The location was great

The location is perfect; it's in the heart of Montreal's arts area, easy walking, and access to the public transit. The room I booked looked *amazing*. It looks and feels like a loft studio, with exposed pipes and brick walls. If more care were taken with the furnishings, this would result be a $300/night room.
The downside is that they've used very cheap furnishings in what should be a high-end room. The sofa-bed is worn and not very comfortable to sit on, the mattress is hard (not firm), the shower for is slightly broken, etc.
It's also a bit loud; I was on the 3rd floor overlooking R. St-Catherine, and the music and nose from pedestrians was quite loud.
If the owners got nicer bedding and mattresses, replaced the sofa-bed with a nice sofa, fixed all the small things, it would be exceptional.
As it is, it's very solidly good. I would definitely be comfortable starting 6 here again.

The photos did not accurately display reality. The bed was uncomfortable, there was only a window air conditioner which did not allow for any sound abatement from the street and there were way too many stairs. We stayed about 15 minutes, then booked another hotel even knowing we would lose the money we spent on this one.

It's in a nice central area. So that's good. But the entrance stairwell smells like urine at all times due to the unhoused people that hang around the entrance. The hotel tries to mask it with bleach and cleaner, but you can still smell it. The breakfast is so so.
Staff is great though. Very helpful.
