Carrowcullen is an 1880s stone farmhouse, set on the Wild Atlantic Way in the Ox Mountains amongst 14 acres of unspoiled pastures. It has been assessed by Failte Ireland to meet the Welcome Standard. It offers guests a 'walk-back-in-time' experience while meeting modern comforts. Guests enter the farmhouse through the centre door leading into the kitchen. The parlour and sitting rooms are on either side of the kitchen on the ground floor and both have log burners. On the first floor are a master double bedroom with sink, a twin bedroom with sink, a single room, and a bathroom with cast iron bath and over bath shower on the first floor. On the ground floor the traditional kitchen's modern appliances are hidden as part of the walk-back-in-time experience. The kitchen's facilities are: gas cooker, under-counter fridge with small freezer compartment, small dishwasher, an original oak table with tuck under chairs, a central island (containing the under-counter fridge/freezer) and large butler's sink. Under the stairs and off the kitchen, there is a cloakroom (toliet and sink). The sitting room has a toliet and sink behind a screen to accommodate guests who might find the original steep staircase a challenge. The farmhouse is set well back from a quiet country lane on a private lane which connects to a forestry lane and the country road, offering a quiet short 'loop' stroll. One of the Sligo walking trails is minutes away . The local beaches Dunmoran Strand and Aughris Head are located within a short drive. Local shops offer produce and fuel (Collery's in Beltra and Adabrone in Dromore and on Saturday mornings in season Beltra Market offers fresh vegetables, food, eggs, baked goods and crafts. Our host, Trudy was wonderful and ensured we had everything we needed during our 2 night stay. The home is beautiful!!

Trudy is an extremely attentive host. The home has been restored with care, and her passion for an authentic experience for guests is evident. If you are looking for modern amenities, this farmhouse is not for you. I would not recommend it to anyone with children as the furniture is abundant. Additionally, the stairs are shallow and not easy to navigate if anyone in your party has mobility issues. There is, however, a bedroom downstairs with a commode in the room (behind a screen) should anyone need it. The property feels safe and Trudy stays on site. Go with an open mind and a willingness to adjust to the quirks of the old farmhouse and you will have a memorable stay.

This beautiful farmhouse has been meticulously restored by Trudy with furnishings true to its original era. The land surrounding the farmhouse was absolutely gorgeous, and the property is well located for many tourist activities. Sheep were out wandering on the road, and it is truly idyllic. Thank you, Trudy, for a wonderful stay.

We really enjoyed our time at Trudy’s old Irish farmhouse. This is more than a stay, it’s an experience. We explored the surrounding countryside during the days and enjoyed the unique ambiance and history of the house in the evenings. Trudy was very welcoming and had detailed instructions laid out throughout the house. Would definitely recommend this stay to anyone looking for a unique and authentic Irish country experience.

This was such a wonderful experience to have the opportunity to stay in a beautiful and lovingly restored period home. It truly was like taking a step back in time and like staying in a museum! Trudy was absolutely fantastic and I am so impressed with how she has cared for this home and that she opens it up for others to enjoy this property. My favorite parts were playing the piano by the fire in the living room each night and having our path home blocked by sheep one morning. This is such a special town and a true gem. Thank you, Trudy!

What a beautiful property! Trudy was so wonderful in her instructions to arrive and was very responsive and friendly. We felt at home instantly. Trudy has taken care of every detail from the fully stocked kitchen to fire wood, etc. her eye for detail extends to the beautiful antiques and artwork that fill the home. She even provided a beautiful bottle of wine to celebrate our anniversary trip. She had great suggestions for things to do in the area and there is so much to do! We would recommend this to anyone who loves a quiet cozy country stay.

Lovely period farmhouse. The owner Trudy was very helpful and responded to all requests and issues promptly. Lovely views and walks. Safe for children, but since the house is full of lovely antique furniture it is not ideal for families. Very suitable for those looking for peace and quiet in a very beautiful setting.

The location is absolutely stunning, with mountain views, beautiful country walks, and nearby exploration (we explored Sligo County, beaches, and even up to Slieve League and Donegal).
It is abundantly clear that Trudy has put so much thought and love into restoring this farmhouse. It is a truly unique stay and special if you are comfortable following all the rules that Trudy understandably has to keep the place running smoothly. You should be prepared to treat this property with the love and care that Trudy does. Each room is filled with antique treasures. So much so, that every room is full- the tables, the windowsills, every surface has special items (some very fragile). Even the furniture is antique and special- the original kitchen table, the chairs in the sitting room, etc. Our 5-year-old said at dinner one night how lucky he felt to stay in the house!

This is the real deal. If you're looking to step back a hundred years or so, this is the right place. Trudy has painstakingly restored the look and feel of an elegant Ireland farm home and property, complete w antique fixtures and accessories. Fear not, there's plenty of modern conveniences (microwave, wifi - albeit weak, etc) but that's no fun.

I stayed three nights with my husband and 15 month old. Trudy was very accommodating and did a wonderful job of restoring this farmhouse. It is so idyllic and felt like you stepped into the past, but also cozy and welcoming. Neighboring sheep are near the house and there are a couple of fenced sections of the yard that we were able to let our toddler roam around. She was very responsive to messages and accommodating of our fluxuating arrival and departure times. Would highly recommend to anyone considering staying here!

Beautiful well preserved house. Very nice landlady/ owner, great hospitality. The house expires a authentic athmosphere of the past. Great for music, art and literature with piano and library. Very quiet besides some sheep, interesting walks into the Ox mountains. Mind your head within the house.

Wow!
A museum in itself. So much character in the cottage. It has the most warming atmosphere.
Trudy is a true gem, with many a tale to tell. The work she has done on the cottage is perfect.
Located away from the main road. You here the sheep, the birds and the rustle if the trees.
The early morning mist over the mountains is stunning. With beaches not far and the Irish air it's a place to experience.
All ready booked for the summer.
A huge thank you Trudy.

You will feel like you went back in time at this farmhouse. Trudy is lovingly restoring it, using materials authentic to the time, from the pull chain WC to the farmhouse sink. We can’t wait to come back and see the progress she’s made with the rest of the grounds.
