About this villa rental

Casa Que Canta (House that Sings) is a Spanish style villa with a central courtyard and 2nd level terrace facing the ocean. The bedrooms are all on the 2nd level - each has a terrace and are fully airconditioned. We also have a backup generator for the occasional power outage. Two have a king beds, two have queens and twins.. We also offer on site all inclusive meals The villa is a located 5 miles north of Mahahual Mexico. The beaches are white sand with a coral reef just 250 yards off shore. Ideal for swimming and sun bathing. Area is know for world class snorkeling and diving. Reef in front of the property has a number of beautiful corral heads.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ENTIRE CARIBBEAN COST IS HAVING ISSUES WITH SARGASSO SEA WEED AT TIMES. NO WAY TO PREDICT BUT WHEN PRESENT CAN MAKE SWIMMING DIFFICULT AND HAS A BAD ODOR. Snorkeling & dive trips also available in nearby Mahahual. There are many restaurants, fun shops, & great Mayan ruins near by. If you like to fish there is both world class Fly fishing for Tarpon and Bonefish and excellent off shore fishing available for charter in town. Fishing is consistently good. Things to do at Casa Que Canta: The area is rich in Mayan culture and history. Nearby ruins of Chacchoben are a must visit along with Kohonlich and Dzibenache if you have time. Lake Bacalar and the old Spanish fort also make a great day trip. The area is also rich in Cennotes some of which are almost too beautiful to describe. Hidden Worlds Cenote has been featured on a National Geographic special.
Majahual itself is a fast growing Mexican fishing village with many good restaurants and nice shops. Very busy on cruise ship days, but extremely quiet in between. Beaches are wonderful.
Water Sports: Traveling to Mexico for many is all about the Ocean and the beach. The Costa Maya is blessed with some of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico - almost all of them protected by the worlds 2nd largest barrier reef. The reef at Casa Que Canta is only 200 meters off shore. This means the swimming is exceptional - no currents - no rip tides - extremely safe even for small children. The waves are very light and the depth drops off slowly - you can walk out 100 meters and still be waist high. The reef provides great snorkeling - tons of corral - fish - even an occasional lobster if you watch closely. The nearby fisherman go out almost everyday and can provide fresh fish for use on the grill. Or if you like bring a spear gun and try getting your own.
Snorkeling from the kayaks we have is great on the calmer days and very safe.

Our stay at the beachfront twin home, was so peaceful and amazing. From the beautiful sunrises in the morning to the gorgeous moonrise at night. There were multiple sitting areas facing the beach making for a restful congregation place for everyone to enjoy. The location was a short distance from Mahahual, yet far enough away from crowds and people in general. We loved having bathrooms for each bedroom and two downstairs. Our host Emanuel and Sandra were very gracious and attentive to all our needs. One day they made fresh conch ceviche. The only downside was the cleanliness of the beach. It was very sad to see so much trash littering the front of the house. It seems like some effort could be made to keep the trash picked up there daily. This was a beautiful location for our group of 7 to spend 8 nights at. Thank you for your hospitality.

If you are independent and like remoteness, this is the property for you! There is a bit of a rough road for the last few hundred meters to access the property and I would highly recommend you have a vehicle. The kitchens are well set up and the open living space is roomy. There is no TV but there is internet on the main floor so you can stream on your own devices. There is no cellular reception. This makes the property ideal for big meals and lots of visiting. The beach is secluded any we only saw a few fisherman over our 2 month stay. Beds are comfortable and the rooms are air conditioned.Emanuel (caretaker) and Gabe are excellent local experts and will help to keep the aging faculty running (sun and wind are tough on the house).Highly recommend.

This was a very cool property that you can tell was designed and built with a lot of love and care. The location was amazing if you are looking for more of a remote place with lots of privacy (we were). The beach was nice and the water and reef in front of the house were awesome. Great place to swim, snorkel, and even spear fish! The design - 3 story with living/kitchen on the 1st floor, sleeping/bathing on 2nd floor, and pool/house utilities on 3rd floor proved to be comforting - as hurricane Beryl decided to make an appearance halfway through our stay. We had a top of the line generator and safety on the second (and third) floor in the case of storm surge or flooding (didn't happen). We felt comfortable sheltering in place and riding out the storm - house was SOLID (concrete construction with stucco and tile inlay). We were very lucky as the sargassum (seaweed) was minimal during our stay. The one (small) negative was the cleanliness of the house. It could have done with a deep cleaning prior to us showing up (We ended up doing it ourselves). Also, the beach was not cleaned prior to our arrival and was covered in sargassum and debree. Manuel took care of it the day after our arrival, but we did lose most of a full day of beach use. Manuel (caretaker) was very nice and helpful. He can answer any of your questions and is a font of information about the town and surrounding area. he helped us with our visit to the local Mayan ruins and the lake town of Bacalar

Only after the booking did we get the list of the things in the things in the jungle to be aware of. But not to worry we only in counted the things not on the list. When we arrived there was a 3 ‘ snake in the living room. They told us a small rattle that would probably not bit At night lots of small geckos on the walls and ceilings which is fine we are very used to them. But huge bull frog and several crabs Just a little uneasy in the dark. Warning of scorpion if you leave anything on the floor or sand. The beach has three lounge chairs. One broken. The beach is not like the picture at all. Lots of beach washed away plus huge amount of seaweed both washed up on the beach 6’ to 8 ‘. And 10 to 15’ of seaweed floating in the water you had to go through to get into the water. Good thing we were not driving a car as the road in was Horrible huge holes that we had to drive around even in a mini van. Now the GOOD part. Very quiet and relaxing and the caretakers are AMAZING. Very helpful. And friendly. They really make the property. They made us supper one night FANTASTIC. King fish cooked Vega plus rice and beans and pico. Cut open fresh coconuts for us And even made us two kinds of ceviche. As for Mahahual everything closes up by 6 pm only beach clubs during the day when the cruise ships are in town. Sometimes 3 at a time All in all a ok visit. Would I every go back or rent this property for my family NO. Did it once not again.
