    They are working on their breakfast facilities. Some other general maintenance is needed: the front door access panel is held on with duct tape, the stairs to room 21 need cleaning and painting. The room and bathroom are well cared for. The overall condition is what one would find in Southern Europe not what one would expect in Northern Europe.

    The Hotel Mayflower is a solid hotel at a great price in the heart of Leiden. Note, there is no lift and narrow stairs. Rooms overlooking the Beestenmarkt (square) can be loud (seagulls and partygoers)

    I stayed at this hotel for a week, and it certainly has its advantages and drawbacks. The biggest advantage is its location, facing Beestenmarkt Square, offering a beautiful view 24/7. The early morning view from the window, in particular, is unforgettable. Also, staying in a traditional Dutch building as a visitor was a very special experience. Compared to other hotels in Leiden, the price is also quite reasonable, which is a major plus. However, the hotel’s facilities are definitely outdated, which is a clear downside. The shower in the room had clogged holes, so the water trickled out slowly, and the toilet was frequently running. The electric kettle in the room was covered in limescale, making it unappealing to use. (I had to buy a lemon, boil it, and use it to remove the limescale myself before using the kettle.) Additionally, the reception closes at 9 p.m., which can make late check-ins difficult. The booking site I used mentioned a 24-hour reception, but that was not the case. For those planning to check in late, keep that in mind. Despite these issues, I was overall satisfied with my stay.

    Advertised as double room but is 2 single beds. Told there are no double beds. Photos appear to show double beds together, when I asked, they said it may be old photo. Room cleaning at 10.30 am only, never came back. Excellent size room and bath, Shane about advertising as double room
