Tuibird Retreat

Good value place to stay, not far from Onetangi Beach (about a 10 minute walk). The buses go fairly regularly from Onetangi Beach and there is a handy 4 square also within walking distance. Good location although the steep driveway and amount of stairs up to the property might be off putting for some people. It was ok for us. The house has everything you need and suited our small family.

A native weka visited the outside deck. The house was clean.

There were very bad mosquitoes because the house is high up in the bush. We had to leave a day early due to severe bites. The screens on the windows weren’t effective enough. With no air cooler apart from a small fan, we got very hot keeping the windows & doors closed to keep out the mosquitoes. I also feel there should be an indication about climbing a large number of steps up to the house. Carrying luggage up would be very difficult for more senior visitors. And also hard for us with a baby.
