Le Petit Palace Hotel - Special Category

The Hotel is in a great position, one street behind a main busy street where the trams run making local public transport accessible to explore other parts of Istanbul but far enough away to not be able to hear the trams, it’s also equal distance between Hagia Sophia and Galata bridge which is literally 10 minutes walk away. The hotel rooms are more than large enough, spotlessly clean and sound proofed, the hotel staff are amazing and could not be more friendly and helpful Hamit advised us on what number buses to catch when we had an adventure to Chora museum to see the mosaics. The breakfast facilities were very good we had omelettes, fruit drinks, coffee and pastries every morning. There is also a Hamam (Turkish Bath) on site which was excellent, the whole process is carried out discreetly and professionally, I would thoroughly recommend trying one.

If you want be in the heart of the Old City then this is a great spot as it is close to all the attractions as well as public transport. The hotel and rooms were clean and serviced daily. The Bed was comfortable. There was a lady who worked at the front desk who was very friendly, accommodating and made us feel welcome.

The hotel cannot guarantee your room preference in advance and even though we asked for 2 twin rooms, when we arrived we were advised that they did not have 2 twin rooms for us and the best they could do was to put my 2 young teenage sons in a room in another building as they really didn't want to share a small double bed. The rooms in the main hotel are pretty small, breakfast is mediocre, and the guy working at the front desk is arrogant, unfriendly and unhelpful. The hotel knows they have your payment before you arrive so feel they can do as they please, and treat you as they want as they already have the money. It was not a great experience, but my impression is that what we experienced is the norm in this part of town, and in future will stay on the Galata Tower side of town to avoid this type of "tourist trap". This Hotel was our last stop on a 5 week holiday in Europe and was the worst hotel we had stayed at, even though the price was similar to other Hotels we had stayed at.
