New Alfama Chic Sao Miguel

We loved the location, right in the middle of Alfama. The place was easy to find, it was clean, and the beds were comfortable.

We had trouble getting inside, they didn't give us the right key but there was a electronic code to enter so we used the code. The next morning the electronic keypad was not working so we were stuck outside until someone brought us the right key. The owner had agreed through booking messaging to a early check-in at 11am but when we got there, nobody on-site knew and we had to wait until 3pm with all of our luggage.

Il quartiere Alfama è affascinante ma anche troppo turistico.

L'appartamento al secondo piano con una scala molto ripida. Le scale erano sporche. Il palazzo non è tenuto bene. Sotto all'appartamento c'è la griglia del ristorante. Vi consiglio di tenere le finestre chiuse per evitare che vi antri in casa l'odore di pesce.

The property was a good size right in the centre of Alfama. Very clean and had the basics that we needed for 5 nights.

There was no A/C, just 2 fans - one of which wasn’t very good. But that was about it that could be improved!

Nicely decorated, plenty of closet space. Beds and sofa were comfortable, fans were very helpful in the heat. Can’t comment on the kitchen families, we didn’t use them. Building had a coffee shop and a few brunch places and restaurants around.

We agreed to meet a friend of the host’s at 3 PM for check-in and we messaged them 3 hours prior to confirm we’d arrived in Lisbon and are on schedule to meet them on time. We arrived at the building at 2:57 PM and waited until 3:20 PM and no one arrived. We messaged the friend a few times while we waited but had no response. The host had advised us earlier that we could store our luggage in the friend’s office, so we looked up office and it was 5 minutes from the building. We arrived at the office to ask for the friend, and were advised she wasn’t available. We asked to check in to the property and were told we’d need to wait and to leave our luggage. We refused, and the friend’s colleague went to message someone and later came back with a key and walked us back to the building. She checked us in and when we asked what the delay was, she advised that the cleaner had not returned the second set of keys. We didn’t feel there was any understanding or empathy for our circumstances, and certainly no prior communication to tell us about the delay. This is after we’d been travelling for 8 hours and were exhausted. The friend also read our messages and didn’t respond, and never provided an apology for the delay. We ultimately checked in at 3:45 PM, again with no apologies. We had a 5 night stay, and would’ve benefited from two sets of towels each given the lack of washing facilities. For 3 nights the noise from the street was extremely loud, granted we stayed during a festival that happens in June , but the windows did nothing to block the noise. The location is around a 15-20 min walk from most tourist attractions and major train stations, so bear that in mind.
