The selling points for this apartment were the location, the view of the sea and the wonderfully cooling air-conditioning in the blazing summer. My plans had changed and I booked it very last minute, so I had limited choices. The building is right on the promenade and there is a beach just across the street. The rental agency was very quick to answer my questions. I didn't use either, but there is a washing machine and dish washer.

The management company or owner really need to evaluate their cleaning service. There were crumbs on tables in the kitchen and in the toaster; the floors were rather dirty. One of the 2 light bulbs in the bathroom mirror was burned out. Someone's underwear was in left in the bathroom bureau (!) The wallpaper is peeling in the bathroom and shower ceiling. This was my 3rd vacation rental in the area in as many weeks, so I had a lot of examples of other rentals with which to compare this apartment. The mattress is rather thin and short (I'm 5'10" and my feet stuck out over the end) and is supported not by a box spring, but by this sort of platform under the mattress in the middle. One night I leaned over the edge, and the whole mattress nearly toppled over. There were scant instructions or details -- there was a very dense, handwritten note in French and cursive in the entryway which might have been instructions, but it was difficult to read. The unit was a good size and had a nice balcony that would have been wonderful to utilize in less hot and humid conditions. There are no window drapes or blinds so the light comes in with the sunrise -- pack a sleep mask. Also, the awning over the balcony terrace was faded and ripped and I don't think there was a way to lower it (may have been missing its crank). After staying in 2 prior places (and writing this from a 4th) where the owners of the units went above and beyond, it felt as it no one really cared much about this unit or the renters' experience. Finally, I don't believe this was disclosed up front but happy to be corrected if I am wrong -- one has to pick up the keys to the unit from the rental agency in Menton, which is about a 15 minute walk or 7 minute drive from the apartment; and you also have to return the keys to the agency after the stay. This would be an annoyance if under any kind of time crunch to make a train or flight, for example.
