Comfortable and separate beds, the lovely staff and completely stocked kitchen were real highlights. They are always putting on some event or get-together to welcome people in. There's a small store, cafe and fantastic volunteers. Place to store food in the fridge was available although limited and there is plenty of space for camping (RV/trailer or tent) on the property. Hot water and water pressure in the room was fantastic! Everyone was respectful of quiet hours when we stayed and staff gave recommendations on what to see/do in the area. Luckily the works they're doing to improve the property didn't begin until around 9am, so we were always able to get a great night's rest! Very safe place with a code-locked gate, would be helpful to post a photo in the listing of what the entrance to the property looks like, a small dirt road/driveway right next to a restaurant but not in the complex to the left, rather the other side to the right.
Amazing views of the mountains, although sadly like much of México, many trails are inaccessible or advised as unsafe/difficult without a guide (I can confirm this as someone quite experienced in hiking and mountaineering in many countries/environments, having gotten semi-lost in the forest trying to follow my own topographic/GPS maps with trails that don't exist or have been re-located). This obviously isn't a reflection on the hostel, but we were sad to find out the only real "hike" you can do on your own was to Tepozteca and that required a 210 peso entry fee🫠🙃 the hostel does offer to set you up with a guided group hike, which when we visited was starting from ~300 pesos per person but no idea where to.
The room we stayed in (UFO) was very hard to get air circulated in. There was only one standing fan, and the way the outlets are set up in the room didn't allow it to be placed in front of the window to pull fresh air in. I'd suggest the hostel invest in some extension cords and an additional fan to help this.. The setup of the room also didn't allow the single bed a convenient place to charge devices. The location is near a street, so you'll hear some street noise and the city awaken around 6-8am.

The setting is beautiful. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The private room was clean and comfortable with toiletries included. The offers of activities are nice and the communal areas look fun and inviting.
It wasn’t always clear who was staff and who were guests but it wasn’t a big problem. The outdoor toilets would benefit from a bigger rain canopy, it’s impossible not to get soaked on your way in and out haha

Beautiful location, in the midst of nature, still very close to town. Very calming.
I would have personally preferred more bathrooms for the amount of people we shared a room with.

I would say the best I got was enjoying a balanced environment between work and rest. If you come to Ekko Hostel you're here for a treat of a genuine stay. Staying here allowed me to create community, learn new skills, and make new friends on my free time. I was able to work remotely (30+h/week) with the majestic view to the Tepozteco, and grab healthy and yummy meals from their cafe and nearby places. Commuting to Tepoztlán center was easy from their location with the local vans ($10 pesos/ride). I also am really grateful for the guests gracious hosting and their efforts to have us respect silent hours.
PS. If you're a pet lover like myself you're gonna enjoy it even more. Love their furries!!!! 🐾

spacious, earthy, clean, resourced kitchen, out of the main buzz of the town, hot water, comfy warm beds, always soap and toilet paper, kind people.
they were preparing for a party while i was there, a little of a buzz in all the communal spaces… that was the only thing.

The view from the outdoor covered kitchen and bonfire/hammock was incredible. You have a wide unobstructed view the whole day when you are hanging around the common area. The hang out areas have lots of different seating. There is usually always a fire with a jam session. It was quiet and secluded. There was an area for yoga and mediation with matts to use, I loved this part of Ekko. The people you meet here will inspire you.
The faculty needs some $$ invested back into it to upgrade and repair the bathroom, add curtains for the windows in the dorms, better pillows and some new equipment for the kitchen like new coffee mugs.

It was spacious and relaxed. The staff and other guests made it feel like home. It was a very nice place to be.

The other guests are always nice
The main volunteer decided he has something against me, he is someone playing popular kids and outsiders, 5th grade level, and decided to bully me and kicked me out of the hostel for no reason whatsoever. I am a kind, clean, always pays on time, kind of guest. On top of making me feel bad I had to struggle to find another acomodation on the last minute, as I was just passing tepoztlan for days to do some arrands.

Booked a couple of nights but stayed for over a week! Super OG barefoot hostel vibes with communal kitchen and living always alive, staff always around to chat and help, evening fires to sit around and music to listen to. Dorm beds are comfy with curtains, supermarket is a 2 minute walk away and colectivos aways passing to take you into town (less that 10 mins). Felt like home 💚💚💚

the location was a little out of center but the reward was the views and quiet connection to the outdoors. there was a lovely yoga area and chill out area. the volunteers were super friendly travelers who were very open and helpful and really made you feel at home and welcome to relax with them.
no wifi whilst we were there. not the best showers.

The staff are friendly
I got annihilated by bed bugs in the females only dorm. They seemed to be having issues with the plumbing when I stayed there one out of the three nights I had booked. The shower had grey water a couple inches deep in it, and the toilet struggled to flush. The bathroom never appeared to be cleaned while I was there and the kitchen was disgusting and missing many items to make it functional.

nothing, everything was absolutely great

Clean and friendly and there's a full kitchen
But they lock the front gate at night all through late morning and if you have heavy bags and are leaving early like me there will be nobody there to open it to let your transport vehicle in or out
The kitchen was great but no room in fridge
There is NOT an outlet at every bed

Friendly hostel in beautiful Tepotzlan
The dorm needs some TLC. Lots of people in a small space with not much room for luggage. Lots of rules and fines for disobedience!

Lovely grounds, friendly people, affordable rate, comfy beds
Lots of ants, kind of far from the town/action, pretty basic (as to be expected from a hostel)

Tepoztlán is a magical place and what makes this experience even more amazing are the people that work or stay at this beautiful hostel. If you are lucky and Santi from Argentina still works there, do yourself a huge favour and get a massage from him. It is not any ordinary massage, it´s a therapy from a wonderful person who really knows what he is doing.

Beautiful place, nice and helpful stuff
Upper beds don’t have electricity plug, not enough toilet paper, no light at the bathroom, it was hard to climb to the bed, expensive and far from the center

Location is nice, with a great view, and a couple of lovely stores on your doorstep. Quiet end of town. Chill atmosphere. Outdoor kitchen. Everything kept respectfully.
The beds were not so well made, but adequate for a night or two. Room was more cramped than I anticipated. Take your own padlock for the lockers. no ventilation at night (the window didn't open).
