A hotel that has just about everything

The great Northern hotel has something for just about everyone just within walking distance you’ve cut surfing golfing, possibilities of seeing them northern lights and playgrounds for the kids.

I have no complaints about the property, but I was traveling with two older teens, and it would’ve been nice to know the properties schedule in advance that it was bingo night as there were no other people around their age. Nothing really for them to do age relative. In the evening.

A relic of old decency

Location (overlooks beach and golf course, room size (4 adults, 2 rooms), renovated bathroom in the twin room, breakfast choices, parking availability. Staff in the breakfast room were efficient and friendly.

Registration was a disaster: a trolley was provided (we had a lot of bags) but the first room we (elders) were given (after we had to insist on the double room we had booked) had a series of steps up AND down to navigate, plus several corridors to reach the room located at the extreme end. This room was nice but was nowhere near our daughters and on inspection, had no telephone or means of contacting the hotel. Returning to reception, they found us another double room and offered a desultory apology. After a lot of walking up and down corridors etc this room door key didn't work. By now we are extremely frustrated and have a negative view of our situation. There was no call from a manager, no offer of a free drink at the bar or any other gesture to mitigate this impression. A poor show from a purportedly high end hotel. On departure, our request for a trolley was met with: "I'll see if anyone is available to bring one up to you". The trolley arrived with an unenthusiastic offer of assistance which we declined. It just wasn't worth the attitude. The twin beds were uncomfortable and the pillows in both rooms were ridiculously thin - more like fat mats than pillows.

Stayed with my granddaughter WiFi wouldn’t connect Netflix either woke up 2/20 by people shouting outside door then cleaning staff at 9/15 so loud laughing and no thought for guests at 150 a night would expect better would not book again

Disaster!

Rogey Walk, Tullan Strand and the lively town. Perfect place to see the sunset.

The Hotel. We left a night early. The room was substandard, dirty and not private. Also the noise from the room upstairs was ridiculous. They said they couldn't move us as there was no availability. They would've charged us an extra €50 though and said because we booked on Booking.com and not directly, our choices wouldn't be as good... we'll not be back.

Beautiful wedding venue. Room cleanliness was ok.

For short of £300 per night. I'd requested a double bed and had a twin bedroom. Some furniture was chipped. There is a smell coming out off the drains after a shower. No view only to the ground floor fire escape stairs so we kept the curtain shut. Extremely noisy room location, near reception and heavy people passage. We could hear every conversations even wispers in the hallway from our bed. Not to mention kids playing in the foyer. The room was not worth what we paid for, at all!!!

We sat down for an evening meal and when we received our starters they were cold

The attitude of managers in the restaurant was nothing short of appalling. We then waited over an hour in our mains and left having not received them. The ‘hot’ breakfast buffet was cold which posed a risk of food poisoning to guests. There was a stained curtain left in a table in the lift to the bedrooms for the duration of our stay. Overall, €260 for one night for 2 people was overpriced as the hotel itself is outdated and old.

i think the evening food could be better, bigger variety and better quality, service also was not great, even thought the staff were nice. The roast was good and we ate it most nights we stayed but our local pub grub is better and cheaper. On our first night our food arrived within 5 minutes of ordering and was microwave hot, the first night the chicken gougons were also served cold and unheated. The staff are not great, a fault i put on management and not on the staff, they are not trained well. We had to get up and ask for drinks and deserts, no follow up once initial food was served. The fish and chips were awful the second night. I feel a bigger efford could be put into the food, we ate there reluctantly as we had younger kids, otherwise we woluld have gone somewhere else.

rooms were not side by side not even on the same floor. Hotel needs to be updated, could hear people talking outside in the corridor, and every movement in the room overhead. No phone in the room. The lawn was been mowed at 8 am on Sunday morning. Impossible to get a car parking space.

Amazing and worth every penny. Please don’t change anything your amazing group of people

The property was so beautiful, and it always made you feel like you where at home. It is big and spacious. From the moment we checked in till the moment we checked out it was amazing I cannot fault anything on the northern hotel. From the staff all the way up to managers they were amazing. If you have a indigenoused or diagnosed child with a medical condition the northern hotel is the place to be. They make you feel your apart of them and the hotel is yours to. Any problem you had the front desk always went out of there way to help you with that problem and never had an attitude or a face on them. I found a problem with the cold tap in the bathroom and rang down to let them know only 2 minutes of me putting the phone down they were at my door and apologizing the other time I went down to front desk and like that oh I am so sorry let me get that fixed for you. My partner is in a wheelchair for long distance and the hotel was more than adequate to cope with it. Oh don’t get me started on the food, it was amazing just out of this world. I could never fault the food and the food portions were great you could get 1 dinner for 2 people. I cannot even remember any other hotel that we have stayed in that was so helpful and pleasant to help. They were so understanding of our circumstances with our child been autistic and so patient with him and really interacting with he loved it never met a hotel like it. When we were checking out we were looking for a taxi the normal taxi the hotel uses was not working. The other girl went out of her way to ring I think her dad as he is a taxi driver to try and get us a taxi. We have never experienced that before people going out of there way to help us in a hotel stay. I wanna say thank you to Alannah, Kayleigh, and the other 2 girls that I forget there names.

Hotel is currently going through renovations, the reception, bar and function rooms look really great.

The bedrooms, leisure centre, and dining/breakfast rooms are quite dated and in need of modernising. All areas are nice and clean.

Location is the best thing about this hotel, the views are great

Very dated property. It could do with a paint and a revamp. Our room was very small, no air con and no fridge. Pillows were very thin. Some staff could be rude at times and unhelpful. Although We had a lovely lady on check out. Very expensive stay for what you’re getting.
