O Veleiro Bed and Breakfast

Super cute location and accommodation on a tiny hill with great views. Comfortable, clean rooms with private or shared bathrooms. Super friendly host / owner who knows a lot about Brazil / Rio and helpful in booking tours with his connections. Very nice, basic breakfast available.

Short 10 mins walk to commercial area due to hill location (but fast, easy for taxis / ubers). If you choose to walk, it is pleasant and safe. Wifi is a bit slow on 3rd floor.

A beautiful B&B run by a lovely couple, offering much more of a boutique hotel experience than a simple place to stay. Tucked away on a lush hillside, the property feels like a peaceful little oasis, offering absolute tranquillity at night. You might even spot some wildlife wandering around the property, which makes the setting feel even more special. Rob and Richard were fantastic hosts, full of interesting stories and always happy to share their local knowledge and useful tips for exploring Rio. Breakfast was another highlight – absolutely fabulous, with delicious food freshly prepared by their chef. Such a lovely way to start each morning!

There was a minor issue with the Wi-Fi during our stay, as it wasn’t working in our room. However, it was available in other areas of the property, so it wasn’t too much of an inconvenience.

It is a beautiful retreat from the busy city, with amazing views, delicious breakfast and very relaxing. Rob and Ricardo were so helpful. We loved lying in the hammocks and seeing the tortoises in the garden!

Nothing really! It takes a while to get Ubers up the hill, but Ubers are so cheap in Rio and we were glad we didn’t stay in one of the busier neighbourhoods

Friendly hosts that do their best to make you feel home and provide tips. Generally good breakfast with eggs, bread and fresh juice every day.

While being helpful the host also came across a bit too much when it comes to providing safety tips. I was told several times not to wear my over the shoulder bag (even through the microphone of the camera doorbell on the street while waiting for an uber which felt a bit creepy). Bugs/ants found their way to my room. At least the room was equipped with an anti-bug spray. Not every uber knows the location which makes it a drag sometimes to get transport because of canceled rides. Most of the time I made the walk down the hill to start the day. The room was very hot without AC. I slept better on the rainy days. With the shower being directly next to the bed the room was also quite humid. The ceiling fan was dusty, I had to remove dust from my bed several times.
