梅の宿 Umenoya 小田原城5分箱根15分城下町と温泉を愉しむ東海道の古民家ステイ PC1

This property suited our family group of 5 adults. The location is close to the railway station which allowed us to explore the wider area. It is a short walk to Odawara castle. All the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was great and appeared brand new and it was convenient to have a second toilet in the property. The kitchen was very well equipped and had lots for crockery and cutlery. The property is tucked away down the side of a shop but the details provided by the owner were very helpful. We also used the details provided by the owner to help us locate luggage lockers at the station on the day we arrived in Odawara. The sweets left for us were a nice welcome gift.

The kitchen sink is a bit dated and hard to keep clean. We are all tall (180-195cm). We had to duck through all of the doorways which is part of the charm of the property. However, we also had to duck to avoid the lamp with a glass shade on the passageway between the bedrooms. For any other tall visitors, the property would be improved by changing this lampshade to a paper one or by raising the lamp.

Finally I had time to share my views on our stay. The rooms are clean, comfortable with appointed space for use. The kitchen is quite well equipped. The accommodation is within walking distance about 8 mins -10 mins depending on your pace. On the last day of our stay, I had accidentally broken a small dish while washing, but the owner was kind and didn't penalize me for it. That's a nice gesture. Well appreciated. Will consider coming back during another time of the year if we are going to Odawara again.

The downside of the stay is as follows:- 1) The tap of the kitchen sink was a bit low, kinda challenging to wash dishes without backache and pausing. 2) The kitchen is kinda cold during winter. 3) There is no dryer to dry clothes. The washer's dryer mode is only for hanging dry. So it will take a day or two to be dry during the winter season. So be mindful of that. Despite the downside, we are happy with the stay. :)
