The Old Library

Excellent location at the centre of Arisaig, close to the marina, the Spar shop and the Arisaig hotel. Room looks very nice, the bed linen and towels were lovely. The garden outside the rooms is charming. The restaurant is excellent. I would stay again despite the teething problems listed below.

I feel bad about giving a negative review as I know things have not been straightforward for the owner and the person that manages the rooms, however I feel disappointed that this isn’t better than it is. My frustration is compounded by the fact that we have had a few disappointing experiences with Scottish stays recently. We have stayed twice in the last 3 weeks due to the very convenient location for the marina. I gave some of this feedback during the first stay. The bathroom floor was very dirty on our first stay - I dropped something and had a bit of a surprise trying to retrieve it. This was better second time. There was no information about opening times of the restaurant - which turned out to be closed when we were there. Our continental breakfast was fine apart from an empty coffee pot. On the second visit we were told that breakfast is no longer provided. As we had booked bed and breakfast we were disappointed but the manager gave us £10 discount. We had breakfast at the Arisaig hotel instead - continental breakfast costs £5 with options to pay for hot food too. There is no guest information to speak of. A little bit about the Old Library would be nice, especially how to work the heater and restaurant opening times. There are no staff on site unless the restaurant is open. You have to go past smelly bins to get to the rooms. The parking is all on the Arisaig street. No guest parking. Bathroom slightly tired and the shower head could be better. Only one packet of biscuits for 2 people (!). This isn’t a “4 star hotel experience” as described by Booking.com. I think the listing should be more realistic and then guests would be less disappointed. Hoping that these comments help and that this business continues to grow.

Lovely central location. Restaurant wonderful and staff friendly. Views on the drive to this location are worth the journey and near by beaches have to be seen to believe.

The bed was very comfortable and the room was also a good size.

The location was good and the room was good. The breakfast was advertised as a continental breakfast. This consisted of yoghurt topped with granola and a strawberry which was fresh on the Friday and Saturday but unfortunately on the Sunday it was not as I'm guessing it was prepared on the Saturday and the granola was soft/damp. There was croissants which were poor and orange juice which was ok.
