We have two dogs and we have never felt so welcome with a four legged members of the family. We got a gift box for the dogs on arrival with a toy , poo bags and treats . The restaurant had dog blankets for them to lay on and all staff made a fuss of them . We had a room that opened out into the beautiful gardens . Magnificent
Nothing all amazing

The staff were exceptional! Everyone from the front of house on arrival to all the waitresses at breakfast were very friendly and professional. Our five year old was made to feel very welcome and our room was immaculate. 10/10 for everything.

Great location right next to Haytor with dog friendly rooms that open straight on to the gardens. Nice big lounge with comfy sofas.
We have stayed a few times before and it was all previously excellent, this time not so much, hopefully better next time. A bit disorganised with tables left uncleared for a really long time in the lounge. Breakfast items not topped up unless staff asked even though it wasn’t busy. Very limited menu available on first night.

Great hotel right on the edge of the moors. It's a tiny bit dated in the rooms/hallways, but this is simply the style of the property and nothing to detract from the enjoyment. The team were super helpful and looked after us well during a 90th b-day celebration lunch. Thoughtful dog treats and toy in the room - cute touch.
Just one small problem with the room key not being set up correctly (twice) which meant a couple of trips to reception from our room at the far end of the hotel. Minor issue. Mixed experiences with the food at lunch - mostly very good, but question the 'Brixham Catch of the Day' being a farmed salmon fillet. Again, not a big deal for this occasion and we would happily stay there again as a couple.

The room was really clean and very welcoming with bedside lights on and a radio playing classical music when I entered. the staff that I met were all efficient and personable. There were also other details like Nespresso machine (although I don't drink coffee) and a dyson hairdryer that were impressive. The touch of having a rubber duck sat on the soap dish in the ensuite was cute and there was a welcome note from Housekeeping all of which created a warm impression.
I was less keen on the breakfast but that is more to do with me - I am a vegetarian that doesn't like eggs so that left the option of a vegan sausage sandwich from the menu (not a fan of cooked tomatoes so didn't want the full breakfast). So I would have liked perhaps the option of american pancakes with fruit and yoghurt,

Great quiet location. Very comfortable and rooms had everything we needed. I like that you can get fresh milk from the bar for tea and coffee. Coffee machine worked well. Great toiletries and pillow spray, and a decent Dyson hairdryer a nice thing to have. Large car park and loads of walking available locally, although we didn’t have time to explore but we are coming back for my birthday to do so again! Staff super friendly which is a huge plus point. Evening meal and dessert fabulous.
The only thing was at breakfast I asked for the items (eggs/salmon) to be on top of 2 bits of toast which the lad wrote down but only one given so salmon on side (I realise you can make extra but so it doesn’t get cold, better if just comes with it). Also husband asked for poached eggs on toast and only one egg. 2 would be way better, or give the option when taking the order?

Breakfast was delicious, evening meal was lovely, sitting in the large comfortable lounge having a drink was so relaxing and for me, an Agatha Christie fan totally fantastic. We only live in Exeter and that was our first time there, we cannot wait to go back, the cream tea is calling.
Nothing!

We have stayed at the hotel a number of times now, it's a great getaway if you need a break from the kids and just want to walk read a book or sit in the lounge with a pot of tea. Dog friendly so bring the furey beast with you.

Very friendly and helpful staff, fabulous location and food, plenty of car parking, spacious lounge area which is dog friendly, well appointed and comfortable rooms.
It’s always nice to have a little more space in the room but that’s being picky. We’ve stayed here several times before and always thoroughly enjoy it.

Location rooms and relaxation
Tables needed clearing so we did it ourselves asked a gentleman behind the food counter for a cloth to wipe the table he gave me a wet cloth but I felt he should have asked why and where we were sat.
Asked to book breakfast as they were busy arrived at our breakfast time in the dog friend area table wasn’t laid and very quiet.

On Dartmoor, great for dogs.
Well presented rooms, dining and thoughtful little touches.
Rather small rooms, especially for 2 people and a dog
Having to book for breakfast.

All staff, without exception, had a smile for us and were helpful and efficient. We were impressed at the cleanliness, particularly as the hotel is dog friendly. There were no signs of the mess dogs can cause such as dog hairs etc...it's impressive and very welcome. Convenient location for Bovey Tracey and Hays Tor. The shower and water pressure was excellent, room temperature, although centrally controlled, was just right with great views of the garden.
This is a tricky one because the hotel makes no secret of the fact that it's dog friendly. However, if you don't like dogs, I can see it becoming rather overwhelming at times. I didn't have a dog with me and I am a dog lover, however, even I was a little overwhelmed during the evening meal in the bar area where everyone else was accompanied by one or two dogs. I also think that the hotel should make it very clear that there is a paws on floor policy as I don't like seeing dogs seated at the table, or on the furniture.

Lovely hotel and grounds in an ideal position for walking
The service in the restaurant was disorganised

The hotel was lovely. The staff were all excellent too from the receptionist though to all the waiting staff; they were all friendly and helpful. We had lunch, an evening meal and breakfast at the hotel, all were very good. Also, lots of nice little touches, the radio playing Classic FM when you arrived in the room, a note from the housekeeping staff.
There were lots of dogs at the hotel as it is dog friendly. It didn't particularly bother me but if you don't like dogs it might be worth considering.

A fantastic stay on the western side of Dartmoor. Friendly staff who showed us to our room. The room was a suite with a bath tub in the middle of the room with a view of the fields! Very cosy and picturesque. Food options a the hotel were fantastic! We had dinner at the pub and it was delicious. Breakfast in the morning was also great with cooked breakfast options and buffet available. Would definitely recommend!

We had a lovely stay. The food is amazing. We had dinner the evening we arrived and a lovely couple celebrating shared their very special champagne with us which was a real treat.
Our breakfast was very tasty and we also stayed for Sunday lunch as it was heavy rain and due to clear after lunch! The taste of the food is lovely.
Whoever the chef is he really loves and knows what he is doing.

The food both for dinner and breakfast was amazing. The hotel staff were all very friendly and the place is lovely. We enjoyed it so much that we booked an extra night.
Nothing, we loved everything about the place.
