Stressfree.

Fantastic Hotel, so nice to be somewhere that dogs are truly welcome, it made the weekend so much ,no stress, lovely accommodation,food,and staff. Thank you.

Located at the foot of a variety of good walks, it is well appointed with boot and pet cleaning facilities. Very comfortable with good views, great meals and friendly staff.

Super moorland retreat

Lovely, relaxing stay

All staff, without exception, had a smile for us and were helpful and efficient. We were impressed at the cleanliness, particularly as the hotel is dog friendly. There were no signs of the mess dogs can cause such as dog hairs etc...it's impressive and very welcome. Convenient location for Bovey Tracey and Hays Tor. The shower and water pressure was excellent, room temperature, although centrally controlled, was just right with great views of the garden.

This is a tricky one because the hotel makes no secret of the fact that it's dog friendly. However, if you don't like dogs, I can see it becoming rather overwhelming at times. I didn't have a dog with me and I am a dog lover, however, even I was a little overwhelmed during the evening meal in the bar area where everyone else was accompanied by one or two dogs. I also think that the hotel should make it very clear that there is a paws on floor policy as I don't like seeing dogs seated at the table, or on the furniture.

Excellent all round! Thoroughly recommend.

The hotel was lovely. The staff were all excellent too from the receptionist though to all the waiting staff; they were all friendly and helpful. We had lunch, an evening meal and breakfast at the hotel, all were very good. Also, lots of nice little touches, the radio playing Classic FM when you arrived in the room, a note from the housekeeping staff.

There were lots of dogs at the hotel as it is dog friendly. It didn't particularly bother me but if you don't like dogs it might be worth considering.

Location, cosy, comfort, picturesque

A fantastic stay on the western side of Dartmoor. Friendly staff who showed us to our room. The room was a suite with a bath tub in the middle of the room with a view of the fields! Very cosy and picturesque. Food options a the hotel were fantastic! We had dinner at the pub and it was delicious. Breakfast in the morning was also great with cooked breakfast options and buffet available. Would definitely recommend!

Lovely Hotel in a beautiful setting with a chef that obviously loves what he does.

We had a lovely stay. The food is amazing. We had dinner the evening we arrived and a lovely couple celebrating shared their very special champagne with us which was a real treat. Our breakfast was very tasty and we also stayed for Sunday lunch as it was heavy rain and due to clear after lunch! The taste of the food is lovely. Whoever the chef is he really loves and knows what he is doing.

Facilities are excellent. Room clean and had everything. All staff friendly and helpful. Particularly the lovely young lady on reception and the housekeeping staff. Rooms are serviced daily and really well. Restaurant food is good, especially the breakfasts and buffet. Dog friendly and welcomed. Grounds well kept and lovely. Area perfect for walking. Car park safe.

Hotel has gone corporate and has lost some of its charm and atmosphere. Afternoon tea was very very sweet with few sandwiches. The breakfast was rather expensive and cooked breakfast apart from a good sausage was quite bland and salty. We have stayed here a few times when it was independent but this time was disappointed.

Wi-fi varied however wouldn’t want to use as nice to switch off. On this occasion had to be in contact with family members staying elsewhere for a wedding function so needed

Evening ‘manager was very rude on checking in. Sunday evening hotel lobby area smelt like a retirement home ( I’m guessing the kitchen is close to the lobby) Decor was nice but overall had the feel of a very expensive retirement home.

Brilliant!

Location for visiting family and walks on Dartmoor. Very comfortable and cosy lounge area.

Nothing really.. I think longer term the hotel would benefit from Investing in an adult’s only spa / pool facility with steam rooms, jacuzzi’s and small pool. Plus, offer massage therapy services. People would travel far and wide to enjoy it. It would take the hotel to another level.

Fantastic place to visit. This was my second and not my last.

Another hotel in a wonderful location. You can walk straight out onto the open moor and Hay Tor is right in front of you. Magnificent when you walk up to it. A really good place and excellent service.

People with dogs aren't allowed in the main restaurant which is strange as the establishment and staff are all very dog-friendly. The hotel wifi was rubbish.

“Curate’s egg” stay.

Location was excellent. Staff very polite and accommodating when you could find them. Good food. Comfortable bed.

No lift to the second floor, only first floor, and no-one to help with suitcases. Not advised when booked. Reception not manned regularly. Notice saying find me in e.g. bar. Always no-one at the nominated place. Telephone messages remained unanswered, no reply/answer. Staff appeared to be stretched very thinly across several disciplines. Breakfast was always slow service. Situated one morning in the conservatory which was doubling as dining chairs and odds and ends storage area. Lots of flies in dining room windows. Cleanliness needs to improve. Dusty stair bannister and when bedroom windows opened very dirty. Raised these points when we were leaving, with Receptionist, when we found her, after ten minute wait. Said she would pass on to management and housekeeping. Generally did not live up to expectations, based on previous reviews.

Haytor & housemartins amid genteel country hotel

Great little room, sensible design and very well equipped. A lovely outlook over the magnificent garden. Quality bedding on a very comfortable bed. Bathroom excellent. Superb breakfast, with lots of choice for both cooked to order and buffet items. Loved watching the house martins as they swept by to their nests under the eaves. Ample parking in various areas. Evening meal was good despite the vegetarian choices being unavailable, with negotiation, chef was able to do an omelette. Easy walk to Haytor.

Check in and out were both tediously slow, mostly due to a lack of staff. Bar service was rather slow.
