About this house rental
Our wonderful rustic "Mas" farmhouse full of character in the quiet and serene Gavarres Nature Park/Baix Emporda between Palamos and Mont Ras near Palafrugell and Calella... however it is far from the maddening crowd but just a stone's throw away from the beaches of Castell, La Fosca, Cala Estreta, etc on the Costa Brava.

Mas Cabré is a typical Catalan "mas" (farmhouse) built in 1842, according to the date chiseled on the front stone archway. However, it's been documented that a building of some kind already stood there in the 15th century. That's not surprising, since human presence in the area dates from prehistoric times and several dolmens and other Neolithic carvings can be found on the property or close to it.
During our recent renovation of Mas Cabré, we've kept its rustic, simple style, while upgrading some of the amenities (electricity, water, bathrooms, kitchen, beds and furniture); and we've added a beautiful wood board terrace against a stone wall, with spectacular views of the forest and the sea as well as (since July 2016) a rustic style swimming pool.
The 450 sq meter (1,476 sq feet) house has two floors with large rooms (all doubles) and high ceilings, and sleeps a maximum of 12 people. It is perfect for families or groups of friends wanting to enjoy a few quiet days out in the countryside near the beach, surrounded by beautiful and serene landscapes.
In or around the house, our guests can read, sunbathe, cook, play ping pong and enjoy long, lazy meals on the terrace, or simply sit back and admire the views. Beyond the house, there are plenty of options: going to some of the best beaches of the Costa Brava: Platja Castell, Cala Estreta… hikes or short bicycle trips to nearby Fitor, sailing, kayaking, horseback riding or visiting nearby villages and markets: Mont-Ras, Palamos, Palafrugell...

Want to do have a private yoga class? We can arrange for a session with a local yoga teacher.
Want to visit some of the nearby megalithic ruins or wine cellars? We can arrange for a guide to take you on a hike or wine tasting tour to visit them and explain the megalithic culture or wine vineyards in the region.

Mas Cabre is all about location, location, location! You feel like you are far away from everything, almost in the middle of nowhere.
It is situated in the Gavarres Nature Park which is included in the European Union's Natura 2000 Network of protected areas whose goal is to ensure the long term survival of Europe's species and habitats in a sustainable manner.
The nearest house is 1 km away.
However you can see the sea from the house and the town and beaches of the Costa Brava are only minutes away.
Located in the beautifully scenic Baix Empordà region, in Catalonia, Mas Cabré belongs to the municipalities of Vall-Llobrega and Forallac, an area rich with history, great food and sports activities.
From there, you can visit old medieval towns or go to the beach; you can indulge in lunch or dinner by the sea or surrounded by nature; or you can visit a local winery and experience a wine tour.
And let's not forget bicycle trips, sailing, fishing, scuba diving, kayaking… You can also go for a day trip to the cities of Girona or Barcelona, a mere 45 minutes or 1 ½ hours away.

Ideally by car (even though there is Sarfa bus service as well as taxis)
How to get to Mas Cabre?
Definitely by car.
Mas Cabre is 45 minutes from Girona and 1 hour 1/2 from Barcelona and is located between the towns of Palamos and Mont-Ras.
It's easy to find Vall-LLobrega and the last portion (1km) of the road to the house is a un-paved road which sets the mood to your stay at Mas Cabre.
A small SUV/Crossover or similar car is recommended.
Basically you just need a high clearance car.
Long low cars (sedans) not recommended.
IMPORTANT: Please share this information with the other people travelling by car in your group who may not read this.
Please indicate what vehicle you will be arriving in.

If you plan on organising a birthday party or event you MUST let us know before you make your reservation otherwise your 500€ deposit will not be returned.

It is already a few days after our departure, but we would like to say that we had it here insanely beautiful and miss the days in Mas Cabré already very much.
Your house is simply amazing! Whether with 6 or as later with 13 people (me personally too much dishwasher ;) we felt very, very good in Mas Cabré. The atmosphere and the vibes in the house are unique, the view and the location wonderful. You and Joan are great hosts, generous and warm-hearted, responded very quickly and straightforwardly when we had questions or problems. From Joan's vegetable garden, with tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, eggplant.... we were allowed to harvest, even if the tomatoes still had to grow a little. :)
In the kitchen there are plenty of glasses, cutlery and plates - the fridge and stove are fantastic. Only pots and pans are partly not in such good condition and maybe too little and or too small to cook in the house for 13+ people.
Each of the rooms has its own charm, the beds and linen were fresh, the house overall very clean. We have recovered well, felt absolutely comfortable and would definitely like to return again.

Our stay was fantastic. The house is beautifully charming, and it is quite exceptional to be in such an isolated area, with no other buildings in sight, so close to the beach (only 10-15 mins driving!). The hosts were very kind in both check-in and check-out and responded quickly to our messages. A great stay!

We had a three week holiday with our patchwork family of 4 kids (age 17-27) with their boy-and girlfriends and one grandchild(age 4). Loved the privacy of the house (no neighbors anywhere) and the view. Also the pool and coolness in the house (many ways to ventilate with fans and through opening of windows). Michele is a great host: helpful, answers very quickly (before and during stay) and fixes issues rapidly when they occur (pool, WiFi etcetera) so loved the service. We had a great stay there. We didn’t know exactly that it was located on a hill with almost no flat areas to play football or lay around and the road uphill was challenging with a van (but we managed). We also missed a bit the barbecue outside but fully respect the fact that in this area no fires are allowed. We also rented a boat with Joan (husband of Michele) and had a great afternoon on the water with our group. Also very good service. It was a challenging period during covid-19 but we had a wonderful holiday at Mas Cabre.

We found this excellent property when searching for somewhere in Spain to celebrate a special family milestone. Mas Cabre fulfilled all our needs. It is very suitable for family members of all ages. The games, including pool and table tennis, provided endless fun for all. The swimming pool, which is well maintained, was in use from early morning until bedtime. The was of particular importance in the high temperatures of July/August 2019.
The outside ambience was just what we needed for eating and socialising. Inside the range of rooms, from a well equipped kitchen to several chill-out areas meant that it was possible to find somewhere to escape the inevitable hubbub of family life.
The property is close to some excellent beaches and a day at sea with the owner's husband is not to be missed.
The immediate area provides plenty of walking and opportunities to study the local heritage.
If an unforgettable experience for you and your family in a rural Spanish setting is what you seek, then Mas Cabre is for you.
