Matsuya hotel

Property was freshly renovated and had modern facilities making my stay comfortable and refreshing. All rooms have private bathrooms. Location was perfect. The free shuttle service to surrounding ski lifts and train station was a huge advantage. The owners and staff were excellent and incredibly generous, ensuring you felt welcome. Be sure to try some of their very own Sake after a day on the slopes.

Nothing to dislike. Price may be a deterrent for some, but you get what you pay for here.

The hotel was newly renovated, everything was clean and in good order; the bed comfortable and the bathroom was excellent. The on-site (seasonal) staff made huge efforts to be helpful and were most welcoming.

There was no 'front desk' manager on site making communication difficult at times for staff and guests alike. We were required to pre-book all requirements by text when a face to face experience might have been more appropriate. We were informed at our first breakfast than only Japanese style breakfasts were possible, despite a predominately Western clientele. After protesting this was relaxed, however the offering was identical every morning for our stay. For an 'in-snow' resort hotel, drying facilities were inadequate. Unfortunately the lift was out of order making luggage transfer difficult. Only non-supportive feather pillows were provided.

Great location, useful assuring with transfers when available. Helen is friendly and efficient in addressing issues.

An icy entrance to the hotel, often made challenging by a car parked in the way. No reception and no where to sit to remove shoes- a basic necessity. No where to sit in your room other than your bed. suitcases in a family room is a squeeze, opening them takes all available floor space. Heating turned off early in drying room means you’re putting on cold gear. Slippery Onsen floor adjacent to bath entry, hair clogged drain for the duration of the dry - indicating this space is not cleaned. More black debri floating in this onsen than any others visited.
