Hotel Épik Montréal

Lovely old hotel positioned in the middle of the action although very quiet overnight. Wonderful staff with special mention to Michael & Catherine who are exceptional receptionists and welcomers. Rooms are consistent with an older property, tastefully decorated, although a little smaller than usual, totally clean. As others before us, we found the bed to be quite soft and arguably a little old. Having said this, the bathroom is a great size with a wonderful shower. The restaurant and bar appear to be managed by different operators and some disjointing is apparent. Nevertheless, pleasant atmosphere in both.

Breakfast is quite basic and comes in a box with a pastry and a bag of nuts. Coffee in the flasks can be luke warm so probably best to find breakfast elsewhere. Don’t expect views from the room, old part of the city with tightness of buildings.

This is a cute small hotel which affords attention to detail and personal service to customers. Parking was next to the hotel, fair fee and 24/7 safe security.

No issues. Great hotel.

Réception host very pro and friendly

Since my room was next to lobby, door lacks sound insulation. Instructions for breakfast : room service at 10am were not followed. I had to call reception at 10:15 to inquire about my breakfast. Breakfast was eventually delivered to room.

Room - and hotel overall - felt a little dated. I also fell ill at the property and was confined to my room for most of my stay, sadly. I found that I had to keep explaining to each new staff member over the phone that I was dealing with intense food poisoning in my room and needed - for example - more water or a different breakfast*, to which their responses varied from actual concern to a shrug of the shoulders. A shout out to the night security guard who at least phoned my room an hour or so after I first reported my illness to make sure I was doing OK. Otherwise - given that housekeeping is optional - I had the feeling that I could have honestly suffered a health emergency here and no one would have noticed until it was time to check out, which was truly scary. Some kind of system to check on sick guests is needed. *The breakfast is also nothing to write home about, and the hotel wasn't even able to provide a slice of toast or bread when I was struggling to keep food down, because they buy in the croissants and whatnot in advance.
