Kyoto Narutaki Keisenso

I loved that this is a proper guest house. As in, you are treated like a welcome guest in someone's cozy house. Our hostess was so friendly and welcoming from the moment of my arrival. All guests were treated to the most wonderful morning & evening meals (*highly recommend adding*) - made fresh daily in-house, and seasonal according to what's fresh at the local market. Very easy to get to by car (with on-site parking) or from local transit, too. Makes a great home away from home to explore the west and north corners of the city for a few days, in a relaxed neighborhood with a nice local bar/izakaya scene within walking distance. I looked forward to returning here each evening after sightseeing just to hang out with both the other guest and our amazing hostess/propriétaire. Feels well off the beaten tourist track, and like getting a real slice of daily life by way of great food and the best company.

Nothing! It was wonderful! Just don't expect a downtown Hilton - this is a clean, cozy, no frills guest home with shared bathrooms in a relatively quiet neighborhood (for a big city). [All photos are mine, taken at or within walking distance of the lodgings.]

オーナーさんが近隣観光スポットについて、行き方など丁寧に説明してくださりうれしかったです。ベッドの寝心地が大変よく朝遅くまで熟睡でき、前日までの疲れがすっかとれました。お茶やデザートのサービスもあり満足です。次回の京都訪問も時もぜひ利用したです。

Ikuko est une extraordinaire dame. Son accueil est d’une gentillesse extrême, son attention est délicate, son goût d’échanger est sans égal, et son rire est enchanteur. J’ai passé une très belle semaine chez elle. Sa guest house est confortable et elle sert un petit déjeuner excellent et varié de jour en jour. Elle est située dans un quartier calme fait de ruelles et des petites maisons, très bien relié par quantité de bus, trains et tram. Beaucoup de commerces à 10 mn sur le chemin vers et depuis le centre-ville.

Tout est parfait.

The Lady made a very good traditional breakfast. We had the opportunity to see a Japanese house inside.

The house is quite far from everything it takes at least 30 minutes to get into the city. The worst part was that the walls are literally made of paper no soundproof at all. My room was above the living room and the kitchen so I heard every noise from there. First night the landlady was cleaning the house and washing at midnight(!). I had to go down to ask her If we could sleep. And of course she started her daily routine at 6am. Not a good place to rest :(
