Chelston Dene Holiday Apartments

Close to train station and 5 min walk to beach, staff where very friendly and helpful. Great location. Apartment was fresh and super clean. Modern decor Bed and pillows were very comfortable. Lots of storage.

No air con in apartment just a portable fan, room was very very hot but I did go on holiday during a heat wave 🥵 When I opened windows owners dogs were in garden constantly barking and aloud to be able to do so. Owners dogs where off lead in the garden that guests where supposed to be able to access but as a assistance dog owner that meant we had to avoid the garden when they where out there for hours as I wasn’t sure if they would run up to my dog and they where a lot bigger than my dog so a bit intimidating. I felt like I was intruding into the owners garden rather a garden for guests. Garden is a bit lack lustre! Benches and tables are rotted, no cushions and because of it being a slope it was very difficult and uncomfortable to sit on. No luggage room and early check out meant I lost a lot of extra time a could have spent on a beach. I would have happy paid a storage fee before and after checking in if it meant I could have used my time more efficiently on holiday between waiting on trains:- I had a train at 2pm, I was told to check out at 10am which I accepted but had to lug a suitcase and my dog around in 30 degree heat for four hours, which I didn’t do of course, I ended up changing my train times but if they offered facilities like that and charged guests to leave suitcases for the day then they can go to restaurant or last walk before trains- missing a trick there. There was a separate charge for towels which is just bizarre and a bit cheeky if I am honest, never experienced that, also no shampoo and conditioner in shower room, It’s the little touches that make a difference and that was lacking. Overall it was an okay stay just a bit disappointing as could have been great!

The property was in the perfect location for the stay, within walking distance of Torquay train station. It was great to be able to check in a little early, instead of just dropping off bags as had been expected. The apartment was very spacious, with two sofas in the room as well as the large and comfortable bed. Two pillows each were provided. Bed side lighting and other lights made it easy to read inside. Amenities were plentiful, with a stocked kitchenette area. Washing up liquid and hand soap were provided, but not shower gel. Shower was hot and powerful enough. Towels are available to rent for £2.50 for a pack of two (one large, one hand towel). There was plenty of storage with a wardrobe, other hooks on the wall and a large chest of drawers. There was a secluded large sloping garden at the property, with outdoor seating and tables. No issues with the WiFi. Great value for money in our opinion.

The 10am check out time, although no doubt it takes time to clean all the apartments in advance of the next guests. The slim-line shower is fine for tall people to use, although perhaps more of a challenge for those wider in girth!
