Very friendly, down to earth hosts - very welcoming. Food (dinner and breakfast) amazing. Good "home cooked" restaurant food, not pretentious, wholesome, good prices and lots of it!
Everything was good.

A really great find and perfect for a quiet stay. The fire in the hallway was a wonderful welcome on a cold December day, the rooms are really spacious and well furnished, the bathroom is fantastic with a lovely Roman bath style tap system and the breakfast was exceptional, especially the bacon and tatty scone!
Nothing. The unfinished building work at the side of the property is a bit off putting but completely understandable as they are extending the property. It will be fabulous as a conference centre when done.

It’s friendly and cozy. Staff are wonderful, food is excellent, rooms are clean and comfortable. The best breakfast and the menu for the evening is fantastic. It’s cooked to perfection. This was the second time we stayed there, and we will be back.

The Location close centre
The Breakfast slightly limited in choice.

Simple, filling food. We really enjoyed some whisky in their sitting room. A very peaceful location and good views across the countryside.
The beds were hard and the ambiance felt slightly stuck in the last century. Regardless, preferable to a standard chain

The room was huge compared to modern chain hotels. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The rainforest shower didn't have a good water flow, it was too diffuse and ended up soaking the bathroom floor but missing me.

Lovely twin room for me and my daughter, comfortable beds, quiet surroundings, my daughter especially liked the hot chocolate that was available. It was spacious for the two of us, clean and a hot shower. The staff were lovely, asking us how we were doing and seemed interested in why we were down in Dumfries. They were also a bit upset that I hadn't taken my dog to visit. Maybe next time.
The only downside was when I booked the hotel through booking.com. I had asked if I could take my dog as there was no option to advised that I would be bringing a pet with me hence, why I sent a message. Because I didn't hear back I did not want to face being refused a stay with her so did not take her. When I mentioned this to them when I arrived they apologised for not getting a response.

Very nice hotel with good dining
The reason for my delay in completing this survey is due to me waiting on an accident report being sent to me. This report is a record of an accident I had whilst having a bath. I have not received this report. I incurred an injury from this accident. The hotels response to my accident was very poor and due to my fall in the bath the whole bathroom was flooded. The hotel member of staff informed us he would send a staff member to tidy the flood up

The coffee brand was quite good.
The service was friendly and relatively quick.
As a borderline diabetic, I have to keep my carbohydrates down and my protein high. The toast and fried bread was white bread (high Gi). The ratio of meat to the sausage was questionable.
There was no natural yoghurt (No added sugar).

Breakfast was well cooked, presented and value for money. Dinner menu was very varied and competitively priced and presentation was excellent. Delicious food. Staff were very attentive and pleasant.
Just a very minor point. It would have been nice to have a menu in the room in order to anticipate what you would like to eat but this is just a very, very minor point.

Beautiful driveway, staff are warm and friendly. The food was amazing and delicious. Rooms were warm and comfortable. Our dog was made very welcome.
The back of the hotel is very rundown and tatty, and we looked out onto a building site. We can see what they are planning to do in the future.

Everything. Such a lovely family run hotel….all of the staff were friendly, polite and helpful. Our room was spacious, clean and beautifully decorated. The bathroom was very large with high quality fixtures. Communal areas were tastefully decorated and in keeping with such a beautiful building. The breakfasts were excellent …everything freshly cooked to order. The menu for lunch and dinner was extensive and all the meals we had there were perfectly cooked and delicious with great service. Highly recommend this hotel. Will stay again if ever back in the area.
Nothing…others in reviews have complained about the scaffolding to one side of the building but it’s really no big deal and doesn’t affect anything at the hotel.

The roast dinner evening meal was delicious .
After a lovely evening meal, we were looking forward to a nice cooked breakfast. It was awful; the bacon was a weird colour and tasted off, which put me off the rest of the breakfast. When I said this to the owner she didn’t offer to make me anything else!
The drive up to the hotel , looks lovely on the pictures, but does not show the old steel building work to the right of the house, that looks as though it’s been there for ever, an eye sore. I felt disappointed to what we had booked!

Fortunately this hotel had a lift which so many properties do not in the UK. Everything was clean and tidy. The breakfast was satisfactory and we ate dinner there one night as well. That too was good.
The property may have been a little out of the way, but I’m not familiar with the area so it might have been okay. Although the parking lot was fairly large, each morning it was full to the brim (morning conferences?) and at one point we almost couldn’t get our vehicle out because of someone parked directly behind us. Lastly, our shower was a nightmare. Plenty of hot water. But the amount of spray coming out of the head was too great for the halfdoor attached to the tub. It was an excessive amount of spray and ungodly amount of steam so that everything in the bathroom was soaked including the floor. We couldn’t keep anything in the bathroom.

Lovely comfy rooms
Lovely grounds
Dog friendly rooms
There is no breakfast/ dining area where dogs are allowed so we had to go out for dinner as I can’t leave the dog on his own in an unfamiliar place and put him in the car whilst we ate breakfast - thankfully it wasn’t too warm so that was an option but having a way to eat with the dog would be appreciated.

Location. Beautiful entrance hall. Greeting upon checkin and offer to carry my carryon. Large room and bathroom.
My husband said the steak was the best he had eaten in Scotland. Delightful owner who served us breakfast.
Hot tap in bathroom turns the wrong way. Be careful not to turn either tap on too far or you will be sprayed.

I had an accident in the bath. There are no safety grips anywhere. The height of the bath prevented my 83 year old wife having a shower. When I sfipped in the bath I banged my elbow resulting on a bleeding elbow. I asked the member of staff if he had a first aid kit with plasters/bandage for my elbow. His response was no we don’t have anything like that!!! In fact he showed no compassion whatsoever for my condition resulting from my fall. I also could not get the water to drain from the bath. I called reception for help. A member of staff arrived within 5 minutes. He obviously had come across this problem before and managed to release the water from the bath. When I fell there was quite a lot of water spilled out of the bath. We were told someone would come and clean up and with new towels but nobody came. My wife was afraid to use the bathroom unaccompanied due the wet floor

This is an undiscovered gem. A 18th century country house in its own grounds a couple of miles from Dumfries, Breakfast and dinner exceptional. Plentiful parking. A great place to lose yourself in and shut yourself away from the outside world

Friendly staff, well appointed and clean accommodations, breakfast was tasty, bar service was satisfactory for our needs. Standard double was roomy and comfortable.
Photos of the property did not show the old metal framing to the side of the hotel that is unfortunately quite an eyesore when you arrive. It seems to have been there for quite some time, and would be best served to be removed as it distracts from the attractiveness of the property. It did not take away from our experience, but it is not a good look for such a nice property.
The bed was a bit firm for our liking, but was tolerable after the first night.

It was in a quiet setting, surrounded by lawns and gardens, with excellent parking and level access from the side of the hotel, which was a big help for my friend who has mobility issues. The room was large and comfortable. The staff were really helpful, welcoming and friendly. It is family run and it felt like they enjoy welcoming guests. The food and service both at breakfast and the evening meal were of a high quality. My friend and I stayed for a few nights at the start of our holiday in Scotland and then again for one night en route home at the end. The second visit felt like we had come home. We couldn’t have had a better experience in any aspect.
Nothing.
