About this villa rental

This beautiful site of 3 converted traditional stone mill buildings is ideal for groups consisting of couples or families seeking to holiday together but with some privacy between them too!

This option gives renters full privacy and private use of gardens and pool - all included in the price.

A wonderful setting, with views of mountains all across one side, and shielded by private chestnut woodland on the other, this is a real mountain hideaway and a fantastic adventure. The site is framed at the back by part an original aquaduct, and there is also a stream running through, which forms little pools for cooling off in when the water is running well.

All 3 character properties, apart from sharing such a unique setting, have been restored with a great deal of love and care, boasting beamed ceilings, stone flooring, chestnut windows and so forth.

Properties:
There is 'Mulino Grande' which has 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, dining area, and living roomThis house sleeps 8.
Then, on the same site but on the other side of the gardens are 'Piccolo Mulino' and 'Bambini'. These two cottage apartments which are built into the old aquaduct carrying water to the mill are cute options for couples /small families, both with privacy and their own large alfresco dining space too.

Bambini is a one bedroom, 1 shower room property with living/kitchen/diner, sleeping 2 plus 2.
Piccolo Mulino is a studio type apartment with an open plan living/kitchen/diner which has a good quality large double sofa bed. There is a ladder style staircase leading to a mezzanine area with 2 single beds too. Shower room.

The gardens really are the piece di resistance here, with lots of different places to relax in peace or be together!
There is a furnished picnic and BBQ area in the woodland, a wonderful relaxing and dining terrace with amazing views at Bambini, and a terrace and outdoor eating area for all to eat together outside Casa Grande.
There are grassed areas,, large hammock, various BBQ spots, ping pong area and also a covered marquee if you don't fancy eating inside if it rains. The owners have thought of everything.
Of course, there is also the large 12M x 6M private pool (plus roman steps), which is gated for safety, and is surrounded by an ample sunbathing area and quality sunbeds.
The old stone aqueduct, which once brought water to the mill to drive the millstones below, runs behind the site too and the millstones of the old mill still work today and are used to obtain fine chestnut flour and corn flour; you can see the chestnuts being ground, as they were in days gone by.

This really is a unique opportunity to stay on a site where one feels as though time has stood still. Pure relaxation and peace!
The gardens also boasts a large private gated pool, and a sunbathing area equipped with quality sunbeds.
It will be difficult to tear one-selves away!
Treat yourselves!
NB - IMPORTANT If there are just up to 8 guests then you will hire the main house only with the other 2 houses closed off for privacy. If there are 10 guests then you will have the main house and one apartment with the other closed for privacy. So, you always have full privacy but the price quoted changes depending on the number of guests. If you wish to book and use all 3 houses and there are only 8 of you do advise and the price will be amended accordingly.

AREA:
There is loads of space for exploring, walking & relaxing, & there is a feeling of pure peace, with just the sound of the stream gurgling .
Set high in the hills, overlooking countryside, & a mediaeval village below, with the mountains as a backdrop, this really is a heavenly location!
Whilst set in the depths of the countryside, amongst beech woods & chestnut trees, the site is located within walking distance of a good restaurant and basic shop (you need to ring the bell !). Note the restaurant is only open weekends outside of July and August.
There is a selection of good restaurants within a 15 min drive too with more thereafter. The drive to the supermarket/hypermarket is less than half hour in both North and South of the valley.
If you can tear yourselves away from this little piece of paradise some distances for trips out are below:
Pisa - 1 hr 15 mins - visit the famous leaning tower and more besides.
Florence - just under 2 hours - great day out when it is not too hot. Visit the Uffizzi, Ponte Vecchio, Michelangelo's David, meander along the Arno.
Lucca - under an hour . A mediaeval fully walled city, often voted the best city in Italy! Cycle the fully intact walls, relax in the parks, have a cappuccino in many of the large piazzas watching the world go by... The birthplace of Puccini, you can go to an opera recital most evenings, dine in the many restaurants, visit the 99(!) churches, climb the towers or shop til you drop in the shaded mediaeval streets.....
Barga - a beautiful mediaeval town, well known for its arty feel, and its good restaurants. In high season there is often live music in the evenings, and there is an annual jazz festival. Beautiful views abound!
Castelnuovo - local market town 30 mins.
Grotta del Vento - Wind Caves - 45 mins
Parco di Levegliese - country adventure park with torrentismo/canyoning/rock climbing - 45 mins
Spa town of Bagni di lucca - 40 mins
And lots more besides....

