The staff was very nice. The accommodations were clean and it's just a 10 minute scooter ride to restaurants.

I'd love food to be offered even if just an item or two.

My girlfriend is a complete beginner, while I've been surfing for years, so finding a place that works for both of us isn't easy. Akar nailed it. Telescopes is only a five-minute ride by boat. At high tide it is more a beginner intermediate wave. At low tide it gets more technical, which kept me entertained. When the swell cooperates, there are also two other waves within paddling distance. Julpen is an outstanding surf instructor and surf guide, very respected and most chilled local. The soft tops surfboards for the lessons are brand new, and my girlfriend gained confidence every day while I could head out for more advanced sessions. The bungalows had literally opened the week before we arrived, yet everything already felt well organized. Bungalows are wood and straw roofs, ours looked over the jungle, and surrounded by a lush tropical garden. Breakfast was excellent. The restaurant wasn't open yet, but the chill-out area is accessible, very nice! If you come to Mentawai for waves without giving up comfort and tranquillity, without spending top dollars in all inclusive resorts, this is the place.
