The location, the character/original features and history of the property which had been researched and shared by the owner. I really appreciated tea, coffee and a little bottle of milk being there for my arrival and the property being nice and warm to walk into after travelling through fog and snow. Then being able to light a little fire with the wood provided for the stove. The detailed description of everything you'd need to know about how things work in the property. It made a much needed break so effortless and enjoyable. I would definitely visit again and recommend for anyone wanting to visit the Peak District.
The only thing I wasn't so keen on which isn't anything the owner could change would be the parking outside the property. That's only because I'm not overly confident manoeuvring my fairly big car in tight spaces. I did park in the large tourist information carpark opposite which is available at one point just for convenience. So there are other options if like me parking isn't your strong point!

Liked the garden area
The rug in front of fireplace and the cupboard above the hob that was not attached and kept falling off was dangerous

Location fantastic. Very cosy cottage.
Would have expected there to be soap in bathroom and washing up liquid in kitchen. Shower grout needs a good clean. Not enough logs to keep fire going more than an hour.

Great location, but very touristy. The house was big enough for us three. The place was very clean. The cottage has been done up beautifully and there is a nice terrace in the back adjacent to the brook. The lighting in the cottage was excellent and also outside on the terrace. The bathroom was great, Kitchen tools were plenty. Plenty of pubs and the local pub food was decent. There were more shops than expected.
Number of plates just enough for three. No spices except salt and pepper and no hand basin wash. The bed matrasses need replacement soon as the springs have deteriorated. Banged my head a couple of times at the low door frames but that is part of the charm.

Great central location
Not very clean. Appreciate that old properties are harder, but as previous guests stated cobwebs by sockets, mildew and peeling paint in bathroom

Nice cottage. Good location for pubs and walking. Everything that you need for a short stay.
Compromise for being central and near pubs etc is it can get noisy and busy for parking. It didn't spoil the weekend.

Cosy, comfy, well equipped, good kitchen, wifi, good shower, back area very private with a nice stream running through, had a enjoyable stay
Door headroom low, knocked my head a few times, ok for short people, location a bit crammed, sometimes awkward to park, access in and out is very busy with tourists milling around. Main road is nearby, can be a bit noisy with passing traffic

Convenient location, beautiful secluded courtyard garden. Visiting ducks in the stream.
Low doorways for the taller members of our party 🤣

The location of the cottage was perfect for walking The Peaks. It was well equipped for the odd time I wanted to self-cater. Parking wasn’t an issue as I stayed out of season. I’d definitely stay here again.

Loads of character, lovely old cottage that has been well decorated. The rear courtyard is quiet and has the mill stream running through it - we saw ducks swim past one day. On the bird feeders we also saw lots of smaller birds and squirrels too. The central heating was really efficient, we didn’t need to put the fire on. The village of Castleton is perfect for a break if you don’t want to drive anywhere once you have arrived; there are many caves, shops and pubs you can reach easily. The walking is top notch with the Great Ridge and Mam Tor nearby, the views are spectacular. We went in February and it was nice and quiet, I imagine it gets extremely busy in good weather.
Parking is most likely going to be in the pay & display car park nearby as outside the cottage it is very limited and mostly for locals. Is only £8 for 24 hours in the Peak Visitors Centre car park so not bad. There is a cafe opposite and the kitchens are right outside the front door of the cottage so you can hear everything when you are sat in the front room, and their extraction fan whine is on all day. In the cottage there was no soap provided and neither of the wall clocks worked. Overall these were minor oversights that didn’t really impact our overall enjoyment.

Great location and very pretty spot.
Didn’t feel particularly well loved. A mish mash of crockery and glasses and a bit short on kitchen equipment.
Definitely not enough kindling or logs for one nights fire as promised.
Not really a cottage for 4.

The cottage is in an excellent location in the heart of Castleton. It has a lovely courtyard garden with a beautiful stream running through. The cottage is well kept and has everything you need. We were two couples here for a short cycling holiday and this was perfect.
This wasn’t a real issue for us, but just to be aware, as it is an old cottage, the doorways downstairs are quite low. So if you’re tall, there will be a lot of ducking down.

