About this house rental
Attention train lovers! Enjoy the elegance of Hinton’s past in our lovingly preserved 1916 brick home, across the street from the Hinton train station and steps from the historic downtown.
Spend the day hiking in New River Gorge National Park, Bluestone Lake or Pipestem Resort State Parks - all within 20 minutes - and spend the evening listening to songs on our vintage jukebox. Relax on one of the three porches, listen to the river and watch the trains, while petting one of the friendly neighborhood cats!
The New River Railhouse is 3 bedrooms and 1.5 baths, located just across the street from the Hinton train station and adjacent to the train tracks. There are outdoor spaces galore, with a front porch, complete with porch swing, screened-in porch, and a lovely deck.
The house is filled with vintage furniture - including a (mostly) working (and stocked) CD jukebox. There are board games, books, and a few records, plus a kitchen stocked with all the things you need to cook a relatively elaborate meal. We have tried to provide anything that guests may need during their stay, but please, let us know if we missed anything.
In terms of beds, there is a king and two queens, all with new mattresses in 2025.
We bought this house in 2025 and plan to continue to improve it, with help from our guests. We thank you for considering our home.
Please note, because of our proximity to the train tracks, there is train noise day and night. We provide earplugs, should you need them, and recommend the smallest bedroom for lighter sleepers.
Also, guests should at least tolerate cats, as there are several friendly ones who like to visit.
Older homes have quirks. At The Railhouse, you may encounter the occasional bug (we’re near the river!) or notice some of the imperfections - and dust - that come with a historic house. We try to describe those things honestly in our listing so you know what to expect before you arrive.
Dogs are allowed with a $35 pet fee.

My daughter and I really enjoyed our time in Hinton and the house was great. We were able to walk through town from the house and explore the New river with a short drive to a public ramp. The weather was amazing with highs in the mid 70's during June with mornings that felt more like fall. The host was pleasant and prompt in communication and we had no issues with our stay, we would absolutely return.

They have porch kitties and a bin of toys for a dog, though we didn't have pets with us. The location is convenient to shops in town but the house also had everything we needed to prepare basic meals, including spices/oils etc. A choice of porches to hang out on was unexpected. The beds were comfortable and plenty of room to move around. Considering it's an older home, the shower intensity was an initial concern, but in the end, it was just fine. The train station is right there, but having lived near a train for many years was not a huge concern. My husband/son didn't wake up once when the train went by at night and I ended up using hearing protection, which they provided, and slept soundly after that. Very attentive host. I recommend highly!

Wonderful house to stay in for 3 nights as we spent the days hiking our way through New River Gorge National Park. The historic downtown section of Hinton was nice to walk through; there are several restaurants and shops we checked out and all of them were great. I should also mention that the house was so clean and well stocked, and my kids loved interacting with the friendly neighborhood cats on the front porch. Thank you to Carmen for providing us a place to make some wonderful memories. Hopefully, one day we will be back.
