La chaumière du Tordoir

La Chaumière du Tordoir is a beautiful and wonderfully peaceful place to stay, with a very relaxed atmosphere. Catherine and Jacques are warm and welcoming hosts, and there is a lovely sense of being welcomed into their home rather than simply staying in a B&B. The house has real charm and character, and everything feels comfortable and unforced. Guests are also welcome to use facilities such as the fridge and kitchen if they wish, which adds to that relaxed, homely feeling. The outdoor space beside the river was a particular highlight, with wildlife all around and an extraordinary sense of peace and serenity — the sort of place where you could happily sit for hours. Its location, around 90 minutes from Calais, makes it perfect for an overnight stop, but it is absolutely worth considering staying longer. There is plenty to explore in the surrounding area, and the peaceful setting makes it a destination in its own right. Breakfast was delicious, and the care and attention given to guests made the whole stay feel particularly special.

Amazing location right on the canal, great for picturesque walks in the countryside. The house looked lovely and had thoughtful, original decorations throughout. The hosts were very kind. We loved our homemade breakfast 😋

A lovely location by the canal side and only a short distance from the autoroute. It was great to sit outside surrounded by nature while our host Catherine prepared a supper for us, meaning we did not have to drive again after a long day in the car. Our room was comfortable and bathroom across the corridor. The house was interesting and we had a pleasant stay. Excellent value for money.

We didn’t like the fact that our account was debited by £175 (200 euros) during the night before our stay even though the accommodation had been paid in full, making us think we had been scammed. However on contacting Catherine she explained this was a security deposit and returned the money immediately. She said this was her bank’s requirement, but without prior notice we thought this was totally unacceptable and have never come across this before.
