Very quaint place that transported you back in time but with modern facilities.

One of the bedrooms was not air conditioned. The cooling fan wasn’t enough in July heat. The bathroom arrangement was a bit tricky to navigate but it was okay.

Our stay at «By the Palace» was absolutely unforgettable! We loved every single moment of it. Staying in this beautiful traditional hanok in the heart of Bukchon was such a unique and special experience. It felt like we had the incredible opportunity to step back in time and experience what life in a traditional Korean home must have been like. The atmosphere, the architecture, the charm everything was simply magical and so authentically Korean. We would come back! ❤️🇰🇷

Very Clean, Very well located and a great host.

All the equipment was korea so getting them to work was confusing. But most of it was iOT so the host ran them remotely.

The hanok was great, contained everything we needed, was in a nice part of Bukchon hanok village - striking distance without being in the thick of it. Easily serviced by a 02 green bus if we wanted to get around, or a 7-8 minute walk to the train station if we just missed the bus. Has everything needed for us being a family of 4 with 2 kids. Might struggle with two groups of adults as there's only 1 proper shower and bathroom, the other room has one but it is an all in one so everything will get wet if you used it as a shower rather than just a restroom. They provided us with face masks and tea on arrival which was a nice touch. They also accommodated an early check-in since our flight came in early in the morning, so we were able to leave our bags with them, change and sightsee while they finished getting the place ready. The owners were responsive when we needed anything (which was just once during our stay). Best of all, it had a washing machine for laundry! Aircons in several rooms too - which I hear can be an issue in Korean accommodation, including hotels. Very much needed with the hot days we had whilst there.

If you wanted to cook a proper meal you probably don't have enough gear in the kitchen, but fine if you're just cooking up some noodles and nothing all that fancy. The shower isn't properly sealed so some water runs into the toilet section, but that's a very minor issue. Oh and it was hard to get streaming services like Netflix set up - but we were out mostly whilst there, so not an issue for us and we just watched youtube to keep the kids entertained when necessary.
