About this house rental
Summary:
Our Big Kahuna home is a spacious 3,650-square-foot, five-bedroom, four-bathroom home that can accommodate up to 14 guests. This two-story residence combines a three-bedroom, two-bathroom upstairs unit with a two-bedroom, two-bathroom downstairs unit. Each level has its own private entrance, and guests can move between floors using the interior spiral staircase or the exterior front stairs.
The Space:
We're conveniently located in the heart of the Poipu Beach area. This is a resort area with many restaurants, grocery stores, and shopping located in a 1 mile radius. Poipu Beach is consistently voted as one of the best beaches in the U.S and has sections for snorkeling, boogie boarding, beginner and intermediate surfing.
The pool that is pictured belongs to a resort which is a 2 minute drive or a 10-15 minute walk away. Access may be available for a nominal cost. Please inquire for details.
In addition, we provide parking that is not on the street, high-speed Internet access, beach chairs, beach towels, and coolers, as well as the use of a laundry room that comes stocked with multiple machines, detergent and dryer sheets.
The bedrooms upstairs and downstairs are connected by an internal staircase and each have a separate entrance. The home is fully air conditioned for comfort and privacy.
8 ft sliding glass doors in two directions provide excellent cross ventilation. Granite counters are in both kitchens and all baths.
Upstairs, the master bedroom has a King bed with Egyptian cotton linens, plus a private covered lanai with seating for 2. The master bath has a deep soak tub with two shower heads and double sinks. The 2nd bedroom has a queen sleigh bed with a pillow top mattress. The second bath has a deep soak tub and shower plus double sinks. The third bedroom has twin beds.
Downstairs, the master bedroom has a King bed and a slider to the outside covered lanai. The master bath has a large deep soak tub and double sinks.
In the property are 2 large full kitchens with double door refrigerators, ceramic top stoves with ovens, full sets of pots and pans, dishes, glasses and silverware.

Our family of 10 enjoyed the two units of Big Kahuna. The grounds are quite lush with a variety of tropical plants and flowers. The space in the two units was more than adequate for our family. Location is good. We didn't walk to Poipu Beach because of all of the beach items to take, but we were able to find parking with no problem. There is an ample supply of beach items - plenty of chairs, boogie boards, beach towels, coolers, sand toys and some snorkel gear. I marked down the units on cleanliness because of ants in the downstairs kitchen and master bath upstairs. We did contact the property management and the on-site manager was quickly responsive and they did some spraying, but there were still some issues upstairs. AC units worked well. We liked having the laundry facilities, but we think housekeeping had left their items in the dryers. We finally took things out and set them on the ironing board. There are 3 sets of washers and dryers, but one set needs repair/replacement as the knob on the dryer to control the settings is missing and the door of the washer in that set has hinges very loose. Also had some problems with the 2 coffee pots, but they were replaced after we reported that they weren't brewing properly. We did pay for access to the Athletic Club facilities, but didn't use it as we ran out of time. It's not really a close walk; driving there would be more convenient with swim gear. Would we stay at Big Kahuna again? Quite probably for a large family gathering!

This house is very well-appointed and well-kept with lots of beach gear. The view is great. It is within walking distance of an excellent snorkeling beach. And there are many good restaurants nearby. We would consider returning if and when we return to Hawaii.

Manager was very responsive when we had a problem with one of the air conditioners.
Didn't think the photos of the property were a very accurate representation of the upstairs. Property needs some updating and care: curtains in upstairs were off the rod in places, kitchen faucet came off when in use. Was a little disappointed for the price we paid.
Location was fabulous - you could see the ocean and walk to Poipu beach.
