About this apartment rental

Dragonfly Cottage is a charming cottage in one of Long Melford’s best locations, tucked away next to the wonderful Grade I listed Church at the top of the beautiful village green. This holiday home caters for up to 4 guests with two double bedrooms and a large shower room. A cosy sitting room contains an open fire and there is a well-appointed kitchen/dining room. There is ample parking close by and a private west-facing rear garden.

Dragonfly Cottage is a beautifully presented, charming period property thought to date back to the 1400s. The property is situated in the most idyllic spot, nestled between the Grade I listed Holy Trinity Church and the stunning Trinity Hospital (now almshouses). The property is just a short walk from some of the village’s best pubs and restaurants as well as superb countryside walks both throughout the grounds of the renowned Kentwell Hall and surrounding footpaths.

The property has been lovingly cared for and has been presented to a high standard while remaining sympathetic to the cottage’s heritage. Numerous original features can still be seen including exposed timbers and a cosy open fireplace. The property contains a sitting room with a bay window looking into Church Walk itself and plenty of seating together with a smart TV for a quiet night in. The kitchen contains a dining table and chairs and a range of appliances including a fridge, Stove cooker and gas hob, integrated dishwasher and washer/dryer. Upstairs, accommodation is arranged over two further floors with the master bedroom overlooking the old hospital gardens and a spacious shower room on the first floor and a further double room on the second floor.

Outside, the property benefits from a fully private garden. There is parking available approximately 10m from the property in a free village car park situated at the top of the green itself.

Long Melford itself is home to a wonderful variety of independent shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs with the Black Lion Hotel serving excellent food and drink less than 1 minute's walk away! Long Melford has long been a shopping destination for antiques and artwork with a number of galleries and shops still showcasing a fantastic collection of items. In addition to its amenities, Long Melford is nestled within beautiful countryside with plenty of footpaths out through farmland and land belonging to two stately homes, Kentwell Hall and Melford Hall – both of which periodically open to the public and are well worth a visit.

Within easy reach are a number of other historic villages including Lavenham, one of the best preserved medieval wool towns in England, Clare which is the smallest town in Suffolk and the nearby Cathedral town of Bury St Edmunds. Sudbury is a thriving market town just a 5-10 minute drive away with plenty of shops, visitor attractions and restaurants and train line links into London and beyond.

Dragonfly Cottage is a delightful retreat in a fantastic location ready to help you explore everything this beautiful village and area has to offer.

Although the property looked ok in the photos the maintenance of white goods was poor, the washing machine door had lost one hinge, hung loose, and the fridge door didn’t close properly, more worryingly the front door was at times impossible to enter from the outside. It got swollen and stuck and the lock was unreliable. I contacted the agent and after several days the odd job man repaired the white goods, I left despite having a week or so to go, the key lock problem had not been fixed after 1 week. In many ways it was not suitable for dogs, pale carpeting and furniture - house rules for dogs were very strict unless you had a dog trained to police dog standards. Fair enough no dogs allowed upstairs but fit a stair gate so it is a rule possible to follow. I had to find a tray large enough to prevent my dog going upstairs. So, it wasn’t a pleasant experience.

It was not a place to relax. House smells of woodsmoke from chimney, worsend on upper floors.Lounge furniture shabby, kitchen unit doors were broken. Washing machine smelt of stagnant water - didn’t use. WiFi information given was incorrect.Photographs online out of date. Property is up for sale.

We stayed at the cottage for the weekend. The property was really welcoming and spotlessly clean. Well equipped kitchen. Probably the most comfortable bed I have slept in with good quality bedding. A real joy to spend time here. Although we stayed at the beginning of October there is a lovely summerhouse and a nice garden area. The village is lovely with the church literally right on the doorstep.

Dragonfly Cottage was booked days before our arrival. There for a family gathering having lived in Long Melford for a few years previously The cottage was warm, welcoming and beautifully equipped, set with with the stunning backdrop of Long Melford church and a stones throw from a great gastro pub.
