The Neighborhood:
The attractive rural village of Lazonby is situated on the edge of the Eden Valley and North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The River Eden meanders through the bottom of the village and this area is famous for canoeing, trout and salmon fishing together with climbing, walking and cycling. Between Lazonby and Armathwaite is the Eden Gorge, one of Cumbria's best kept secrets which is well worth a visit. Lazonby has a good selection of amenities including a church, two pubs, a supermarket and a post office. There is also a seasonal outdoor swimming pool. The railway station which is part of the Settle-Carlisle Railway line offers a scenic day out. There is also an independent wooden toy shop, Croglin Toys & Designs which is located in the old school (approx. 18th century) which makes bespoke toys and decorative objects such as wooden bunting. The innovative Rheged Centre in Penrith is within easy reach of the village with its exhibitions, large 3D screen, shops, play area and spa. Historic sites include, Long Meg and Her Daughters which is the third largest stone circle in England, and Hadrian’s Wall, both a short drive away. Ullswater, Keswick and Pooley Bridge are all stunning lakeside locations within easy reach. This village is perfectly placed to discover the stunning scenery and many activities the Yorkshire Dales and Lakes District National Parks have to offer.
