What a gem! I needed a room for 1 night while attending horse racing at Saratoga. Hotel prices in Saratoga are out of sight during racing season. I was able to get a beautiful, clean and comfortable room at Alpenhaus for $99. The owner is very friendly and courteous. I would definitely recommend staying here!

Found this place by accident, really. I was scrolling through some cheap hotels and this one caught my eye. A bit skeptical at first having read the reviews, but I took a chance. For under $200 with taxes and fees for a single Saturday night stay at last minute, I couldn't find any place around that was decent for the price. But, I took a chance and it worked out for me. 4/5 - Clean room. Had an off-smell to it at first, but that faded away. So, I'm not holding that against them. Cleanliness of the room overall was good! Even pulled the night stand out and found that it was clean behind it. 5/5 - Bathroom was clean. Toilet, sink and shower were nice. Door in the bathroom was a bit rough to open and close. Made a rough wood on wood sound when closing it that I feared would annoy the neighboring room (sorry if it did!). But, it's not a breaker for the price of the room! 3/5 - AC unit was bad. Idk if it was just me, or just this one, but I couldn't get the unit to pump out enough cold air to cool the room. Seemed to be stuck on low when it said high. But, all-in-all, it wasn't too bad. Might be bad on a very hot summer day, but it was fairly cool outside during my mid-September stay. So the AC helped keep it cool throughout the night. I did end up wrapping up in the blanket later in the night. (AC was set to 63°F). 4/5 - Had in room mini fridge and microwave. That was nice! A mini coffee maker, too! None of which I used. They were unplugged and ready to be used if needed. The fridge was left cracked open, so there was no foul smells coming from that (I checked that to be sure that wasn't the off smell I smelled earlier). 5/5 - Location was superb! Right on the main road, which, surprisingly wasn't too loud! There's a turning lane that starts right out front of the place. It's across from Hobby Lobby and Home Depot, next door to Walmart, and just a quick shot to Texas Roadhouse. On top of it, I wasn't met with any transients in the area. Up the road was Six Flags and all the shopping stores just up past that in Lake George. Less than a 5-10 min drive, depending on traffic. 5/5 - I had almost 0 road noise from within the room throughout the night. No loud truckers, no fast cars zipping by, no sirens rushing by... You know what I mean! 5/5 - Lighting in the room was awesome! There were plenty of lights to turn on in the room to see, so it never felt dark in the room. 5/5 - Staff... Now, I'll be honest... I only met the guy at the front desk while checking in and that was it. But, he was extremely kind to me and treated me with the same respect I gave him, as I would expect from anyone. He wasn't rude. He wasn't sarcastic. Just a genuinely nice guy who was accommodating to his guests. If more hotel owners had people like this, reviews for staff would be taken much more seriously. Overall, the guy was a great addition to the business! Now, the nitty gritty: The biggest issue I had with the room... There was no plug close enough to me in bed to plug in my cellphone. There's one behind the night stand that the room phone and the clock plugged in to. I unplugged the clock to plug in my charger and that was fine. To be quite honest, this is what really brought my review down in star rating. There was nothing on the bed stand to plug my phone in to to charge like almost every other place I've stayed in. Overall, this was a nice "mom and pop" place to stay at! I really liked the old craftsman exterior to the place. Really made it feel comfortable to me. I'm definitely going to be staying here again in the future with disregard to the negative reviews from years past. Definitely a 4.5 star rating kind of place overall.

Clean but antiquated. Towels are clean but very rough and thin. Worst towels I've ever experienced.
