The stunning village of Castleton, located at the head of the Hope Valley, offers a gateway to some of the Peak District’s best walking terrain. Rich in history, the village is home to the impressive Norman Peveril Castle Keep, which stands watch over the village. Castleton attracts walkers and outdoor enthusiasts alike, drawn by its scenic paths, the challenge of Winnats Pass, and the opportunity to try caving. Famous for its show caves and the rare Blue John stone, which is only found and mined here, Castleton is a must-visit destination. The village also features a delightful selection of unique gift shops, pubs, tea rooms, and an excellent Visitor Centre, complete with a small museum showcasing life in the Hope Valley. During December, the village is especially popular for its festive Christmas lights and activities.

Nearby, you’ll find the picturesque villages of Edale, home to the start of the Pennine Way, as well as Hope and Hathersage, which boasts a seasonal outdoor swimming pool. You can also enjoy a day out at Alton Towers or visit the magnificent Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall.
