Flat Alfama - Beside the Santa Luzia Viewpoint

Overall our stay was average, with many great highlights but also several noticeable downsides to mention. Pros: First off, the location is unbeatable, the biggest plus of this apartment. It’s within a 5–15 minutes’ walking distance to Miradouro de Santa Luzia, Miradouro da Graça and Miradouro das Portas do Sol, perfect for anyone wanting to explore Alfama’s iconic viewpoints on foot. Even during Festa de Santo António, the area wasn’t overly loud at night, though sound insulation is quite thin. Check-in process was totally seamless and hassle-free. The kitchen is spacious, tidy and fully functional, great if you plan to cook simple meals yourself. The decor is full of authentic local Portuguese style, which we loved. Our host was incredibly warm, friendly and responsive; all messages got replied to promptly when we had questions.

Cons: The advertised size of over 50㎡ does not seem to match reality - the flat only feels around 30㎡, much smaller than expected. The bathroom is cramped with barely any extra space. Basic toiletries and disposable slippers are not provided, so we needed to bring our own, which was not huge but good to have in mind. We ran into a frustrating hot water issue: after roughly 20 minutes of a continuous showering for the second person, the water turned cold with no warm water left. There were tiny flying bugs lingering around the flat throughout our stay, likely due to the old building structure. We were also caught off guard on check-out day. Official check-out time was 11 AM, yet cleaning staff knocked on our door 30–40 minutes early while we were still packing all our luggage, which felt rushed and awkward.

We had a fantastic 3-night stay! From the start, the communication was seamless—the hosts provided clear instructions that made check-in a breeze. ​The Location & Atmosphere The location is unbeatable; we had grocery stores, local restaurants, and tram and bus stops right on our doorstep. The front of the flat looks out over a charming, narrow, traffic-free cobbled alley. We loved the "happy street atmosphere" with restaurant tables spilling out below, but if you want silence, the double glazing shuts out the sound. While the flat is only one flight up, there is a lift available, which is a rare and welcome bonus for Alfama! ​The Flat Inside, the apartment is incredibly well-thought-out. The bedroom is located at the back of the property; while it faces a wall and has no view, it is lovely and quiet, ensuring an excellent, peaceful night's sleep. The bed was very comfortable with good quality linens. ​Amenities The hosts have thought of everything: ​Essentials: Tea, coffee, sugar, and toiletries were all there when we arrived. ​Tech: The WiFi was strong and the Smart TV was a great addition. ​Bonus Features: A powerful hairdryer and a washing machine made our stay very convenient. ​If you're looking for a stress-free, well-equipped stay in the most authentic part of Lisbon, I cannot recommend this place enough!

Having a lift is a great feature for this area, though it was unfortunately out of order for the first two days of our stay. As the flat is only one flight up, it wasn't a major issue for us, but worth noting. And obviously out of the control of the hosts Living Area: While the rest of the flat was very comfortable, the sofa wasn't quite as cozy for us as the bed for lounging. A good reason to be out exploring. The alleyway is very old, traditional, and has a bit of a scruffy, "lived-in" look, which is typical for the historic district. However, it felt very safe and the atmosphere from the nearby restaurants was lovely. Don't be put off by high expectations of pristine buildings and airbrushed streets. It has character, and is really lovely here.
