for the experience. For 60€ the night for 2 people the room was old, there was no privacy as the door was like a bedroom door (I could see the outside from under the door) and also our window was on top of the reception and we could hear everything (bell, phone from reception and talking).

Loved the amazing staff who really takes care of you, and also really loved the way the hostel is set up along with the events they host, so it's easy to start talking to fellow travelers (a great group when i was there). Breakfast is as good as they say, which leaves you with the difficult decision of eating there or try the great Oaxacan food. The dorms were quite private as well, with walls dividing beds.
The location is less central than the name implies (lol) and it can supposedly get sketchy at night if returning from a bar
