In general it was bad experience, the room was too hot and someone put his phone while it was charging on the bed assigned to me , I think the pillow case and blanket and bed stuff were used and wasn’t new and washed, they have to provide towel, shampoo and soap for the guest but instead you have to pay for those that wasn’t the thing I expected, there was no cooking items inside the kitchen.
Almost everything!

Could book so quick, even so late on the day (I booked around 6 pm and arrived by 9:45 pm)
Staff was great, available anytime. Even if my phone died and I forgot the pin to get in!
You have more than the basic. And it's so close to the skyline, and great coffee shops. also the library!!
The beds are quite uncomfortable, and the pillows were really flat.
And just in the outside there were mattress tossed in the frontward.
Looked like if they were trash for any infestation or smth, even closed in plastic.
Upstairs are very noisy, and the walls are very thin I could hear outside noise at night.

I feel like I've been scamed (and my roommate too) : on booking, there were 2 ads :
- 1 of 50€ for a single bed in dormitory (10 beds) = regular price + photo of the dormitory
- 1 of 43€ for a double bed in private room = discount price + photo of the double bed. Only 1 offer left !
So I thought I was lucky to have such an opportunity ! but when I arrive, my room was the dormitory where I had to choose 1 bed among the 10.
+ The annonce had disappeared and the one regarding the dormitory indicated 43€ instead of 50€ (as a regulat price) . And it left so many beds free and not occupied.

Location was very bang for the buck. It was very clean and met our needs.
The location was very difficult to find in the night. The road is extremely dark during night hours.

The best part about Vancouver Backpacker House was the friendly faces both from Max, the manager and Nancy the caretaker. They were very helpful and lovely to chat with. Nancy especially made me feel very welcomed in a city I was new to.
The other guests are what truly makes a hostel experience worthwhile. I was introduced to many lovely folk and despite not being in the heart of downtown, Burnaby is still a side of BC I was happy to call my temporary home.
Admittedly due to the age of a place like this, the walls were quite thin and hard to adjust to at first.

It's close to the Train/metro (10' walks)
Clearly managed online, and still everything is fee charge, like arriving earlier even if the passcode is set remotely, it's an additional fee, leaving luggage for a the day => fee.
Weird checkin and payment option like transfert not secure or we pay the secure fee (again).

Creepy and horrible. Just some random dilapidated house. Owners will badger you all day and night to send them more money for PayPal fees.

Location was good. Good price.
The property needs some basic updating. The paint is chipping, caulking needs work, rust in the bathroom. One of the basement showers doesn’t drain. There is also no noise insulation. You can hear everything in this property especially the creaky stairs if you are in the basement. Bring ear plugs.

Location is good. But nothing else was as per the price I paid.
The washrooms are too small. There was no on-premises staff. My room was in the basement and the heater wasn't working. It was really cold, plus the dorm beds were really uncomfortable.

The communication with the property manager was very sketchy and chaotic. They wanted me to send my details over text which everyone always warns you about not to do. There were signs all over the house warning about if you smell a gas leak you should let someone know, the window in the bathroom was broken and the room smelled bad. The only thing I expected for this price in Vancouver was that the bed would be bad, which it was!

Host was responsive and friendly (via text message), room was clean, great price, good location.
The self-service lockbox was physically hard to open — it took me several minutes of trying (even with the correct PIN) before I was able to get it to open.

We did our own meal prep from groceries we had purchased.
For a backpacking trip, it was O.K.

Nothing, it was really bad looking
House and rooms were in a really poor condition. There were people having sex and you could hear them as there is NO PRIVACY AT ALL. In addition, for some reason, the owner of the hostel decided to cancel the reservation through the website so he could charge me separately and avoid the fees from the website, this made me feel uncomfortable and unsafe about my banking information. This place was the worst.

Overall is clean. Close to Mall and the Sky train
No personal staff, no toiletries, no towels, plastic cabinet, no chairs only cheap table, no tourist brochure, shared bathroom no lock, they allowed only 2 hrs. Storage if you exceed they charge per luggage 5 dollar per hour, 100 dollar deposit.

The host was nice, the staff have lied and manipulated everyone to think she is doing thjs
They didn't give us our security deposit back because of a stain that was already on the bed when we got there !!! The cleaner is a liar and we are completely frustrated about this.

i didnèt know there was breakfast available, was never mentioned
there were silver fish, i stayed in two rooms the first wedged between the kitchen and a bathroom, the skytrain station was within earshot. moved on 2nd day to a room with a window that opened onto the livingroom so there was nooooooo fresh air. the sheets were not the cleanest. in the first room it was almost as if they hadn't been changed. the second room there was still enough stuff on the top sheet i had to shake it off before using it.