Beat the crowd in olde worlde Italy in a medieaval setting, but join the sightseeing when you wish!

Lovely property. Deep in the mountains of Tuscany. No air con needed as very cool in the house. Houses great really big and completely private. All the sounds you hear is running water and the birds. As we had been travelling from early morning it would have been nice if there had been a welcome pack with a few essentials as we were all so tired and the nearest supermarket was 20minutes away. Gabrielle who showed us round the property gave us some home made wine which was very kind and delicious. Also a manual in the house would have been helpful too. Overall we had a lovely time exploring the area and coming across some wildlife such as a porcupine at night alongside lots of fire flies and enjoyed our evening outside although it does get quite cool so do remember to bring a jacket

Great location and great property with amazing view and atmosphere. Went there for a trip with the extended family and having different buildings in the same property was a great add-on. Highly recommended.

What can I say, an incredible villa in a beautiful part of Italy. Our stay was truly phenomenal, the surroundings of the villa are serene & the villa itself provides everything needed. Make sure to go exploring the multiple waterfalls on the property (safely) & visit some of the local restaurants/attractions. The restaurant in Vallico Sopra (open Saturday & Sunday only) is well worth a visit if only for the incredible value for money & hospitality. It’s a locals place, with great pastas & meat courses - although the pizza was distinctly average. The house Red wine was cheap & washed the food down expertly! It’s an easy walk, so everyone can enjoy. The little “DeSpar” shop/deli in Fabbriche di Vergemoli was our absolute favourite & avoids having to go all the way into the valley for food/drink. The €3 locally produced wine, washed down the freshly sliced hams & cheeses formed the majority of our meals - the owner speaks phenomenally good English & has a handsome dog called “King” that is often hanging around the town. We loved our stay, be aware the property is vast & finding it in the dark - even with the very clear directions - requires some bravery! We can’t wait to return.

We had a pleasent stay in this old mountain house. It has a nice garden and pool that allows you to spend your day there. Trips to Lucca, Pisa or hikes up the mountains are nice options for daytrips. The next supermarkets are 25 minutes away since you need to drive down the mountain road so we tried to combine grocery shopping with our trips. Since we were the first guests of the season there were some spiders in the house and in the kitchen and the dishwasher wasn’t working but the owner was very responsive and sent a cleaning team and a technician to solve the issues. We can recommend the house for groups of friends who want to stay outside of a city.

We were with 2 families (4 adults and 3 kids) and were surprised of how large the total accommodation was and also the fact that it is really remote. The quietness is breathtaking. And there are so many different spots where you can sit down and relax. A special thanks to our caretaker Giuliano. He was our go to guy when we needed anything!

Beautiful and comfortable property with a lot of space, perfect as base of operations to explore Tuscany. The pictures do not really make it justice, it's way better. The kids loved the facilities (very big pool, ping pong, river stream, patios, bbq), ideal to spend lazy morning and nights before/after leaving to explore the region or just spend the day if not feeling like going out. Good restaurants around, we recommend Sandra (2km) and Mulino Vecchio (5km); and overall nice surroundings.

We had such a wonderful stay at Borgo i Mulinetti. Travelling with my extended family and we could all get a house of our own. Perfekt! The view over the valley was amazing. The beds were really good and comfy. We enjoyed the pool every day:) Our children loved to watch all the small lizards running around! Sure, it was a bit of a ride up to the house, but it was so worth it! We did our shopping in at the big supermarket 30 min away. There's a small path in the woods to a nearby village. Or you can drive. We found a small shop, just knocked on the door and an elderly woman came to open for us. We also bought our breakfast eggs from the local farmer :) It was truly a wonderful vaccation. First we had alot of things planned but in the end we rarely leaved the property. Beacuse we loved it so much!! Really quiet and good for the soul. And for the legs, haha! Running up and down from the pool to the house on the top was a bit of a workout:)
