The Old Schoolhouse - Castle View

Emplacement magnifique, le logement est vraiment très beau et très propre.

Check-in was easy and the parking out the front of the building is ideal. The flat felt spacious and clean, and a great place to come back to after a day sightseeing. Location was great, and no more than a few minutes walk into the centre of Donegal - great views of the castle and river from all the windows too. A few of the small touches went a long way: basics for cooking in the kitchen, a few board games, a netflix log-in and local takeout menus were helpful.

The lock on the front door could be quite tricky to open. At one point we thought we weren't going to be able to get back into the flat, but it turns out the knack is using quite a lot of force. Spotted another guest struggling with the lock one morning too, so not just us thankfully. The water pressure was also a little temperamental - on our final morning the shower took a few minutes to get up to power which was unusual.

The apartment itself is beautiful, comfortable and modern. It’s in a great location, very accessible to the town centre on foot. The building has been renovated to a high standard. There is a parking spot, which is very handy.

I hate leaving negativity especially as the apartment itself was very lovely. Sadly, the apartment had not been cleaned. The bathroom was filthy and someone had left a deposit floating in the toilet. The kitchen cupboards were covered in sticky jam hand marks and the surfaces were dusty. There were no clean towels. This was all very odd as the bed had been made. I contacted the host immediately. She seemed friendly and willing to sort things out. She couldn’t organise a clean until our final day - which was quite pointless (I used cleaning products under the sink and cleaned the apartment myself). She did offer an additional day’s stay but as our ferry and further accommodation were already booked this was not an option. She dropped a bottle of wine, bag of crisps and a bar of chocolate outside as an apology. However, I had paid a steep cleaning fee and the apartment had not been cleaned. I asked for this to be refunded, which the host agreed to. I had to keep reminding her to do so, which was very annoying. She finally refunded on our last night. It spoilt what could have been a perfect stay.
