Nice last minute find during Carnaval

Rob and Richard were wonderful hosts, great to chat to (Rob has some great travel stories!) and very accommodating/helpful with whatever you needed. The location is safe and quiet up a hill, but it's easy enough to walk down to the main area in Botafogo in just over 10 minutes via a couple of sets of stairs, and taxis/ubers are also easy enough to get back at the end of a long day. The breakfast every day was fresh, plentiful and varied, and the room itself had everything you needed and a comfy bed. Would definitely stay here again!

The hidden oasis in Botafogo! 🌴🐒🦋🇺🇸

O Veleiro is unique. A wonderful location where you can feel the true vibe of Brazil. Fantastic gardens with wonderful bird,insect,monkey & beautiful flora and fauna. Gorgeous pool area, outside kitchen for drinks hot or cold & fridge with available bottled water or beer! Our room was lovely.My daughter and I had a room on pool level.Small basin in room and just outside our room on the terrace a seperate bathroom with another basin, toilet & shower. Hairdryer available & sosp shampoo & conditioner provided. Air conditioning available and good choice of lighting. Beds & pillows were very comfortable a good nights sleep was had on our 3 night stay. Open hanger space & drawers for personal clothes and belongings. A safe is available. The sound of Brazil was apparent daily and you could hear music early evening from the terrace to make even more authentic,lovely to lounge in one of the terrace hammocks & take it all in. Breakfast was good, you could choose a seperate table or sit with other guests,which we prefer! Great to meet new people & share travel or daily trip experiences. Fresh bread & rolls daily . Cheese , ham,crackers, fruit yoghurt and fresh cooked eggs to order.Delicious! Even got to watch monkeys play from the balcony!🐒 Coffee,choice of teas, hot chocolate,fresh bottled water and local fruit juice which tastes so good. A fabulous place to stay and Rob was a great host,friendly and helpful & really informative-great! If wanting a guide whilst staying ask Rob if he can support you,his knowledge of the area is tremendous. Rob also informed us of E.Sim cards for our phones which were invaluable on our stay as we were travelljng around a lot and needed it for ordering Uber taxis,which were so cheap & reliable, as could not guarantee wifi where we were. Only point to note there are steep steps up to the first terrace and more steps to access reception.

Good facilities but the experience was destroyed by the owner.

The location is good, the facilities are fair

The owner insisted that we pay cash. He insisted so strongly that I would call it borderline harassment. When we left the rooms for an hour for breakfast only, he complained if we left the Aircon running which is also weird.

I loved the location, the breakfasts, Rob, and the general sense of peace and beauty found at this place. It is exactly what I wanted - a quiet retreat that could serve as a base to see Rio, without breaking the bank or making me feel like I was in an unsafe area. Just excellent.

Tte property is located in a green area but very close to the centre of Rio by taxi, which is a great advantage. Loved my room and the setting in a beautiful garden with pool.

The B & B is in a quiet and safe neighborhood which is ideal for single travelers.

Breakfast was freshly made and delicious every day. The whole house and property were kept clean daily. Advice was kindly offered and gratefully accepted. It was obvious to me that the owners have made great efforts to make their home comfortable and lovingly maintained.

A wonderful stay that felt just like home.

We absolutely loved our stay at O Veleiro! It was such a pleasure meeting Rob and Richard – they were incredibly kind and welcoming. Our room, right by the pool, was simple yet very comfortable and private. We truly felt at home and would love to stay with them again someday.

A wonderful stay

A wonderful spot in Rio with a lush green garden and lovely surroundings with hammocks. The beds are comfortable and the breakfast is brilliant - hot drinks, fresh juice, cereals, eggs, fruit, different types of bread, jam, cheese, ham - plentiful and no need for lunch! There are different types of rooms to suit all budgets, which is great as not all accommodation offers this. You can walk to the nearest restaurants in under 15 minutes or alternatively book an Uber easily and quickly. An added bonus at the B&B is the dog and two pet tortoises :) The owners are friendly, informative and very helpful. They can advise about areas of Rio, specific restaurants, and how to book activities. We had to be at the airport early and so they booked an early-morning taxi for us and provided us with a breakfast to go. Highly recommended!

A beautiful and unique stay with some important drawbacks

The property is beautiful and feels impressively secluded and safe for Rio. The room was spacious, with a large, comfortable bed. The owner was responsive, though not always accommodating. It's a unique accommodation - from the property to the owners, if you're looking for an experience where you get to know the owner and feel like you're in your own Rio villa, then we would recommend. The location is great for relaxing, but less ideal for convenience—you likely won’t be popping back and forth easily. For a future trip, I’d choose a place that’s easier to access.

Check-in and check-out were inconvenient—arrival was only allowed before noon or after 7 p.m., which didn’t align well with our unpredictable travel schedule. The owner did communicate this to us while we still had cancellation option. We also couldn’t leave our bags past 4:30 p.m. on check-out day, which was earlier than ideal for our evening flight. Despite the remote setting, noise was an issue: loud cars and trucks driving by on the cobblestone road, barking neighborhood dogs in the morning, and frequent plane traffic overhead. The bathroom was technically private (standard room) but located outside the room, which felt awkward at night. It wasn't inaccurately advertised, but it was a bit misleading.