Nice quirky cottage
Not a large double bed as advertised. I wouldn’t have booked had I known it was a standard double as too narrow and too short.
Cottage let down by housekeeping, cleaning just not up to standard. Messaged property during stay but they didn’t respond.

Nice location , near really lovely places to eat.
Good job partner wasn’t with us as were are 5ft 6 & door came up to our shoulders! (He’s 6ft 9 would not have been able to negotiate tiny door frames!) no forewarning extremely low door way height although foam buffers on mid frame and we managed to dodge & remember to duck all week! Otherwise characterful & quirky little place comfortable & home from home provided.
Main double mattress a bit on the hard /extra firm side , & a single bed left side slats we worked out on bed kept slipping so mattress fell thorough nightly , but luckily a second alternative single bed in same room. Slugs were constantly getting in kitchen & trails up living room sofa /carpets etc so kept vacuuming& mopping up daily!( caught culprit last day!) workmen on next door upset neighbours & the parking map kindly provided went off pist with a nearby cranky neighbour blocking us in, not our fault as workmen & cottage next door used outside parking after first day all week like a workshop space, Polite but inconvenient trying to enter/exit our holiday cottage & some noise if we’d not been leaving & just arriving to that would be upsetting !

Beautifully refurbished and very well equipped. The rear terrance with the stream running through it was particularly delightful.
Everything was great, except the master bed was quite small, but a minor issue.

Clean ,tidy, well decorated, location, courtyard garden with stream, kitchen, Wi-Fi
Parking - options for 3 spaces and a parking pass were advised online, in correspondence and in the cottage manual, but reality is spaces are shared with other holiday let’s and weren’t available and parking pass was removed a year ago. So parked on the street up the road.

Lovely property, excellent location. Didn’t use the cooking facilities due to not being very clean but wasn’t planning to anyway so didn’t really matter. Would have been disappointed if I was planning to use them. Apart from that lovely little cottage and would stay there again.

A small cottage full of character in a great location for the plentiful local pubs and walks from the door.
Many basics were not provided, so best to add these items to your packing: toilet paper (bring your own, especially if you’re arriving after the shops are closed), hand soap, dishwasher tablets, kitchen scissors and tea towels.
Bring some slippers as the underfloor heating in the bathroom is not on first thing in the morning.
Some crockery isn’t the freshest, so give it a clean before use (the cupboard could do with a deep clean).

Centrally located, clean and comfortable, great shower.
Parking and access was always tricky in the day if you took your car out would have to park in the car park pay and display on return, building work going on next door so let’s of scaffolding and vans around the entrance.

Central location. A clean comfortable accomadation . Beds were so comfy. Lovely terraced garden which was a pleasure to sit out in. Underfloor heating which was an added bonus .The owner kept in touch by text to ensure we were happy with everything which was a very nice gesture. We could not fault the property and will certainly rebook in the future.
Nothing it was perfect for us.

About a 2 minute walk to pubs and food. The little courtyard at the back was amazing.
Door heights were very low - notwithstanding warnings banged head several times. Mouldy bread left in bread bin. Toilet had not been flushed. Felt the price was high for the facilities offered. The twin bedded room was really small.

I cannot say enough good things.. it had everything we needed for a weekend away in the Peak District. It was so homely, cosy, so nicely decorated and the beds were beyond comfy! The back yard is a sanctuary. A slice of heaven with the stream and fairy lights. This place will truly hold a special places in our hearts. It has been a home from home. The info booklet is filled with fantastic info about the property and history, something we truly loved!
The fact I couldn’t live in it permanently.

The owner had prewarned us the scaffolding was still up and offered us a £25 discount which we accepted. This has not yet been refunded despite ringing Sykes. Please refund this immediately. Also a carbon monoxide detector was in the bedroom as the boiler was there. Not a problem but it had a very bright flashing monitor which was very annoying overnight.

Location is perfect. Cottage in ideal location to explore and enjoy Castleton and Peak District
Hats off to the owner to try sort out any shortcomings and rapid response but I would definitely change the cleaning company as the cottage didn’t look prepared for guests. Especially kitchen didn’t look properly cleaned. Lock box looked a bit worn as it took some time to open it. This could be an easy fix for perfect cottage.