A hidden gem

Friendly, knowledgeable hosts, lovely accommodation, a little oasis of calm in a bustling city. We really enjoyed our stay. Rob has a wealth of local knowledge and is happy to give advice about places to visit and local transport options. The walk to the nearest restaurants and shops is only 10 minutes. Breakfast is lovely , the best scrambled eggs!

A property full of character in an elevated location.

If you looking for accommadation with lots of character then this is the place for you. Breakfast was very good, fresh and cooked as required. The outside 'help yourself' bar was a nice touch. The host, Rob, was very helpful and informative. He also gave us a lovely tour of the attreactions we wanted to visit. His contact skills before arriving were top class.

Worse than it seems

Friendly hosts that do their best to make you feel home and provide tips. Generally good breakfast with eggs, bread and fresh juice every day.

While being helpful the host also came across a bit too much when it comes to providing safety tips. I was told several times not to wear my over the shoulder bag (even through the microphone of the camera doorbell on the street while waiting for an uber which felt a bit creepy). Bugs/ants found their way to my room. At least the room was equipped with an anti-bug spray. Not every uber knows the location which makes it a drag sometimes to get transport because of canceled rides. Most of the time I made the walk down the hill to start the day. The room was very hot without AC. I slept better on the rainy days. With the shower being directly next to the bed the room was also quite humid. The ceiling fan was dusty, I had to remove dust from my bed several times.

Most highly recommend this welcoming and homey bed and breakfast to all explorers of Rio.

The breakfast was phenomenal and kept us satisfied all day. Our hosts were delightful and extremely helpful always giving recommendations and advice. The location is refreshing and peaceful after a day of exploration. There is a lot of typical vegetation and the pets, including the tortoise are always entertaining.

A little tropical paradise in the heart of Rio

Rob and Richard were very welcoming and helpful throughout the stay. Breakfast was delicious- fresh juice, fruit and hot options each morning. The location was very central to the majority of the main attractions and in a saw and quiet neighbourhood.

The first time I stepped in the gate, I knew I was in the right place.The neighborhood, the street, the garden all made me so relax. Then I met the owner Rob, he was so nice, warm, friendly and helpful, just like a brother next door. He introduced his family members to me. A black cat,a white dog and two turtles. I felt immediately I arrived home. My room was comfy, I had my own bath room and my own sitting room and mini bar. Everything Rob offered to me is more then I expected. Next morning I had a excellent breakfast in the dinning room. Richard served the breakfast. He was also very nice.just like Rob. From dinning room balcony, I can see the whole garden and the mountain view. It's beautiful environment surrounding me. Rob gave me a lot of tour tips. It's very useful. Thank you Rob. If there are six stars, I will give this B and B Hotel six stars.

Awesome Experience in Río.

Absolutely everything, Robin and Richard are the Best host i have ever had. We spent new year celebration and Robin took the time to take US to all guest to the beach and provided the metro ticket at an afforable rate. They explain everything You need to know about Rio de Janeiro. Where to go where to eat. Etc. 100 percent recomended for our first time in Rio. The breakfast is amazing...they personally prepare the breakfast and take it to You...that never happends in a bed and breakfast...You have a complete meal to start your day with energy. They clean your room daily...and chance the sheets and towels....5 stars service in all details.

I enjoyed my stay very much. I stayed for one week and everything was perfect. The place was amazing and the breakfast very tasty with fresh local frood. Rob and Richard were very helpful, I was travelling alone and they supported me on everything i needed. After i left i forgot smth in the room, and they even helped me getting it back. After one week it felt already like home. If i come back this will be my choice again :).

Made our experience much better than expected!!

The best bed and breakfast!! Amazing breakfast with fruits from the garden. The garden was even nicer than in the pictures. Waking up to animal sounds and the lush garden was fantastic!! The best thing about the whole place is Rob and Richard who are always cheerful, helpful and have lots of good tips that made our stay even better than expected!

The breakfast is wonderful. Each day the hosts create a different choice of eggs, fruits, fresh fruit juices, etc. The B&B is wonderfully done and very well managed. The neighbourhood is probably one of the safest of Rio and the hosts are full of great tips.

Excellent place to connect with the real Brazilian environment

The atmosphere was excellent, you have a direct connection with nature and from there you can see the main attractions of Río de Janeiro.

The house is not that close to a public transport station, you have to walk or ask for Uber, but it is manageable.

After a winding road up into the hills behind Botafogo, O Veleiro is a mini home from home. The location is great, nice and quiet, Rob and the team are super friendly, Luna the pup is the cherry on top.

The place was very lovely, charming and calm, pretty well located for Rio. Rob, our host was very available for helping or answering any question we had. Besides the breakfast was fresh and room very clean (cleaned every day).
